Aim to include four food groups in your packed lunch – this helps provide your body with a variety of nutrients for good health and the fuel your body needs to be acti ve. Choose foods that are in season and foods that are easy to eat while out-side such as whole fresh fruit—nature’s fast food, whole grain crackers with bean dip, and fi nger foods such as baby tomatoes or carrots. Limit the number of unwanted guests at your lunch! Ants aren’t the only intruders, ‘bugs’ such as E. coli and Salmon-ella can multi ply quickly in food stored at room temperature and warmer. Pack your lunch in a cooler with plenty of ice packs, keep your cooler out of direct sunlight and don’t let food sit out of the cooler for longer than two hours.
Good hydrati on during the hot months helps you and your child stay healthy, happy and ready to play! Children need plenty of fl uids as they are smaller and eat less than adults, making them more likely to overheat in warmer temperatures. Children are also busy playing and exploring the outdoors and may not pay att enti on to their thirst signals, so remember to off er your child water or milk frequently.
Spring and Summer is a great time for venturing
out on hikes, visiting parks and exploring nature,
as well as a time when children may be heading
to camp. Packing a nutritious, safe lunch that
you can take along is important.

Let’s work together to keep the pool water free from fouling, and the pool open for all swimmers by practicing Healthy Swimming Behaviours …• Please do not go swimming if you are feeling unwell, especially if you have an upset stomach.• Do not bring your child to swimming lessons if they are feeling unwell, have diarrhoea, are vomiting (or
have vomited in the past day), or have a cough.• Shower with soap before swimming; wash your hands after using the toilet or changing diapers. • Non-toilet trained infants/toddlers and participants who experience incontinence must wear leak-proof
swim pants or garments of a similar nature.• Take children for frequent bathroom breaks, ensure your child uses the bathroom prior to entering the
pool and if it appears your child needs to use the bathroom during swimming, take him/her to the wash-room immediately!
• Change diapers in the change rooms and not at the pool side. Dispose of diapers properly and clean up the diaper changing area.
• Avoid swallowing the pool water or getting water in your mouth. • Please do not feed your child before swimming and do not go swimming for one hour after eating.• In the unfortunate event that our pool water is contaminated with fecal matter or vomit, facility staff are
required to close the pool in order to properly disinfect the water and ensure water quality is within the appropriate range set by the Public Health Act before swimmers can enter the pool.
Please practice healthy swimming behaviours. Thank you for your cooperation!

ARENA
All of the ice user groups including the Rampage, Ladies Hockey, the Recreation and the Old timers Hockey Leagues along with the City of Prince Rupert would like to give a special “Thank You” to Prince Rupert Minor Hockey Association for pur-chasing the new Zamboni Ice Cleaner and loaning it to the recreation department to maintain the ice for all users. Without this piece of equipment users would have been facing down time on the ice this winter due to the age and lack of depend-ability of the existing equipment. THANKS MINOR HOCKEY !!!
