July Newsletter for Division 7 Key Club of the New York District
Citation preview
Volume I, Issue 3 July 31st 2012 Lieutenant Governor Jason Roman
Hello there Division 7! I hope all of you are
enjoying this beautiful and brutally hot
summer. Take this time to relax, enjoy
yourself, and catch up on sleep. However I ask
all of you to remember to continue serving your
home, school, and community during this last
month of summer. As Key Clubbers we work
all year round and take pride in the work we
do. Doing a fun service project or fundraiser
over the summer can give you that boost that
will help you be more prepared for the school
year. Also take this time to meet up with your
clubs to hang out and bond more as a club.
Use this time also to get prepared for recruiting
season in September so that we can see an
increase in membership. Lastly take this time
to get together with your officers and start
planning for the year. Now is the time to start
thinking about what projects you want to do
and when you want to do them. Coming into
the year prepared is the greatest way to have
success. Thank you all for your continued
service so far during this service year and I
look forward to working with you during this
upcoming school year!

Hello New York District Key Clubbers,
This is Governor Daniel Ivan Lin and I hope you are all having an amazing summer. Just a few weeks ago, I had the honor of representing the New York
District with more than fifty other Key Clubbers at this year’s International Convention. The experience was nothing short of great as we celebrated the merits of our organization and all that we have accomplished in a service year.
With the election of our new international board, I would like to congratulate Jack Vielhauer in his election as international trustee. If you haven’t done so already,
please subscribe to the district mailing list. You can do so through the district website. There’s more to come.
Yours in the Spirit of Service,
District Governor Daniel Ivan Lin [email protected]
Hey New York District Key Club, The New York District has just come back from having a great and memorable time in Orlando, Florida for the 2012 International Convention. It was not only a memorable experience, but also an acknowledging experience as I brought back so many wonderful ideas to share with all of you. I will soon be releasing a video on the ICON experience within next month.
With that said, I have a few reminders for everyone, especially club secretaries. All election report forms are due on August 5th, 2012. Please speak to your Lieutenant Governor about this or contact me. Also, all monthly report forms are due the
seventh of each month. Please do not forget to submit those; Key Club does continue during the summer. I have recently released a newsletter for secretaries, welcomed to be read by all Key Clubbers. It is called “The Secretarial Periodical” Please refer to this link: http://tinyurl.com/c2bhmbm. Secretaries should be on a lookout to be invited to a Google email group based on their election report form so if you don’t want to miss this out, don’t forget to submit them. Don’t forget to be on the lookout for new minutes and videos! Hope you are all having a wonderful summer.
Yours in the spirit of purity and service, Amber Lee

Hello New York District Key Clubbers,
I am your District Editor Holy Cheong and I am thrilled to say this summer has hit off to a good start! Although I
would like to be bombarded with emails of service spotlights and articles I am glad to say I received several for
the summer issue of The Empire Key. Be prepared fellow Key Clubbers! This newsletter may knock you off your socks.
Keep in mind that service spotlights are very important. They give key clubbers the chance to tell everyone what
they have done to help their community and we want to acknowledge and thank them for their hard work. With
that said, please send me service spotlights! Not only will they be published in the newsletter but they will also
be posted on the District website.
Yours in the Spirit of Service,
District Bulletin Editor Holy Cheong [email protected]

ICON this year was in Orlando Florida from July 4th-7th. I was lucky enough to
attend and was able to learn so much that will help me become a better Lieutenant
Governor. After the District Tour where I was able to bond with different people from all
of the New York District, the fun at the convention starts. I got to go to workshops on
things like Herhsey’s Track and Field Games, The Eliminate Project, and one on how to be
a better LTG. I was also able to attend caucuses to listen to candidates for the offices of
International President, International Vice President, and International Trustee and voted
to see who would be on the final ballot. Later in the House of Delegates I was able to vote
for who would be elected for these positions. Also in House of Delegates, I got to debate
on and vote for different amendments that would be applied to the International Bylaws.
ICON was truly a memorable experience for me. I really loved meeting Key
Clubbers from all over the world. I made friends that I still talk to and learned so much
about Key Club in the process. I learned that Key Club was not a faceless organization as
I was able to meet and take pictures with the Key Club International President and Vice
President and talk to the new President and Vice President on a not business level. I met
people from all over America and even people from Jamaica and Canada. The best part is
that all the Key Clubbers there was passionate about Key Club and we all shared that
passion. I encourage all of you to try your best to attend Key Club International
Convention next year in Washington D.C.

On Saturday, July 21st, Division 7's K Family gathered in Hewlett's Grant Park for a
picnic. Admission was two dollars, and all of the proceeds went to Camp K. From Division 7's
Key Clubs, we saw attendance from Oceanside, Baldwin, and Long Beach. Many of our Key
Clubs' past members also attended the picnic, some of them now members in their relative
colleges' Circle K's, the college-level Kiwanis Family club. Also, Many Kiwanis representatives
came to the picnic. They provided us with a lot of wonderful food, that they brought as well as
grilled. The Oceanside Key Club had the ingenious idea to bring water-balloons. We all had a
fun time soaking our Lieutenant-Governor Jason Roman with water balloons, and then pouring
a whole bucket of water onto him. After the water balloon fun, we played multiple games,
from Ninja to Wa. It was a great time, and all of us enjoyed attending this wonderful event.
On July 28th from 10am to 2pm the Oceanside Key club held a car wash in our high school
parking lot. It was a huge success. We had several members come out to help which was great
to see. Many residents from all over Oceanside came to support us, along with several others
from different towns all over. It was great to see our friends and family come out and support
us, it means a lot. Many members from our Kiwanis also come out to not only help us run the
car wash but to also become one of the many to get their car washed. It was an event that was
a major success even though the weather wasn't great for a car wash.
