Days are speeding by and my sense of time is skewed. It seems that we celebrated Easter just a couple of weeks ago, but the calendar has clicked off 50 days! Now we celebrate Pentecost, the indwelling and em-powerment of the Holy Spirit. Have you ever stopped to consider all of the “things” in our daily lives that have no purpose at all until power is given from a totally different source? A faucet is just a piece of pipe . . . until the valve is opened to let the water in; the switch on the wall is nothing . . . until it is turned on allowing electricity to flow. The same principle applies to all of us: The pur-poses that God gave us here on earth cannot be realized until we allow the power of the

New Series: “Finding Contentment”

Men like you are finding it tougher than ever to be content with what they have. They com-pare themselves with others and continually come up short. The soul-gnawing result is dis-couragement and disappointment. Lasting contentment comes only from a trans-formation of your mind, emotions, and will. It also takes a personal encounter with the God who can make you content. In Being God’s Man by Finding Contentment, you will track this struggle for a new identity through various biblical passages. Like Jacob, you will not be fully settled and content until you lay to rest your past and take up a new identity in Christ. Jacob became a new creature, a man on a mission for the Lord. His struggle was over. He knew why he was here and what he

had to do. His life took on purpose and meaning that

transcended the striv-ing. And your life can do the same.

Join us Thursday night for: Being God’s

Man …by finding Contentment.

Don’t let your hearts be

troubled. Trust in God, and trust

also in me. There is more than

enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so,

would I have told you that I am

going to prepare a place for you?

When everything is ready, I will

come and get you, so that you will

always be with me where I am.

John 14:1-3

The day has been planned for months, the dress fits perfectly and looks amaz-ing especially after losing those stubborn twenty pounds. The bridesmaids are

clothed identically including matching shoes, earrings and hair styles. The groom is dressed in tux and polished shoes, the flowers are ar-ranged, the cake displayed and it’s supposed to be the PERFECT day. At least nothing is sup-posed to go wrong. Yet no matter how well planned, how well intended the day is sup-posed to be, often (usually) something happens that misses the “perfect day” mark. Not only does the day fall short, but the thing that caused the missed mark often ends up taking the spotlight for years to come. Just for fun for this month of June, known most in years past as the wedding month, I offered several couples to write some of the things that didn’t go quite right on that sup-posedly perfect day. Some cute, some a bit

more frustrating, non-the-less, the perfect day was not attained:

When I married my 1st husband (now de-ceased) a widower with 2 small children, my new 3 year old daughter was the flower girl. She was proud to sprinkle her rose petals. As I started down the aisle, she proclaimed loudly, “Don’t step on my flowers!” –Beverly Cavenee–

During the ceremony, my best man and I came out one song too early. So we sang a little du-et until Dana arrived! –Bob Bowers–

After the reception at the Long Beach Yacht Club, we were to make a grand exit on a gon-dola to Teresa’s parent’s house in Naples. Many guests waited to throw rice and see this impressive departure. The only problem was,

and we have more fun stuff planned for July and August!!

July and August “Sneak Peak”

Alpine Indian Village Camp - Sunday, July 29th thru Friday, August 3rd for all kids who are entering 4th thru 6th grade in August. The theme this year is 'Shine'. Through fun and inter-active teaching sessions, crafts, activities, singing, skits, camp-

fires, and more, kids will learn about how God calls us to let our Light Shine! Cost is $225.

Week Of Hope - Sunday, July 29th thru Friday, August 3rd for all kids entering 7th thru 9th grade in August. Week Of Hope is a 5-day mission trip where youth focus on building friendships and meaningful connections as they serve the needs of people through local ministries and non-profit organizations. The theme this year is 'Made'. Students will be challenged to embrace how Jesus is making everything new in their life – the good, the bad, and everything in between – and also how He will be using them to do the same in the world around

them. It will be a time to reorient their relationship with Jesus and discover who God made them to be.

Cost is $248.

Both events are amazing opportunities for our youth. We want them to be available to all students, which is why we need your help . . . We have 13 spots for students to go to Alpine and 10 spots for students to go to Week of Hope. We hope to have them all filled! In addition to the Chili Cook-off, please consider sponsoring a student . Any amount you feel led to contribute will be much appreciated. Camps impact a teens life like no other and bound to make a difference in the lives of 23 of our students. Donations can be noted with Alpine/WOH or PT/JH.

Last year we set out for Forest Home for a 5-day adventure at the end of August. This year, we man-aged to move our week to the end of June. These retreats have been a great addition to HM. I have seen more spiritual and relational growth at Forest Home than any other time in our ministry. We get away from the noise and distractions just long enough to truly connect with God and each other. The bonus is that it’s a blast! This year I have every intention of shattering our ice cream eating record . . . Who’s in? Unfortunately, the cost for Forest Home has gone up this

year. Yet, because this trip is 5-days in length and covers food, lodging, and a growing experience like none other, IT IS WORTH THE EXPENSE!

