Edinburg United Methodist Church
3 N. Shore Rd., Edinburg - “The Friendly Church”
Over the past several weeks some of our “Snow Birds” have been returning to Edinburg. It’s so good to see people who’ve been away for months in warmer climes, even if they do have better tans than we’ll achieve all summer! Have you just returned to the North Country after a summer in the sunny South? As you begin to form your new summer habits, are you thinking of looking for someplace to worship God? We hope you’ll consider worshiping with us on Sundays at 8:45AM. Our early service time makes it possible to enjoy time with God and God’s people be out on the lake while many of your neighbors are still drinking their first cup of coffee. If you’re not in a hurry to get back out in the sun, you can join some of our members at The Four Corners Diner after the service. There’s always a table or two reserved and we never have to wait in line. Also, we hope you’ll honor us with your company for our Strawberry Festival on June 20th. For only $5 you can get a yummy strawberry shortcake made with biscuits from the Diner and lots of other good “stuff”. May you be blessed with a wonderful summer here in Edinburg, where it’s truly “God’s Country”.

Get Happy Feet with Yoga Give your feet just a little attention, and your whole body will feel better. They hold us up all day long, they get us everywhere we need to go, and they connect us to the earth some yoga teachers even call the feet the ”roots” of the body. Yet for all that our feet do for us, we don’t do much for them in return. We cram them into tight shoes, pound along on them all day, and generally ignore them unless they’re giving us serious trouble. 7 of 10 people will suffer from foot problems, many of which are entirely preventable ranging from inflamed bunions and hammer toes, tendinitis, and plantar fasciitis. Those aren’t just minor ailments; some foot problems can alter the foot’s structure and trigger pain elsewhere in the body. In fact, experts say one of the most important reasons to treat foot problems early is to prevent them from throwing the knees, hips, back, and shoulders out of whack. One of the best ways to take care of your feet is with yoga. When you treat foot problems with yoga, you end up treating back pain, hip pain, all kinds of structural problems. Not only does it stretch out the muscles and lead to a greater range of motion, but it helps heal the root issue of inflammation as well. In fact, yoga gives feet a healthy workout that they rarely get any other way. Here are some tips from the experts on how best to use yoga to prevent or treat foot pain. Throw Your Weight AroundThe first place to begin building awareness of your feet is in standing poses such as Mountain Pose. Before you start the pose, think about how you naturally stand. Do you tend to put your weight on the inner edge of your foot, which tends to make your legs bow inward, or on the outer edge, which tends to make the knees bow out? (If you can’t tell, check the bottoms of your shoes—you can often tell from the way the soles are wearing.) Notice how your weight falls, and then play with it by rocking forward and back, lifting first your toes, then your heels. If you tend to stand leaning a little forward, try shifting your weight back a bit, and vice versa. Next, try lifting the arch of your foot while pushing down around the edges, creating both a sense of rooting into the earth and lifting energy up from the center.Work Those ToesOne great way to limber up stiff, underused feet

is to work on the movement of the toes, most of us have lost some range of motion in the toes. In standing poses, focus on elongating the toes to stretch the sole of your foot. Press down into your heels at the same time you press forward with the base of the big and little toes, grounding forward with the ball of the foot. This can improve circulation, pumping blood and lymph back toward your heart, and potentially stave off edema and varicose veins.
From Previous Page Be SquarePaying attention to and correcting the way your feet connect with the earth can correct foot and ankle problems that have repercussions throughout your body. For example, pronated feet (which roll inward from the ankle down) tend to cause knee problems and back pain. One way to think about foot stability is to think of your feet as having four corners: the big and little toes, and the outer and inner heels. Distributing your weight evenly across your feet is central to healthy alignment. And that, in turn, may lead to a surprise: By resolving foot problems, you may discover you’ve resolved your knee, back, hip, and shoulder problems as well. Look down to make sure that the second toe, shin, and knee are all in alignment as you start a pose.Stretch for StrengthAny pose that stretches the arch or the sole of the foot improves flexibility and loosens tension. Stand on a tennis ball and roll it back and forth under your foot, working the toes, the ball of the foot, the arch, and the heel. Hero Pose stretches the top of the foot and elongates the arch, while kneeling with the toes tucked under. This is the best way to lengthen the plantar muscles on the sole of the foot, which, when contracted, can become inflamed, leading to plantar fasciitis. Downward-Facing Dog is another way to give the feet a good stretch; lift the arches of the feet as high as possible, then extend the heels toward the floor to work the plantar fascia. At first it feels impossible when you try to lower your heels, but it just takes practice. And it feels so good when you do. Make these exercises part of your life, and your foot bones (not to mention your leg bones, hip bones, and maybe even your head bone) will be forever grateful. To learn more about how yoga can help feet, knees, hips, back and shoulders contact Ony Antonucci at 832-8249, or email [email protected]. Library Budget Vote To the Northville Public Library Taxpayers, you have been robbed of your right to weigh in on the proposed Northville Public Library budget. If the public had been afforded the opportunity to vote on the budget I am certain that the budget would have been defeated. Perhaps that is why they decided not to put it to a vote. Please note that the law did not prevent them from putting it on the ballot, they chose not to. Instead the Library Board of Trustees and the Library Director found a loophole that provided them cover to deny taxpayers a say in how their tax dollars are spent. And why did the Library Board not have a budget hearing at the same time and place as the Northville Public School District? So they did not have to answer to the public? I suspect so. This budget includes a raise for the Library Director, the highest paid Library Director of any similarly sized (and in many instances much larger) public library in all of upstate NY. This is the same Board of Trustees that permitted a trustee to illegally serve on the board for almost her entire 5 year term while living outside the School District & in another county. On a positive note, congratulations to Cristen Shepard on becoming a Northville Public Library Board Trustee. I am hopeful that she can help move the board in the right direction.

