GRACE AND ETERNAL LIFE Moses is a man after our own hearts, for haven’t we all dealt with more than our share of stiff-necked peo-ple? Indeed, haven’t we all gotten a little stiff-necked ourselves at times? Complaining . . . impatient . . . quick to anger. How lucky for Moses—how lucky for all of us—that God is exactly the opposite! And we don’t even have to guess about it. The Lord tells us so directly. Accordingly, Moses does what we all need to do. Even with the tablets in hand, he bows down and asks for God’s forgiveness and grace. Encouraging us to live together in peace—and in God’s favor—the Apostle Paul knows all about this grace, joyfully invoking Christ’s grace on us along with God’s love and the Holy Spirit’s. “Rejoice,” he says. And when it comes to rejoicing, John offers us the gladdest words of all: the assurance of eternal life through Jesus. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

*+*+*+* GRACIA Y VIDA ETERNA

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

ST. BARBARA’S PARISH NEWS

SAINT BERNADETTE SOUBIROUS (1844-1879)

April 16

With Immaculate Mary’s “Ave Maria” for its refrain, Andy Williams’ “Village of

Saint Bernadette” peaked at #7 on Billboard’s Top 40 at Christmas 1959, airing on

radio stations all over Amer-ica. Imagine! April 16 marks

the feast of Bernardette Soubirous, the teenager

who, combing a refuse heap for firewood, saw a

“beautiful lady” who identi-fied herself in words Berna-dette faithfully reported to the bishop, though she did not understand their mean-ing: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Relentlessly

interrogated, she never wa-vered in her story or sweet-ness. Chronically ill all her life and dead at thirty-five, Bernadette left behind the shrine at Lourdes where

healing waters still flow from the spring that her “beautiful

lady” pointed out to her. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

QUÀ TẶNG:

NGƯỜI CON MỘT

“Thiên Chúa yêu thế

gian đến nỗi đã ban

Con Một, để ai tin vào

Con của Người thì khỏi

phải chết, nhưng được

sống muôn đời.”

(Ga 3,16)

Suy niệm: Những người

yêu nhau thường tặng

nhau những món quà.

Quà tặng có thể là những

món đồ vật chất; nhưng

hơn nữa, đó có thể là

những lời nói yêu

thương, là thời gian

người ta dành cho nhau,

để thăm viếng nhau, để ở

bên nhau, là tất cả những

gì người ta có thể nghĩ ra

để trao cho nhau, để cho

người mình yêu thấy

được tấm lòng chân tình,

quý trọng, luyến nhớ và

nhất là thấy được tình

yêu của mình dành cho

người mình yêu thương.

Thiên Chúa là chính

Tình Yêu. Ngài yêu

thương nhân loại đến nỗi

ban cho chúng ta Người

Con Một của Ngài. Hơn

thế nữa, không chỉ đơn

thuần là một món quà;
