Summer is here! Let the warm weather begin! We are excited to start the summer weather but at the same time it is bittersweet
because we are losing some children that have been with us for a long time. Our KELC teachers and I hope you can attend our
preschool graduation on Friday, June 12th
at 4pm.
Reminder: If you are changing your child’s schedule for the summer please put it in writing, including the times and days of the new
schedule and when it will take effect. Thank you.

Kendal Intergenerational News:
The children have been enjoying participating in the
Fun and Fitness Week Events this past week. It
provides a great opportunity for us to cheer on our
residents. We also appreciate the encouragement
and support they give to us. We have also been
enjoying spending alternating Monday and
Thursday afternoons with them in the garden. Our
grand friends enjoy watching as we decorate the
sidewalks with chalk. We even had Janet join in as
we played a game of hop scotch.

Healthy Tidbit for the Month:
Did you know?
The Lorain County Health Department says you should
walk at least 10,000 steps a day. I have found this harder to
do in the winter, but now that the weather is nice you can go
out of your way to get your steps outside.
Challenge:
Take a walk as a family somewhere.
From the KELC Teachers:
From the Classroom:
We are finishing up our delicious Study on “Bread”. The children have learned all about how bread is made, what
types of bread there are, and who makes bread. We thoroughly enjoyed making and eating apple bread, biscuits,
corn bread, pizza and pretzels. The Kendal baker, Diana, come into the classroom to talk about how bread is made,
and Sam’s mom, Lea graciously, came into the classroom and made honey wheat bread with us. The children
LOVED it!
In May we started up our Veggie U program. This program hopes to encourage children to try and enjoy
many different vegetables by talking about the whole process of growing them. We talked about different types of
farms and the tools a farmer uses. We observed real worms, measuring and drawing them, and finally put them in
our own worm farm. Our next step will be to talk about composting. The favorite activity by far has been the veggie
tasting, with carrots being one of the top winners!
This month we are welcoming two new children into the classroom: Matthew and Nasir. They will both be
Giraffes. Starting this month we will be having fun with many different summer themes and plan on being outside
as much as possible. Please make sure your child has a summer change of clothes in the classroom.