Bryn Brown Promoted to CMK’s Principle Broker!
CMK and Associates Real Estate is proud to announce the recent promotion of Bryn
Brown to Principal Broker of CMK and Associ-ates Real Estate. Christian C. Klueg, owner and CEO is excited to see Bryn assume her new role. After serving as the transaction coordinator over the past two years, Bryn has far exceeded her job description - bringing countless im-provements to the company with her insights, vision, and impeccable work ethic.
With Bryn assuming the role of principal broker, CMK will be able to devote even greater focus on agent development, stra-
tegic planning and marketing. Christian commented, “When you build something from the ground up, it can be difficult to trust others to assume responsibilities. Its easy to think that nobody out there cares as much, works as hard, or is as committed to your company’s success. In the past two years, I can honestly say Bryn has beyond proven herself as a professional who is committed, inspired, and beyond worthy of trust. We’re lucky to have her and excited to see her continued influence at CMK”.

Greetings and Salutations,
It has been almost three years since I first moved into Northville and became the Pastor of Wells UMC and First UMC in Northville. We have enjoy many hours of wonderful worship, mission and ministry that have helped and healed the brokenness in ourselves and the world. The UMC has an appointment system and Bishop Marc Webb has reassigned me to the Binghamton area as of July 1, 2015. I am both sadden and joyful as I will miss all of you and anticipate a new appointment. It has been wonderful to participate in all of the dinners, bazaars, food sales, old home days, revivals, Bible studies, community worship, parades and mission trips. Some of the ministries we have supported include: the United Methodist Church mission centers in Utica and Albany,

African University, Christmas boxes for the poor, brought in food for our local food bank, we sent care packages to our troops, collected food, toys and blankets for our furry friends at the Brennan Humane Society, collected hats, socks and mittens for the homeless and supported our friends in Guatemala by hosting a “Mayan Hands” sale. There is not enough room in this article to list all of the ways in which we have honored and served our Lord by reaching out to the needs of the world. If you are looking for a church home that will make a difference in the world and in you then perhaps First UMC is a place where you can find that sense of belonging. If you reside closer to Wells then you will find open and loving people in service and ministry there too. Northville UMC and Wells UMC will no longer be yoked and will both be receiving new pastors. The new pastors will need your love, support and acceptance. Take some time this summer and stop by and visit. Perhaps this is the church home you always have been looking for. If you don’t come you will never know. Listen to that still small voice; come and join in the building of God’s kingdom. Being the people of God and reaching out to the community offering a sense of belonging has been a priority of the ministries in the past three years. I will cherish the fond memories and I will hold you and your new pastors in prayer that you will bind together in love and mercy as you seek to be the people of God united together in Christ. May the peace that passes all understanding be yours now and forever,Rev. Dolly Waxman

