Parish Mission Statement The Catholic community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, united in the love of God, comes together to worship the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, to provide for the spiritual growth of each member, to minister to one another’s needs, to be servants and neighbors to all, to strengthen and share faith, to experience the richness of Jesus Christ. The Catholic community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, aware of its call to be the good news, accomplishes its mission through worship, education, service and personal example.

Seminarian, Brendan Foley, To Serve At St. EAS For A Year On Labor Day, Brendan Foley will move into the rectory and spend a year living and working at the parish as part of his preparation for priesthood. Brendan is a native of Binghamton and graduate of the University of Scranton. After college, he volunteered for a year (serving refugees in Syracuse, among other things) before entering St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, where he has been studying Philosophy and Theology. This summer he is serving as a hospital chaplain intern at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. He will take a break from formal course work for an internship, called a “pastoral year.” You will have the chance to learn much more about him when he arrives. Let’s keep Brendan in our prayers in advance of his arrival this Fall.

Anna Asks" How long does it take to become a priest? As you can see from Brendan Foley’s story (see above), it is quite a journey to the priesthood. When someone is accepted as a prospect for the priesthood in the Diocese, he has to undergo a lot of studies, prayer, and training. A candidate must complete a college degree and an advanced degree, so the process can take up to nine years. If he already has finished college, he moves right into graduate studies and the process can be shortened depending on undergraduate courses. During these years, the seminarian will take a break from the classroom to spend a pastoral year at a parish in the Diocese and then return to the seminary for the final two years of preparation, when he will be ordained a transitional deacon and finally, a priest. For more information on the process, visit www.vocations- syracuse.org.

The Annual Men In Black Softball Game will be held Sunday, July 29 at Shove Park in Camillus. Father O’Connor along with Brendan Foley will be teaming up with the priests and seminarians of the Diocese to challenge the team from Holy Family. The game begins at 5:30pm at the ball field closest to Whedon Road (down the street from Holy Family Church in Fairmount). Hope to see you there during the special Year of the Family in the Diocese of Syracuse!

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton is on Social Media Well, the parish is anyways. Internet wasn’t quite invented during her time, but her letters show that she would have been excellent on Facebook and Twitter. Please follow our Social Media links (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) through the parish website. They are found on the bottom footer of the website.

Hope Appeal Goal Achieved Congratulations!!! We have reached the Goal for the Annual Hope Appeal. This is record

time much faster than the pace Fr. O’Connor set running the parish highways and byways. Again, this is a great accomplishmentfor our parish family. It really is a great witness that we give to God from our first fruits. Remember that the parish will receive back half of any funds donated above the goal. We will be sure to use those gifts to further the evangelization efforts of the parish. Sharing the Good News is a task that we never rest from!

Fruit of the Hope Appeal – McDevitt Grants By achieving the Hope Appeal goal set for us, our parish is given the opportunity to apply for McDevitt grants that support our good works. This year, we have reaped many benefits. The Totus Tuus program was brought to the parish at no cost – a value of $5,000. We also received $5,000 in funding to further our social media presence. The Food Pantry also received over $4,500. These gifts are funded through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Robert McDevitt, who valued their Catholic Faith and created this program upon their passing as a lasting legacy of love for the Catholic Faith. Please keep them in your prayers.

Thanks for a great week with Totus Tuus Things were hopping everyday here at the parish last week thanks to the Totus Tuus Vacation Bible School. This couldn’t have happened without the generous contributions of the team of missionaries, the families who hosted them in their homes and volunteers who cooked them meals. Thanks, as well, to everyone who joined in the Parish Pot Luck supper. This was a huge success for our Faith Formation Team. Please keep them in your prayers and encourage the youth to get involved with upcoming programs.

Vocation Reflection In today’s first reading, the Prophet Amos speaks of how he was called by the Lord to go and prophesy and proclaim God’s message to Israel. Could it be possible that you are called, like Amos, to proclaim God’s prophetic message to others as a priest or religious? If you feel this call, call the Vocations office at 315-470-1468.
