Sunday Morning Sermon Series on the book of Hebrews

Consider Your Ways, Take Courage and Work. For I Am With You, Declares the LORD.

Through the prophet Haggai, the LORD of Hosts spoke to His faithful, but fearful people; people who had already overcome much, and had responded willingly to the challenge to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the Temple and their community. But, they had become complacent about the things of God and comfortable with their day to day rouDne. The Lord’s work of rebuilding a community centered on worship and His presence had stalled. Complacency and comfort had replaced the awareness of His presence and aGendance to His mission.

It is easy for us to find ourselves in the same condiDon. The work of maintaining our comfortable lifestyle pushes aside the work that the LORD would have us accomplish. Each of us is called to take part in the LORD’s community building enterprise. He has given us a mission to “make disciples.” Each of us has been given certain abiliDes and opportuniDes to do our part in that mission. “Consider your ways:” What can you do? “Take courage:” Faith overcomes fear. “Work:” Get on with the task, and remember, He is with you. “Go, and make disciples… and lo, I am with you always,” declares the Lord Jesus. Dr. Gary Redding

Wednesday Night Bible Study

Join Pastor Jeff in the Sanctuary @ 6:30pm as we study through the book of Philippians.

The Lord led me to preach through Hebrews 11 on Sunday mornings over the next month. If you’ve never read it, take some Dme to do so. If you have read Hebrews 11, you’ll know that it is righUully called the "Hall of Faith." In it, we find the stories of biblical heroes from the Old Testament like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Moses, & Rahab.

As you read through those names and learn of their unbelievable obedience, you might think, “I could never do what they did.” Verses 33-38 tell us that "through faith [they] conquered kingdoms, enforced jusDce, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. Women received back their dead by resurrecDon. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a beGer life. Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, desDtute, afflicted, mistreated—of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.” Wow! What amazing deeds!

You might think there is no way God could be impressed with your life or accomplishments. However, remember that these individuals did not receive their reward in Heaven because of their deeds, but because of their faith! Verse 2 reads: "For by [faith] the people of old received their commendaDon.” They did not earn their reward through mighty works, but through faith in our Mighty God! And as a result of their faith, God did those mighty works through them.

I pray you and I will grow in our faith as we study the faith of these heroes over the next month!

Blessings! Bro. Jeff
