“This is what sin does. The effect, or consequence, of sin is that sin separates us from God, makes us unfit for

heaven, brings us temporal death, threatens us with eternal death, and makes us slaves to the devil.”

Hoy, celebramos el Décimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario. En las lecturas de las Escrituras de hoy, escuchamos sobre el efecto del pecado en la obra de creación de Dios y la solución de Dios a este problema. De la primera lectura en el libro de Génesis,leemos que sucede después de la caída de Adán y Eva. Leemos, "después de que el hombre, Adán, había comido del árbol, el Señor Dios llamó al hombre y le preguntó:" ¿Dónde estás? " Dios los está buscando, pero se están escondiendo. Enseñando en este pasaje de las Escrituras, San Ambrosio escribe, "para que encuentres a Adán ocultándose, cuando sabía que Dios estaba presente, y deseoso de ser escondido cuando Dios lo llamaba con esa voz que hirió el alma del que se estaba escondiendo: Adam, ¿dónde estás? Es decir, ¿por qué te escondes? ¿Por qué estás oculto? ¿Por qué lo evitas, a quien alguna vez anheló ver? Una conciencia culpable es tan pesada que se castiga a sí misma sin un juez, y desea cubrirse, y sin embargo está desnuda ante Dios ".

En el Evangelio de hoy, escuchamos la solución de Dios a este problema del pecado. Escuchamos cómo las personas piensan que Jesús mismo está poseído por un espíritu maligno. Jesús deja muy claro que Él expulsa demonios porque Él no es uno de ellos. Más bien, Jesús puede expulsar a los demonios porque Él está fuera de su influencia, poder y reino. Jesús es Dios, y mediante el poder del Espíritu Santo, expulsa demonios y repara la separación causada por el pecado. El hombre fuerte del que Jesús habla es el diablo. El diablo ha mantenido a la humanidad bajo su control desde la caída de Adán y Eva. El demonio no tiene nada de qué preocuparse hasta ahora porque ha sido el hombre fuerte capaz de defender su premio y el reino de la naturaleza humana corrompida. Sin embargo, Jesús es más fuerte, y ha venido para atacar al diablo y recuperar de él lo que ha tomado. En Jesús, Dios viene para redimir a la humanidad de las garras del maligno. Las Escrituras de este domingo nos piden que reflexionemos: cuando me enfrento a una tentación, ¿recuerdo que Jesús es más fuerte que Satanás, para que él pueda darme la fuerza para rechazar la tentación, y si caigo en el pecado, para Elijo permanecer separado, escondiéndome de Dios?

Czytania biblijne przeznaczone na dzisiejszą, X Niedzielę w Czasie Zwykłym, dotyczą wpływu grzechu na Boże dzieło Stworzenia oraz sposobu, w jaki On ten problem rozwiązał. W Księdze Rodzaju opisano, co zdarzyło się tuż po Upadku Adama i Ewy. Kiedy Adam skosztował owoc z drzewa poznania, schował się w krzakach, gdyż był nagi. Wtedy to, „Pan Bóg zawołał mężczyznę i zapytał go: Gdzie jesteś?”. Bóg ich szuka, lecz oni się ukrywają. To jest dziwne, bo wcześniej, Adam i Ewa nie próbowali się ukrywać. Przed Upadkiem, byli oni tak blisko Boga, że codziennie z Nim spacerowali. Wspólne spacery świadczyły o stopniu

ich zażyłości. Teraz wszakże coś się zmieniło – zamiast spacerować z Bogiem, Pierwsi Ludzie się przed Nim chowają. Odłączyli się od Pana. Póki co, chowają się w Rajskim Ogrodzie, ale ta rozłąka jest już trwała. Adam i Ewa uświadamiają to sobie dopiero po wygnaniu z Raju. Owa historia przedstawiona jest na niniejszym obrazie, pędzla Mariotta Albertinelliego, zatytułowanym: „Wygnanie Adama i Ewy z Raju” (1514 rok). W górnym lewym rogu, widzimy Boga poszukującego Adama i Ewy. W tle, tuż pod Bogiem i Jego obłokiem, można dostrzec Ewę, ukrywającą się w krzakach. Na pierwszym planie po prawej stronie, Adam i Ewa opuszczają Ogród Edenu. Fizyczne opuszczenie przez nich Raju symbolizuje ich duchową rozłąkę z Panem. Taki właśnie jest skutek grzechu. Grzech oddziela nas od Boga. Stanowi barierę na naszej drodze do życia wiecznego, prowadzi nas do śmierci doczesnej i oddaje nas w niewolę diabłu. Grzech zatem nie tylko niszczy naszą serdeczną relację z Bogiem, ale i sprawia, że stajemy się podatni na podszepty Szatana. W swoim komentarzu na temat tego fragmentu, święty Ambroży pisze: „Adam więc ukrywa się, chociaż wie, że Bóg jest obecny i szuka go. Ukrywa się, choć Bóg go wzywa i to głosem, który rani duszę ukrywającego się. Bóg pyta Adama: Gdzie jesteś? To znaczy: Czemu się ukrywasz? Dlaczego teraz unikasz Tego, Którego wcześniej tak bardzo pragnąłeś ujrzeć? Obarczone winą sumienie nie potrzebuje sędziego, aby wymierzyć sobie karę. Ono pragnie się gdzieś skryć, lecz tak naprawdę, jest nagie przed Panem”. W dzisiejszej Ewangelii, Bóg podaje rozwiązanie tego problemu. Ludziom wydaje się, iż Jezus Sam jest opętany przez złego ducha. Chrystus jasno udowadnia wątpiącym, że ma władzę wypędzania złych duchów, gdyż nie jest jednym z nich. On pozostaje poza ich zasięgiem. Jezus jest Bogiem, Który mocą Ducha Świętego naprawia szkody wyrządzone przez grzech. W Ewangelii, mężczyzną, o którym mówi Jezus, jest diabeł. Ludzkość pozostaje w jego niewoli od czasu wygnania Adama i Ewy. Aż do teraz diabeł mógł być spokojny o swoje królestwo zdeprawowanych ludzkich dusz. Chrystus jednakże jest silniejszy. Przybył, by pokonać Złego i odzyskać wszystko to, co tamten zagarnął. Bóg przybywa w Jezusie po to, aby wyrwać ludzkość ze szponów diabła. Dzisiejsze czytania skłaniają do refleksji: czy w obliczu pokusy, pamiętam o tym, że Jezus jest silniejszy od Szatana? Czy proszę Pana, aby dał mi siłę do przezwyciężenia tej pokusy? Jeśli zaś upadnę, czy decyduję się trwać w grzechu, odsunięty od Boga? Dziękujemy wszystkim, którzy wzięli udział w parafialnym Karnawale. Szczególne podziękowania należą się naszym wspaniałym wolontariuszom, bez których to wydarzenie nie byłoby możliwe. Módlmy się za wszystkich służących w Siłach Zbrojnych. Święta Maryjo, Matko Nieustającej Pomocy, miej nas zawsze w Swej opiece. Święty Józefie, módl się za nami. Vivat Iesus! Chwała Jezusowi! Najświętsza Dziewico Maryjo, Schronienie Grzeszników, módl się za nami.