To offset the cost, though, we have two things. One, we’ll be hosting a car wash on a Sunday morning before our departure. In addition, we look forward to the Chili Cook-off that will benefit our youth summer and winter camps. We do hope all plan to attend! So here are the particulars:

Our Heritage of Song Last month I started to share with you that according to the Bible, singing praise to God isn’t just something we do; instead, it penetrates to the very heart of who we are as the body of Christ. Because of this, singing praise to God is a key element of what we do when we gather together in His Name.

The Bible is filled with this cause and effect of people in worship. This month, let’s look at how Moses experienced the re-sult of worship in his Life.

The Red Sea In Exodus 14 and 15, we are shown the event of the parting of the Red Sea and the response of God’s people. After the Israelites had safely crossed through the parted Red Sea, the Lord asked Moses to "Stretch out [his] hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen."

27Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians were fleeing to-ward it, and the LORD swept them into the sea. 28The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived. 29But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. 30That day the LORD saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31And when the Israelites saw the great power the LORD displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.

Moses’ response to God’s protection was one of worship and praise to the Lord.

1Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD : "I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea. 2 The LORD is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him.

Next month we’ll see how David and God’s people re-sponded after the Ark was brought back to Jerusalem.

Worship Ministry Tyler Thompson the gondola misunderstood our order and were waiting for us to show up at their dock a mile away. So, no gondola, no grand departure, no rowing off into the beautiful sunset as planned. Although flying at sunrise to Hawaii was good. -Roger Nixon–

When Bob and I were standing in front of the pastor, I noticed right away that the pastor was wearing the boutonniere meant for Bob (Lily of the Valley) and Bob was wearing the pastor’s (carnation). Hmmm, what was I to do? Another surprise was my aunt who opened all our gifts and had them displayed by the time we got to the reception. Nev-er understood that one, and never asked. –June Campbell–

We had hoped the unusual summer rainy period would be over by July 1, but it wasn't. So the planned outside wedding photos didn’t happen other than a few snapped between rain drops. The tradition in Wisconsin was to ride around in your car after the wedding with a “Just Married” sign and noise from cans trailing behind. Unfortunately, my Pinto ran out of gas. After stopping to put in $5 of gas, I took the change re-ceived from a traveler’s check and put it in my tux pocket which could have paid for a dinner, but didn’t . . . since I forgot about it. The rental shop got a little tip, though. –Doug Scholten–

Other than experiencing a few accidents the week before our wedding: Scraping and bruising my leg through a fall in “black rock”, stepping on a nail with my right foot, and losing a con-tact lens, all went smoothly. Well except that our custom de-signed rings didn’t get finished, the air conditioning broke in the chapel during 100° weather, and I was struck by uncontrol-lable laughter when asked, “Do you?”. Though I half-blindly hobbled down the isle while “glowing”, we have been blessed with 35-years of love and joy and at times uncontrollable laughter! I love you, Babe! –Shirley York–

Amazingly, as time passes situations that cause us frustra-tion or disappointment can someday provide a good story to tell and something to laugh about. “Someday you’ll look back on this and laugh,” echoes in our mind during moments of ag-gravating situations. Yet through all the disappointments of any hoped for perfect time, we can know that one day the per-fect will come. The marriage supper of the lamb will be that perfect day when Christ takes his bride, clothes her in His right-eousness, and celebrates with her. Yes now we have those “less than perfect days”, but soon the perfect one will come. And, what a day of rejoicing that perfect wedding day will be!

Birthday Blessings

Teresa Nixon If you have a June birthday, but it’s not listed, please call the church office so we can update our records.

Pastor Doug Scholten

Monthly Thought: Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of

succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter. —Francis Chan

P A G E 8

for whom it all matters? A couple chapters earlier in the book of Revelation, we find this verse: Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. This passage might give us the impression that the church can make herself beautiful for Christ. Yet the scripture simply says the Bride has made herself ready. What is she ready for? She is ready to receive the wedding dress. She is ready to be clothed in the radiance of Christ. It is Christ who provides the wedding gar-ment. It is He who puts upon his church the pure white raiment of His righteousness. As the old hymn says: "Clothed in his righteous-ness alone, faultless to stand before the throne." So if you attend a wedding this June and see the beautiful bride, give thanks to God that He clothes us, the Church, in the right-eousness of Christ. It is He who makes us beautiful. All we need to do is be ready to receive what He gives.

Weddings, and flowers and Dad’s with new ties,

Grads whose parents release held sighs.

Lazy days of summer are beginning to show,

And the gloom each morning, well, it just has to go.

Yes, much goes on in this month of June,

But of course we know there is always room,

To wish you good times in the days ahead,

And God’s blessing and love will also be said.

So go forth with great faith through this coming year, with peace and health and

moments held dear, Cause His love

forever abiding is true, And with our prayers we add: “Happy Birthday to You!”

God Bless Your Year!!!
