SardisYouth July 2014 @ Graduation Sunday Interim Youth Leaders’ “Thank You Sunday” A Note From Adrian Congratulations to our high school graduates! We celebrated this occasion on Sunday, June 1, with a brunch in the Sardis House and a recognition blanket ceremony at the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Thank you to the Youth Ministry for hosting and coordinating the brunch, and to the junior class parents for volunteering to set-up, serve, and clean-up. Interim Youth Leaders, Missy Banks, Dean and Mike Bowen, and Jeff Weston, were thanked for their service and enjoyed fellowship at a reception on Sunday, June 8. Thank you to Jane Fobel, Youth Ministry, and Personnel Ministry for organizing this special day of recognition. Dean and Jeff will continue to work part-time with the high school and middle school ministries. I am glad to be here at last, enjoying the Charlotte summer with you. I am excited to begin my ministry at Sardis Presbyterian and looking forward to getting to know each of you. I love working side by side with Jeff Weston and Dean Bowen and the many dedicated youth advisors, youth Sunday School teachers and Confirmation leaders. As I settle in, I encourage all youth to participate in the upcoming activities to get to know me better. I would also like to spend time with each family getting to know you and your ministry needs. Feel free to contact me in the church office 704.366.1854 or on my cell 704.778.6432 to set a time to get together. Again, I am excited to be here and begin working with the wonderful youth and their families of Sardis Presbyterian Church! ~Adrian Martin, Director of Youth Ministries~ Sardis Vacation Bible School needs your help! Rising 9th Graders’ Day on the Lake

From their blog: “Day 2 was awesome, but quite hot. We had the late shift for dining so the youth got to get some extra sleep. After breakfast, we went to the morning program where Duffy Robbins provided us with a great message. Duffy’s message was followed up with some small group discussion. Afternoon was recreation time. We played fun games filled with colored powder, water balloons and just plain water. After some free time, we enjoyed the evening program with another inspirational story by our speaker Matt (the speakers have been awesome). We had a great discussion during family time. We finished the day with some team volleyball and ice cream. Everybody is still healthy, no injuries, somewhat rested and now on to day 3.”

High School Youth in Belize

From their blog: “There is a family of ten siblings, six boys and four girls, who arrived at the home roughly a week prior to our arrival. The first couple of days that we were here the brothers had been an inseparable pack, and mostly in tears. You could tell that the little boys were terrified, especially adding the fact that a huge pack of even more unknown people had just arrived. One of the really young boys, Randi, seemed to burst into a sea of tears whenever we tried to approach him to comfort him, it was then agreed to let him have his space and come to us on his own terms. This morning, we were summoned to help with Bible School instead of working in the field to build a fence. Our Bible School lesson was abruptly interrupted when a ban of doctors arrived to give check ups to the little ones. The two of us got a workout by standing in a 100 degree hallway carrying sleeping toddlers for thirty minutes. Both us and the kids had clothes dripping with the sweat. We were finally blessed with the hand of young Randi as he opened up to us and wanted comfort in his first doctors appointment. He later played tickle monster with Katie and proceeded to fall asleep in her lap during evening devotion.” ~Katie and Kelsey ~
