VAFC Strategic Plan - How are we doing?

A Word from Resource Development...

Page 5

The VAFC is committed to supporting, strengthening and advocating for free clinics to deliver quality healthcare services. Earlier this year, the VAFC completed a 3 year Strategic Plan. A committee comprised of many of your peers spent considerable time on this project. The details of their work were

shared at the Executive Director’s retreat in March.

We wanted to take this opportunity to get feedback on your perception on the Strategic Plan. We have developed a very short perception survey which will take no more than five minutes of your time to complete. The information gained from your input will help the VAFC to better serve you. As an added incentive, for those of you who complete this survey by June 8, 2012, your name will be placed in a drawing to receive 50% off for a 2012 Annual Conference registration for one participant. Please click on the link below.

Thank you for your support.

The Nurse Leadership Institute (NLI), a program of the Richmond Memorial Health Foundation, is recruiting for its sixth class, the Class of 2013. The NLI is 9-month leadership development opportunity for high-performing nurses. We are in search of nurses from across Virginia who serve as, or have been identified as having the potential to be, a nurse manager or a member of the management team. Fel-lows can work in any healthcare environ-ment across the Commonwealth (e.g., hospital, long-term care, public health, education, safety net). The NLI website, www.VirginiaNLI.org includes program details – and the on-line application. The application deadline has been extended to 8 am, Thursday, June 7th for nurses working in free clinics, health depart-

ments and community health centers.

An executive sponsoring a Fellow in the Class of 2012 reported: “The NLI has been a great tool for nurse leaders within our organization. I have observed an in-crease in the nurses' confidence and the ability to be more ‘big-picture-thinking’ with a renewed motivation to ‘engage’ in the strategic initiatives of our organiza-tion.” Other employers share similar feed-

back.

Fellow feedback:

“This is a phenomenal learning experi-

ence!”

“I developed camaraderie with other

nurse managers and leaders.”

“It’s a great way to prepare nurses to become effective leaders that will positively impact the nursing profes-

sion.”

“Overall, this was a life-changing expe-rience – it has re-energized me and is helping me find the right path for

my future.”

“The NLI is the MOST valuable experi-ence ever experienced in leadership. Faculty and staff were knowledgea-ble, supportive and flexible and pro-

vided excellent guidance.”

Recent graduate of this program, Carol-Jo Osinski, BSN, MSN, FNP, Lackey Free Clinic , found it to be a valuable

experience.

Tuition is $2,375. Scholarship funds are available; please see the NLI website for more information: http://www.virginianli.org/how-to-apply/

tuition-and-scholarships.php

For more details, please go to: www.VirginiaNLI.org or contact

Denise Daly Konrad at 804.282.6282 or

[email protected]. Fellows’ applications must include a

nomination form from their Chief Nurse Executive or equivalent. The application, to include the employer

Nomination and Recommendation Form, must be submitted by 8 am,

Thursday, June 7th for nurses work-ing in free clinics and community

health centers.

The new facility will provide 5 regular exam rooms and a large rehab treatment space; an on-site pharmacy with expanded

storage area; and a new dental clinic that can serve up to three patients at once. The facility will also offer rooms for patient consultation, diabetic education and

nutrition planning with a full kitchen.

Kay Bradley, executive director of the clinic, states that the building will initially

be funded through a USDA Rural Develop-ment loan. A $1.8 million campaign has been launched with $261,000 already raised from the Board of Directors and

Board Committee leadership. She says, “Everyone is committed to making this happen.” The building will mean less travel time for Mathews County patients, closer

to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital where the majority of diagnostic and outpatient

services are provided and is located across

the street from Sentara Urgent Care where additional charity care services are being planned.
