We are at the end of 2014-2015 school year and celebration is one of the themes for the month. First, we can celebrate our May Accountability Pillar as our results from Alberta Education are in. A summary table of our report is on the next page. The Accountability Pillar measures school success in the areas of learning, citizenship, safe and caring as well as education quality through achievement data and surveys that our students and parents complete. Our school community has much to celebrate as our school has earned the highest results in 5 out of the 6 measures which means we are in the top 5% in the province. Secondly, we are about to celebrate our Athletics and Band programs. This week we are all invited to our closing concert where for the first time, everyone in band from Grade 6 - 12 will play one song together, which is an impressive feat for the talented band and their amazing teacher Mrs. Toews. As well, we will have our athletic awards banquet. We will celebrate the teachers who coached, the students who participated and even our parents who drive. Athletics is an important piece in a students high school experience. Thirdly, we will be celebrating our final awards assemblies. The Junior / Senior awards is on June 11th. All parents are encouraged to attend as not only we will celebrate the virtue awards for our students, we will be having a special graduation presentations and an address from our graduates reflecting on their school experience at Our Lady of the Snows. This is one way our older student provide mentorship for our younger. All students in our Junior and High School will hear first hand that through participating in faith based service projects, clubs and activities, lives change. Not only for the people that we strive to help – but the people helping as well. The elementary awards are on June 26th. There is one for the Kindergarten - Grade Three and the Grades Four - Six. All awards celebrations have a year end slide show and are always meaningful experiences. Our final celebration will of course be graduation. The Liturgy and Graduation Celebration take place on June 25th. Consider attending with your junior high or high school child, as listening to our speakers, addresses from local leaders and our Valedictorians all contain life lessons that can be motivating for students in younger grades and help them see where their education is leading. All the best in the summer month and again – a great school is made better by great support and involvement of our parent community. Blessing for a wonderful summer with friends and family. teacher appreciation week. Thank you to Kathy for organizing the massage therapist and to all parents who

contributed. In May, an email went out asking parents for possible rental opportunities for a new teacher

coming to OLS in September. I want to thank all the families that responded to that request as the new

Our Lady of the Snows Athletic Banquet The banquet is on Thursday, June 4th, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The dinner will be from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. and

the awards presentations will follow. Our School Council will be donating the hamburgers and hot dogs for the evening as

well as assisting with some of the side dishes, but the remainder of the dinner is a potluck style affair. We have divided up

different dishes based on grades, just so we do not get an overwhelming amount of desserts and no salads or side dish-

es. We hope to see everyone there, and please have students speak to their homeroom teacher about what dish they are

able to bring to the banquet.

We are asking for help with the following and please refrain from any products with nuts, as we are a nut-free school:

Grade 7 – Side Dishes - such as rice, pasta, potatoes, etc.

Grade 8 – Salads and Appetizers

Grade 9 - Desserts and Fruit

Grade 10 - Appetizers - such as chicken wings, veggies and dip, nachos,

hummus, breads, cheese and crackers, etc.

Grade 11 - 12- Drinks - such as juice, iced tea, chocolate milk, pop

Students and parents are reminded to bring their own plates and utensils for this event to cut down on the amount of dis-

posable plates used.

Elementary Sports Day We will be having a Sports Day on Wednesday, June 24th, 2015. This exciting event will be held in the afternoon on the

OLS field, starting at 1:10 p.m. when the students return from recess. We will be splitting the students into multi-age

teams, and will have them travel through a series of 10 sport’s stations. Each group will be assigned a colour for the day.

Students can wear anything that colour. (e.g. t-shirt, shorts, something in their hair, etc.). The students will get a small

frozen treat at the end of the day.

We will require parent volunteers at each station in order to help coordinate the games and help make the day run smooth-

ly. We are hoping to have a minimum of 2 parents at each station, so would therefore require at least 20 volunteers. If you

are able to volunteer for the afternoon contact Mrs. Shakeshaft at [email protected] by Wednesday, May

17th, 2015. You can also call her at 403-609-3699 ext. 128. Please provide your name, e-mail address and phone num-

ber. All volunteers will meet in the office at 12:00 p.m. in order to set up the field.