Irish Immigration in Edinburgh conclusion
Last month I told you of the dreadful potato famine in Ireland 1845-1852. According to records very few if any Irish families were in Edinburgh in the early 1840’s. Those that came in the late 1830’s and early 1840’s may have come from Canada due to the political unrest that was occurring in Lower Canada causing rebellion in the streets of Montreal. Those that came after 1845 quite possibly did so due to the famine. Six new Irish families were in Edinburgh in 1855 but had moved on within the next 5 years. Timothy and Mary Fay from Ireland arrived in town late 1854; their 2 children were born in Saratoga County. Three months later they were sharing their home with Charles and Catherine Morrison-both from Ireland. Two months later the

Morrisons’ had taken in 4 Irish orphans; brothers and sisters, Neil, Mary, Mary Ann and Thomas Bar. Possibly these children had belonged to relatives or good friends who did not survive the famine? I believe the Morrison family eventually moved into the Town of Northampton. John and Margaret Kelly, John’s mother Bridget; 5 yr. old Corna Clancy and the Kelly’s 8 mo. old son Michael landed in town at the same time as the Morrisons’. John Morris of Canada and his wife Mary of Ireland came to town in 1851. Their 3 children were born in Saratoga County. Irish-born John and Margaret Barnes arrived in 1854 with 3 children born in Saratoga County. John was a laborer. In 1851 William Washburn of Hamilton County and his Irish-born wife Susan moved to Edinburgh with their 5 children. The family had previously lived in Hamilton and Fulton Counties. William was a farmer and land owner. Irish- born Thomas and Margaret Hall had lived in Rensselaer and Fulton Counties before arriving in Edinburgh in 1853 with their 9 children. Five more new Irish families had arrived by 1860. This time period saw the largest Irish population increase in our town’s history. Farmer Abram Vandercar’s wife Ann was from Ireland. Their 3 children were born in NYS. Martin Durn and his wife Ann were born in Ireland. Their 5 children were born in NYS.
The 3 McCuen children were born in NYS but their parents Joseph and Hannah were Irish. This family was still in town in 1865. John and Catherine Pembrooke-in their early 20’s- were Irish; their 3 young children born in NYS. Another Irish member of their household, Statia Pembrooke, was probably a sister of John’s. Farm laborer Pat Hickey and his wife Mary were Irish. Irishman farmer Michael Rice had a wife Mary and 6 children, all from NYS. Older Mary Cahoe-in the same household and also from

From Previous PageIreland-was probably a relative. 60 year- old Matthew Connolly was an Irish farmer living alone. Several Irish hired men were in town in 1860. Wm. Dullard,23, was in the household of Daniel and Mary McKay. John McCarty,90, was a cabinetmaker in the household of John and Ruama Olmstead who owned a furniture- making shop in Beecher Hollow. Morris Dryden,30, managed the farm of elderly Isaac and Chloe Noyes and Wm. Ross,22, was a clerk in Wm. Conkling’s store in Batchellerville. Three new Irish families and 4 individuals were
in town by 1865 and only one was still here by 1870. The Thomas and Bridget O’Connall family farmed their own land. They were the parents of 4 but none of the children were living at home. Patrick and Mary Conley-in their 60’s-also farmed their own land. Thomas O’Connall, Patrick Conley and Joseph McCuen were naturalized citizens. Irishman Timothy Minaham, John Shields of Canada and his wife Mary Shields of Ireland were all living in the home of lumberman James Todd and his wife Jane. Timothy and John were laborers and listed as aliens. John Shields may have been a younger brother or nephew of Irish immigrant Michael Shields who had been in town since 1837.
Ann Russell was a domestic-housekeeper- in the home of Solomon and Alley Ellithorp. Ann remained in Edinburgh for many, many years. Thomas Peters,40, single, a naturalized citizen from Ireland was a laborer living in the household of his cousin Daniel Shay and Daniel’s wife, Rose and 2 daughters. Between 1865 and 1870 John and Beatrice Callan and their 2 daughters stayed awhile in town but were gone by 1875. Young Patrick Hanagan,22, was farming on the Hiram and Emily Person farm. By 1875 he was a laborer on the JP and Dora Noyes farm. He was still in town in 1880. Wm. McKay of Ireland, age 70, widower and weaver was living with his daughter, Irish-born Rose Shay-Slaughter and 9 yr. old granddaughter Mary Shay. By 1875
William was living on the farm of Ebenezer and Mary Wilson. Wm. was still in town in 1880. By 1892 Irish-born George Oakes and his US born wife Susan Quinby were living on a farm on the road later named for them. George(1840-1929) and Susan(1829-1897) were buried in Cold Brook Cemetery; then transferred to Edinburg Cemetery

