Play in a Day for Year 5

On Monday 2nd June, Year 5 were visited by Kelvin, a drama teacher, who

helped us to present a play about Healthy Living. Our audience were the rest

of Coram House. The play was trying to convince everyone to lead a healthy

life by exercising regularly, cutting down on junk food, and much much more!

Everyone laughed when Rhys screamed when his tooth was pulled out by

Matthew the Dentist. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and our play! Year 5

Pupil Concert

On the day of the Pupil Concert, I was very excited. It went very well and

everyone enjoyed it. I played the clarinet as part of a trio with Darcey Ducker

and Emily Sanderson. The concert started with the Orchestra, who played a

piece called ‘The Seasons’. Overall I enjoyed it very much.

Coram House Report From Eden Camp

Page 2

Year Group: 6 Date: 15th May 2014

Place: Eden Camp WW2 History Museum near Malton

Weather: Perfect - sunny and warm

Museum: Extremely interesting and sometimes very moving.

Behaviour of Pupils: Excellent - 10/10.

Mess hut condition after lunch: Amazingly clean and tidy!

Daftest Question: 'Was this one of those holiday camps, then, sir?'

Individual Experiences: Very emotional in the Holocaust hut; very frightening in the Blitz hut and in

the U-Boat hut.

Lasting Impression: So many people gave their lives so that we all could be free in the world.

Looking to the future what do we

do?

We should do our very best to live together in peace and respect one

another.

Lessons learnt: Too many to mention!

Report compiled by: Steve Bontoft

We try hard to find peaceful

resolutions to conflict.

A star in the making at the Rugby Kicking Clinic!

Since Christmas, I have been training with the Doncaster Rugby Club under 11s. We meet once a week at Castle

Park where there is a fantastic Junior Rugby Section, providing training from the age of 7 through to 18.

My coach has selected me to go to a Rugby Kicking Clinic run by Jamie Lennard, the Doncaster Knights No 10.

Having watched Jamie play for the Knights, it’s great fun getting one to one tuition from him and learning new

skills.

A new season will start in September and I will hopefully be putting my training into practice for the under 12s.

Year 6 Rounders Success

On Tuesday 20th May, the Year 6 Rounders team played against a Year 7 team from our Senior School.

The Year 6 team consisted of:

Niamh Anderson, Lucy Assassa, Annie Bamford, Lucy Brunton-Douglas, Rachel Forrester, Eleanor Kendall-Jones,

Lucy Kitching, Uma Schuth and Rachel Swales, and Harriet Metcalfe promoted from Year 5.

Year 6 fielded first, resulting in the Year 7 team achieving 6½ rounders. When Year 6 batted, we got 8 rounders.

We had a short second innings, which we won again by us having 4½ rounders and Year 7 getting 2½. All in all we

had an excellent play and were proud of our victory!

The National Cup Cricket Match On Friday 16th May the Year 6 Cricket Team

travelled to Leeds Grammar School for the National

Cup Cricket tournament. Coram played games

against Ampleforth College, Hymers College and

Leeds Grammar School all within the one day.

The Year 6 team of Josh Dawson, Harry Dean, Joe

Morton, Oliver Nicholls, Will Harrison, Alex Watson,

Max Jefferies and Matthew Manders were assisted by

phenomenal play from James Bourke (Y5) and Max

Grant (Y4).

The whole team pulled together well with some great

efforts in the field, but were unfortunately beaten by

their stronger opposition in all three matches.

Matthew Manders, 6G

Specialist Sporting Sessions Max Jefferies in Year 6 currently trains with Goole Tennis Club and we were absolutely delighted that two of the

clubs’ coaches were able to offer specialist tennis sessions to every year group in Coram House. Check out the

photo gallery on the TV in Coram House!

Recently all the children from Year 2 to Year 6 also took part in a 40 minute specialist rugby training session with

Patrick Roberts out in the glorious sunshine. Patrick returns on Friday 20th June to offer specialist cricket

sessions and we hope the weather will be favourable for us!

We are also looking forward to specialist football sessions over the next two weeks with Leeds United Football

Club. With a session for Years 2, 3 and 4 and another for Years 5 and 6, we hope it will inspire our pupils, both

boys and girls alike, to take up the opportunity for further training through the forthcoming LUFC sessions on our

fields in the summer holidays.

Check your half term mailing (or the posters in Coram House) for more details of the numerous sporting events

planned in school over the summer following our Holiday Club activities. Live life adventurously!

The Outward Bound Centre at Ullswater

Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, accompanied by staff, spent a weekend at the Outward Bound Centre on the shore of

Lake Ullswater. The children and staff took part in a variety of exciting and challenging outdoor activities, working

in teams to help each other achieve their goals. This was a fabulous, if exhausting weekend and was thoroughly

enjoyed by all those who took part.

“I challenged myself to the limits!” - Eleanor Kendall-Jones

“I liked the ‘jog and dip’ (in the lake!) the best.” - Alex Santiago-Martin
