Last week I wrote about celebrities who think they’re too smart for God. What some of them said reminds me of these words from 1 Corinthians 1:25: “the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” What other ones said reminds me of these words: “What is man that you are mindful of him…? For you have made him a little lower than the angels…” (Psalm 8:4-5). But these people said they believe they don’t need God, since for them He doesn’t exist. They don’t see their proper place in the world, but see themselves as their own gods.
But do any actors or actresses, athletes, or musicians believe in God? Of course! Here are some details about these famous believers. First of all, Mr. T is a Christian. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005 he gave away all his gold, stating, “As a Christian, when I saw other people lose their lives and their land and their property…I felt that it would be a sin before God for me to continue wearing (it).”
Second, Jane Fonda is a Christian. She turned to God when she was in her sixties. She said Christianity helped her get her life back after struggling with an eating disorder.
Third, Alice Cooper is a Christian. He grew up in a Mormon household with a lay preacher father. He turned against the church but later became a born-again Christian after his battle with drugs and alcohol. He says being a Christian is a “rebellion.”
Fourth, Al Green is a Christian. After being born again, he later went on to completely renounce pop stardom. He says he now has a “little ministry of love and happiness” given to him by “the Big Man upstairs.”
Here are some other believers: Chuck Norris, Bob Dylan, George Foreman, MC Hammer, Darryl Strawberry, and Sherri Shepherd. A new Christian is Angus T. Jones. He now says not to watch “Two and a Half Men” because it is “filth.”
More next week.(Donna Crowe is a minister’s wife.)

Community newsPeachtree
By BARBARA HARDISON
Despite the sweltering heat, Peachtree Folks gathered for worship on Sunday morning. Jerry Hobgood, Deacon Chair-man, led the opening service.
Pastor Whitehouse, though still in recovery from his knee surgery, brought the morning message. It was titled “Lead Me Not into Temptation.” It was based on Matthew 6:13.
Beverly Wilson talked to the children about Bible School which will be held next Sat-urday morning, July 30, at the church. It will begin at 9 a.m.
and conclude at 2 p.m. Bible stories from the VBS “Weird Series” will be used. Lunch will be served and outdoor water ac-tivities will be held in a shaded area. All children are invited.
Ray Eason reported that the men had a fine time on Thursday evening when they met for their monthly ministry meeting. They had a good meal and the devo-tion led by Doug Hayes was inspiring. The fellowship was outstanding.
On Saturday afternoon the wedding ceremony for Tabitha Whitley and Scottie Edwards was held in the Peachtree sanc-tuary. The beautiful service was attended by many family mem-
bers and friends. A reception followed the ceremony at The Peachtree Hills Country Club.
Dianne Tucker and her sister, Linda Harrison, recently spent their annual vacation at Atlantic Beach. Dianne’s daughter, Ka-tie, joined them for a few days of rest and relaxation.
Melba Hobgood and her golf-ing friends made their annual trip this week to the mountains for some golfing time. Hope the
mountain air was cooler than it was around here.
Visiting with Barbara Hardi-son for a few days last week was her niece, Billie Howell, of Portsmouth, Va. They enjoyed reminiscing about family and worked on tracing family his-tory with the help of Barbara’s daughter, Beverly, and Ances-try.Com.
Catherine Gupton reported that the Peachtree folks had a
busy time at Faith Christian Ministry on Friday. This is a worthwhile project and thanks to all who give of their time to it.
Robert Flood has been moved from Universal Care Center to South Village in Rocky Mount.
David Griffin returned home on Wednesday from his recent visit to Duke.
Ricky Tucker is recovering well from his ear surgery and is
back at work. Bob Bunn is better from his back pain.
Pat Ezell is facing probable additional surgery.
Patsy Baines is anticipating another week of chemo, but will be at home when she has it.
C.G. Frazier is still at Rocky Mount Rehab.
Pastor Whitehouse is still in recovery from his knee surgery.
Happy birthday to Bill Nel-son on July 28!