with the creation of the Sacandaga Reservoir. The Catholic Irish were considered the lowest of the low in America in the 1850’s. They were terribly poor and undereducated. Sad to say these people had already experienced the” lowest of the low” in their mother country of Ireland by the British. Many large cities had Irish shanty towns where they all lived near each other in a form of self- defense. I remember many years ago my grandfather’s cousin showing me the site of Plattsburgh’s old Irish Shanty Town. The Irish were hard workers and America needed workers at this time in her history. The men held some very hard, dangerous jobs such as building bridges, canals and doing mine work. Others found factory work. In our area some found employment in the glove, leather and related industries of Fulton County. The women often took jobs as cooks, chamber or nurse maids. Many became housekeepers such as Ann Russell and Rose Shay-Slaughter. The Irish loved America and fought in all her wars from the Civil War forward. In the past 170 years the Irish have given so much back to their adopted country of America.

DO YOU KNOW THE SIGNS OF A STROKE? THINK F.A.S.T.!
Stroke is the number four cause of death and leading cause of disability in the U.S. Many Americans do not think of stroke as a major health concern, even though every forty seconds someone in America has a stroke. The damaging effects of a stroke may be prevented if you know how to act upon the warning signs. Thinking F.A.S.T. can mean the difference between recovery and disability, or even death!
WARNING SIGNS A stroke happens when a blood vessel is blocked or bursts and blood flow to the brain is stopped. Within just a few minutes of a stroke, brain cells begin to die. The most common sign of stroke is sudden weakness of the face, arm or leg, most often on one side of the body. Other warning signs include:Sudden numbness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body.Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding speech.Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.Sudden severe headache with no known cause.
THINK F.A.S.T. AND ACT F.A.S.T. F.A.S.T. is an acronym used to help people recognize and remember the common stroke symptoms: F = FACE Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face or mouth droop? A = ARM Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one drift downward? S = SPEECH Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase, such as ‘the sky is blue.’ Does the speech sound slurred or strange? T = TIME If you observe any of these signs, it is time to Call 911!

STROKE PREVENTION Know your numbers – Check your blood pressure regularly and talk to your doctor about your progress. Maintain a healthy weight – Get plenty of exercise and eat a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, while limiting salt and foods high in saturated fat and cholesterol.Keep diabetes under control with a proper diet and medication if necessary. Talk to your doctor before making any diet and/or exercise changes. Quit smoking – Need help? Call the NYS Smokers’ Quitline at 1-866-NY-QUITS or visit nysmokefree.com Keep your total cholesterol below 200. Limit your alcohol intake. REMEMBER…A stroke is mostly preventable and treatable. Knowing the risks and thinking F.A.S.T are important, but taking steps to prevent a stroke are just as important. For more information, visit strokeassociation.org, contact your healthcare provider or HealthLink Littauer at 736-1120. RECYCLE FOR SIGHT Donated eyeglasses help improve the sight and quality of life of children and adults around the world. Assemblyman Marc Butler, R-Newport, is collecting used eyeglasses and hearing aids at his Johnstown District Office for the Lions Club to recycle. The Lions Club sends the donated items to a center where they are cleaned and refurbished for recipients worldwide. “Eyesight and hearing impairments can result in learning difficulties for children and decreased employment opportunities for adults,” said Assemblyman Butler. “We often let our old eyeglasses pile up in a drawer,” said Butler. “Donating these used – yet usable – items can help provide the tools necessary for success to those who otherwise may go without,” said Butler. Eyeglasses (including sunglasses) and hearing aids, as well as cell phone donations for the Fulton County Domestic Violence Program, can be dropped off at Assemblyman Butler’s District Office in City Hall on 33-41 East Main Street in Johnstown during business hours Monday through Friday.

The Northville Rotary Funds Projects for Area Youth
From boat to backstop, the Northville Rotary has been busy this spring providing funds and labor towards a number of projects that benefit the youth in our area. Under the leadership of President Jeff Meuwissen, Scout Leader Bruce Hayes, Rotarians John McDevitt and Chas Owens, community members Jim Bogert and Cliff Wray, and some scouts, have been constructing a Shellback Dinghy in shop space provided by Bill Coffey. The boat will be raffled by the Scouts and Rotarians and the winner will be selected at the Rotary sponsored Woodworking and Fine Arts Weekend on Sunday, July 19th in the Northampton Town Park, South Main Street, Northville . All profits will go to Boy Scout Troop 55 in Northville. The Northville-Edinburg Little League needed a second field and backstop. Stewart’s donated $750 of the cost and the Northville Rotary provided the remaining funds to make the purchase. Last year Northville Rotarians donated the money for the NELL concession stand. At the Northville Central School, student Catherine Millington was the Northville Rotary’s selection for this year’s Rotary Youth Leadership Award. She attended monthly leadership training sessions from September through March. One of her leadership assignments was to establish an

