June is a very important month because our fiscal year ends June 30. That means we only have this month to make it to $1,950,000 – the amount we need to continue to bring you all of the fabulous programming you have come to expect from AETN. We currently need approximately $325,000 to reach that budgeted goal.

These numbers are not just random goals. Although we work diligently to make the most of your hard earned dollars and keep our expenses as low as possible, these are the amounts we must raise to maintain our current level of service.

We’ll be conducting a special on-air fundraising drive May 31 through June 8. That, along with mailed-in contributions, will help us reach our elusive goal and assure that we have the funding to move into next year.

“Great Performances: Pavarotti: A Voice for the Ages”

Celebrate the sound of Pavarotti, the tenor who extended his presence far beyond Italian opera.

Like Enrico Caruso before him, Luciano Pavarotti extended his presence far beyond the limits of Italian opera. Quickly establish-ing his rich sound as the great male operatic voice of the 20th century, he expanded his

reach to stadium concerts and pop collabora-tions that brought him fame beyond measure.

Audiences adored his larger than life personal-ity, childlike charm, generous figure and happy

go lucky style. This program celebrates the 50th an-niversary since the launch of the international phenomenon. In 1963, he debuted in Amsterdam, Vienna, Zurich and finally London. Even today, it is his powerful sound, with its natural grace and brilliant color, that still leads many to consider him the world’s greatest voice. Pavarotti brought opera to the masses and made football fans worldwide fall in love with “Nessun dorma.” This program includes that hit and other arias from “La Bohème,” “Rigoletto” and “Aida;” Neapolitan songs in arrangements by Henry Mancini, including “Mamma” and “O Sole Mio;” and popular duets with Bono, Sting, Vanessa Williams and Eric Clapton. Airs Sunday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m.

“Masterpiece: Mystery! Endeavour”

Before Inspector Morse, there was the rookie Constable Morse, fed up with police work and ready to nip his career in the bud by handing in his resignation. That is, until a murder turned up that only he could solve. Shaun Evans stars as the young Endeavour Morse, before his signature red Jaguar, but with his deductive powers running in high gear.

In episode one, “Girl,” DC Morse (Shaun Evans) and DI Thursday (Roger Allam) investigate burgled gas meters, the sudden death of a young secretarial student and a string of post office robberies, confounding the solution to a pair of violent murders. Could Morse’s future on the force be in jeopardy? Sunday, June 8 at 9 p.m.

“Masterpiece: Mystery! Endeavour, Season 2” begins Sunday, June 29, and

continues Sundays through July 20 at 9 each night. Shaun Evans (“The Take,” “The Virgin Queen”) returns for a second season as the young rookie, DC Endeavour Morse.

“Healing ADD”

ADD or ADHD is a national health crisis that continues to grow – yet it remains one of the most misunderstood illnesses today.

Daniel Amen and his wife, nurse Tana Amen, take a completely new look at ADD and explain seven unique types based on the extensive brain imaging work of the Amen Clinics on tens of thousands of ADD patients.

“Exploring Arkansas”Monday, June 2, at 6:30 p.m.

The Mossy Bluff National Nature Trail begins at the William Carl Garner Visitors Center in Heber Springs and meanders along a bluff, offering spec-tacular views of the Little Red River and Greers Ferry Dam. The lost art of handcrafting wooden canoes and kayaks is kept alive by a boat builder in Bentonville. DeSoto Bluff Trail Park in Arkadelphia overlooks the Ouachita River and serves as an outdoor classroom for area school students. Reed’s Bridge Battlefield along Bayou Meto just south of Jacksonville preserves the site of a forgotten Civil War skirmish in 1863. It also includes an 1860-era replica of a farmstead.

Two independent Arkansas films have been chosen for the PBS Online Film Festival.

“Westland,” produced by photographer Diana Michelle, explores the life and art of reclusive Winslow, Arkansas, artist Tim West. Filmed over a period of six years, the film details West’s active career – which spans more than 60 years – from his early success to his battles with personal demons and return home. West had what should have been an auspicious start when at age 18 he mailed a print and had it accepted into the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, followed by a pair of works he sent to the Louvre in Paris, where they were also accepted.

Michelle teaches photography and Photoshop at Northwest Technical Institute. She has oper-ated a portrait studio, Diana Michelle Photog-raphy, for the past six years and displays her art at local and regional galleries and museums.

“Diamond John,” produced by Travis Mosler, is a period comedy based on the true story of the wildly eccentric character John Wesley Huddleston and his family. He tries to support his wife and five daughters by digging for gold and precious minerals, but the ground has consistently turned up dry. When faced with the news that his family’s home is facing immi-nent foreclosure and his wife is threatening to take their daughters and leave, Huddleston is forced to decide between getting a respectable job or continuing his passionate prospecting with unlikely hopes of striking it rich.

Mosler graduated from the University of Central Arkansas’s digital filmmaking program in 2013. He also studied for a summer at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts during a Directing Intensive program. He currently serves as the video content director at Agency 501 in Little Rock.

“AETN is proud and delighted that we can offer such an impressive platform for Arkansas filmmakers’ works to be seen – by millions, really,” AETN Executive Producer Carole Adornetto said.

Now entering its third year, the PBS Online Film Festival highlights short, independent films that are unique, thought provoking and represent the best of public media. It features more than 25 short (three to 15 minutes) films and will kick off Monday, June 16, and run through Thursday, July 31. Starting June 16, viewers can watch the films at pbs.org/filmfestival and vote for their favorites. The film with the most votes will receive a “peo-ple’s choice” award.

AETN also partners with the Little Rock Film Festival and the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival. We are currently developing partnerships with the Spring Creek Festival in Springdale, Indie Film Fest in Eureka Springs, and the Hope for Humanity Film Fest in Hope.
