Watermarks The newsletter of the Central Minnesota Watercolorists July 2014 Message from the President
January 2014 CMW July President’s Message Summer greetings! Yes, summer is bounding along with so much to offer our senses: rain, wind, sun, lush landscapes( slush landscapes??) ….and well, serendipity !! Much like the arts scene in the St Cloud and Central Minnesota region we are offered a bit of this and that to share at will and seek to inspire. So, shake the mud from your waders and check out the events! Melissa Gohman asked CMW to rally at short notice and bring in paintings to exhibit in studio C for the June 13 Art Crawl. Your response was grand! She sent this: “Thank you; your members came through in a huge way for us -‐ many thanks!” Our CentraCare Woodlands Health Care Plaza continues until July 15th. Takedown is July 15, 2014 from 4-‐5:30 pm. Natilie Ratha, Director of Visual Arts MN has expresses her thanks to CMW. Two artists sold paintings. Kathy Braud has a show at Great River Arts in Little Falls; Sandra Driscoll has had an exhibit at the Whitney Senior Center. We had a successful Paint In at the Paramount Studio B June 10 and look forward to another successful get together July 8th 5:30 to 8pm. People are sharing and readying for the July 17 “Art in the Garden” event at Clemens-‐Munsinger Gardens. Kerry Kupferschmidt is doing a great job coordinating this. He’s ready for your participation as an exhibitor and/or assistant. Only 7 folks have signed up so far. I urge you to contact Kerry at 612-‐986-‐5396 or [email protected] . We (CMW) will sponsor another paint in at the Paramount August 12 5:30to 8pm. As you are probably working on new watercolors to show at the “Sizzlin’ Summer Art Crawl” August 22 at the Falcon Bank, come out to work and share with your colleagues. Remember to connect with Bonnie Schwichtenberg, CMW coordinator, to register and get the skinny.

Good-‐bye to Shelly Leitheiser! She asked me to express her thanks to the membership for her farewell gift, the CMW experience, the friendships and associations made in her years as a member. She said she would miss us and will keep in touch. She will continue to mentor Mary Buhl virtually as needed. Thank you Shelly!!

COLORFUL PAINTING TIPS Sharon Nieters has Arches 140# cold press sheets for members to purchase at a very reasonable price. Contact her at [email protected]. Bonnie Schwichtenberg has large clear bags that hold either a matted ½ sheet or backed full sheet for members. She is ordering bags for 16 x 20” pieces and 11 x 14” also. Reach her at [email protected]. If you need other sizes contact her now so she can order them. Here’s a little more about the popular pigment PV19. It is formulated in two groups. One is the red hue that leans towards blue and the other is a violet hue that leans towards red. Some of the rose/reds are: WM-‐ Perm Rose., DaVinci-‐Quinacridone Red Rose Deep, Daniel Smith-‐Quinacridone Rose and Quin. Red, American Journey-‐Perm Rose Quin. and Rambling Rose Quin., MaimeriBlu Rose Lake, Holbein-‐Quin. Red, Sennelier-‐Rose Madder Lake, and finally Blick Artist-‐Quin. Rose, and Quin. Red. So there are many names for similar hues depending on the maker. When there are two choices above , the second one is the more red and the first is the more rose.
CMW NEEDS YOUR HELP – AND WE AREN’T KIDDING. 1. REFRESHMENT for October: This person or two gets the treats for one meeting. Carole Euerle will let you know if any napkins, plates, etc, need to be purchased. You will be reinbursed for all you buy. 2. Art in the Garden, July 17, 2015 at Clemmens/Munsinger Gardens. Contact Kerry Kupferschmidt at [email protected] to get a job if you will be displaying that day. All exhibiting must help. 3. AUG. 22 SUPER ART CRAWL: We need two ONE MORE volunteer NOT exhibiting at the Super Art Crawl on Aug. 22, 2014 to monitor the rooms from 1-‐4 pm. You could then go around yourselves at 4p. Your job is to relieve the artist so they could get around to the other exhibits before the rush starts and make their day a little shorter also. You would also make a sale for them if the chance arose. Naomi Dietiker will work with you.