Interact Club— a high school Rotary sponsored service club for students ages 14 - 18. With the assistance of Rotarians Dr. Leslie Ford and Cristen Shepard and advisors Mika Irie, Sara Colaneri, Kathleen Lomaestro and Shannon Fitzgerald, the now 15 member club has set their goals, activities, and budget. Ms. Millington serves as its president. Their first activity was to sponsor admission and a reception for senior citizens at the high school play, “Little Shop of Horrors”. Their first Garage Sale fundraiser netted them over $300. Rotary also provided funds for two Northville students to attend Boys’ State through the Broadalbin American Legion. A donation was given to the NCS PTO to help with prizes and t–shirts for their annual Bike-A-Thon in June; a Rotary grant to the Northville Merchant’s Association provided for materials to frame student artwork that will be displayed at the upcoming Trails Day celebration on June 6th and the Rotary’s Woodworking and Fine Arts Weekend on July 17-19. Rotary meets most Thursdays, 5:30 at the Sport Island Pub and the second Thursday at The Timeless Tavern. More information on Rotary activities can be found on northvillerotary.com. Saturday, June 6, 7:30pm ,multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter Ben-David Warner will open up the Summer Concert Series at The Revival, 1441 Main Street, Wells, NY. Ben-David Warner is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter with roots in Celtic, Classical, and Folk music. He plays a mix of Irish, Folk, and Old-Time music, as well as acoustic originals. For four years he was a member of the Celtic Americana Band Scythian, which Nashville’s Music City Roots says is “what happens when rock star charisma meets Celtic dervish fiddling.” Trained on the classical violin, Ben-David plays the guitar, banjo, fiddle, viola, and guitar dulcimer. Edinburg Family and Friends,

Please find listed below the propositions for the budget vote and election of a candidate that will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. The proposed budget will reflect a 0.75% decrease in spending.
2015-2016 Budget Vote Propositions
Proposition # 1: 2015-2016 Budget - $3,350,900 Proposition # 2: HVAC Alterations - $600,000 Board Candidate for a three (3) year term - Michael W. Evans
The Budget was passed with 82 yes votes and 14 no votes. The HVAC Alterations was passed with 79 yes votes and 13 no votes. Michael W. Evans was elected as Board of Trustees member for a three year term. Thank you to all the residents of the Edinburg Common School District for coming out to vote.
Mrs. Colson and Mr. Moore’s sixth grade class went on their annual trip to the State Capitol in Albany which was sponsored by the Edinburg Republican Club. The students were able to walk through the mall, visit the observation deck at the Corning Tower (42 floors up at an ascension rate of sixteen miles per hour), tour the New York State History Museum, and witnessed the assembly in action. The students had a wonderful discussion with Senator Hugh Farley, and will receive an autographed photo with him. Everyone had a great day learning about how our government is run.

Eagle Eye on Kindergartenby Mrs. Jones
The kindergarteners have worked very hard learning to read. They can easily read three and four letter words and are learning some new sounds such as –ch, -th, -sh, and –ng. During reading group, students are using leveled readers for instruction and for independent reading. The books increase in complexity and difficulty beginning with level A. The class has learned to read all their sight words for the year and are now writing them. Words are listed at the beginning of the week with a spelling test on Friday. During writing, the class is writing in their journals using two to three sentences. Everyone, by now, has mastered appropriate capitalization, punctuation, and end marks. They are also working on opinion and informatory samples. In math the class is working on adding and subtracting to and from 10, and representing higher numbers as groups of tens and ones. They are counting by 5’s and 10’s and are learning about odd and even numbers.