Fr. Bob’s Briefs Today, we celebrate the Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. In the Scripture readings today, we hear about the effect of sin in God’s work of creation and God’s solution to this problem. From the First Reading in the Book of Genesis, we what happens after the Fall of Adam and Eve. We read, “after the man, Adam, had eaten of the tree, the LORD God called to the man and asked him, "Where are you?" God is looking for them, but they are hiding. This is a strange occurrence because they had never hid from God before. Prior to the Fall, Adam and Eve were so close to God that they walked with God everyday. Walking together as a sign of their close union and relationship. However, now something was different. Instead of walking together, Adam and Eve are hiding from God. They

have separated themselves from God. For the moment, Adam and Eve are hiding from God in the Garden, but this separation from God is permanent, and is made evident to them in their expulsion from the Garden of Eden.

In this beautiful image, entitled Adam and Eve Expulsion from Paradise (1514) by Mariotto Albertinelli, we see this story from the Book of Genesis illustrated for us. In the upper left corner, we see God looking for Adam and Eve. Below God and His cloud, in the background, we see Eve hiding among the bushes and shrubs. In the front right of the painting, we see Adam and Eve leaving paradise. Their physical departure from the Garden of Eve symbolizes their spiritual separation from God.

This is what sin does. The effect, or consequence, of sin is that sin separates us from God, makes us unfit for heaven, brings us temporal death, threatens us with eternal death, and makes us slaves to the devil. So, not only does sin break our close relationship with God, but also, by choosing to sin, we fall under the dominion and power of the Satan. Teaching on this passage of Scripture, St. Ambrose writes, “so you find Adam concealing himself, when he knew that God was present, and wishing to be hidden when called by God with that voice which wounded the soul of him who was hiding: Adam, where are you? That is to say, Why are you hiding yourself? Why are you concealed? Why do you avoid Him, Whom you once longed to see? A guilty conscience is so burdensome that it punishes itself without a judge, and wishes for covering, and yet is bare before God.”

In the Gospel today, we hear God’s solution to this problem of sin. We hear how people think that Jesus Himself is possessed by an evil spirit. Jesus makes it very clear that He drives out demons because He is not one of them. Rather, Jesus can drive out demons because He is outside of their influence, power, and kingdom. Jesus is God, and through the power of the Holy Spirit, He casts out demons and is repairing the separation caused by sin. The strong man that Jesus speaks of is the devil. The devil has kept mankind under his control since the Fall of Adam and Eve. The devil has had nothing to worry about up to now because he has been the strong man able to defend his prize and kingdom of corrupted human nature. However, Jesus is stronger, and He has come to attack the devil and win back from him what he has taken. In Jesus, God comes to redeem mankind from the clutches of the evil one. The Scriptures this Sunday ask us to reflect: when I am faced with a temptation, do I call to mind that Jesus is stronger than Satan, so that He can give me the strength to reject the temptation, and if I fall to sin, to I choose to remain separated, hiding from God? Please pray for the all who serve and protect us in the Armed Forces. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Good Help, help us with her maternal care and St. Joseph pray for us. Just a few words about our new bulletin format: You may have noticed that we have a partial color bulletin now. Are people thankful for the new color bulletin? No, they are not. We have not heard any compliments, only complaints. I know it’s traumatic for some people to flip a few pages in the church bulletin to find what you’re looking for, even though though it’s no problem to flip the pages through your newspaper to find the horoscope, garage sale ads, celebrity happenings, or other essentials in life. It was not easy to get color for our bulletin. In my meeting with the J.S. Paluch company recently, they told me that our bulletin does not produce any revenue, due to low advertising. Paluch said color would not be possible. I managed to negotiate at least partial color for our bulletin. Partial color means that the publisher has set pages for color and black and white. We moved “Fr. Bob’s Briefs” in English to page 4 because that was the first color page available in color. My primary language is English, and many times I write about the art that I select, and I think it would be helpful to see it in color what I am writing about. That’s why my English column was moved to page 4. Plus, the same people who are complaining that my English article was moved, behind the Polish and Spanish translations, would be the first to go on a tirade of complaints if those articles had color and English was black in white. So, I would still be doing something wrong either way. I am thankful to J. S. Paluch for their cooperation to provide us with partial color for our bulletin. We do our best to work with the guidelines provided to us.