Assoc. Pastor: Rev. George HopperTime Goes Faster Every Year! When you were a kid time seemed to go so slowly, didn’t it? You longed for your birthday to arrive! And Christmas never seemed to come! And – the school year went so slowly! But, something happens between those younger years and our later years of life. Time starts going faster – at least it seems to do so. I remember thinking when our children were ages: 1, 4, 6, 8, and 10 that someday they would be 11, 14, 16, 18 and 20, but it seemed so far away! Well, those years went by a whole lot faster than I had anticipated. Now our kids are all adults, married and are even raising their own families! In Psalm 103: 15-18 it talks about how quickly life is over. In contrast it also tells us that the love of the Lord is forever for those who love the Lord and remember to serve Him! Psalm 103, verses 15-18 “As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.” In reading these verses it encourages us to make the most of our days here on earth and that there is a whole lot more than this life. It tells us that great benefits can reach our children and our grandchildren too, if we put the Lord first! WOW! What a great promise that is, if we love Jesus and put Him first in our lives! I am reminded of this even more with the upcoming graduation of our oldest grandchild Charlie (where did those years go?). My ‘words of wisdom’ to him and to all the upcoming graduates is to live your lives making good choices, striving to make a difference in this world and putting the Lord first in your life! Besides graduations coming up, June is also Dad’s month. Now is the perfect time to give special honor to our Dads, thanking them for their love and guidance, and all they mean to us. It seems that in today’s world so many people do not have a good relationship with their Dads or even know their Dads. It is so sad. But those kids can grow up and become awesome parents to their own children. We need to all work at breaking the bad cycles in life! So - congrats to you High School and College grads! And … Happy Father’s Day to all you Dads out there. My Dad has been with the Lord for many years now and I still miss him. I want to give a special Happy Father’s Day to my husband Rick, who is such a wonderful

sign a contract, we want to be able to do our job, as professionally as possible. Our referrals are largely based upon word of mouth and we do a lot of repeat generational business. I love the bonds we have forged with our customers and their families, in our 86 years in business. As I was sitting here this morning, I thought back through the last week and I have two memories, that I hope I will remember for the rest of my life. The day we got home I went to day care to pick up Acadia. She did not know I was coming to get her. I entered the back yard and she was high in the area on a swing. She saw me and screamed my name across the yard and tried to stop and jump off the swing. I kept telling her to slow down and be careful as I crossed the yard. She bravely jumped off the swing and ran across the yard. I dropped to my knees and she launched herself into my arms. She was shaking and crying and telling me how she loved and missed me. I was moved to tears and felt so blessed. I did not get a chance to see Lucas until two days ago. I was at my desk working and I heard him calling my name. He rounded the corner and ran and jumped in my lap and gave me the longest hug. Six year old boys are only known for momentary affection unless they are tired and ask to snuggle. All of you grandparents out there truly understand how the grandchildren own your heart. I know that I am loved and that I love many people back. That is what is important. When things are going crazy we need to walk away and think of those happy moments in life. I know it is hard but I tell myself and my staff to try to be polite as possible. That being said, no one deserves to be trampled on or treated poorly. There are respectful ways to tell people no. If people are miserable before we even start a job I know it is only going to get worse. Life hands you good days and bad days. We encounter nice people and rude people. We can not let other people make us unhappy. We are in charge of our day and our destiny. It is how we choose to walk through the day that is going to make the difference. Fathers Day is in a few weeks. I am excited my father will be living up here this summer. He will be surrounded by family, friends and most importantly great grandchildren. I am feeling better as I finish this article . I am loved and I am blessed. I hope you feel that way too !

The view from my couch this morning looking out over the lake is gray and dreary. I am really hoping the sun comes out because we are going to celebrate Jake Dewey’s 75 th birthday this afternoon. I am excited about seeing a lot of old friends, coming together to honor Jake. I hope it does not rain on his day! The one thing I love about this lake is the closeness of friends. We do not see each other all the time but when we do , it is like we just spoke yesterday. That is one of the perks of small town living. I am tired and out of sorts. It has been a long long week. We are back in the saddle and working long hours again. The long hours do not bother us. You do what you have to do. What does bother me is the attitude of people in the general public. I was so frustrated by yesterday afternoon that I had to do a reality check. Was it just me? Am I the problem? Has the fun just gone out of the job? I asked people who work with the general public, on the phone, about the
tone of their customers. I was relieved to hear that we were all dealing with the same thing. We are all seeing a lot of people who are loud and demanding. These people want service on their terms and are angry when they do not get their own way. It is a new wave of people looking for instant gratification. Technology has changed the world we live in, in many ways. The savvy techno people, however, do not realize that technology does not govern the world and, in construction, we do not hit a key on our computer and the job is magically done. We still have many many wonderful customers but the people who are bullies wear you down. We try to educate the public abut the services we provide and when we
