HEALTH KITS FOR VIRGINIA ANNUAL CONFERENCE -this year the Bermuda Hundred UMW has committed to making 350 health kits for UMCOR to deliver to areas in the United States and around the world where they are the most needed. You worked with us in the past to make these kits and we are asking for your assistance again this year. Thank you for helping us collect enough items to make 200 kits so far, only 150 more to go. This is a very important mission project for our chapter and we would love to have your hands and hearts work with us to

make our vision of the 350 kits possible. We will continue to need the following items to make our goal and the collection box is downstairs in the foyer for you to deposit your items:

1 hand towel (at least 15"x 25"), 1 washcloth, 1 comb (large & sturdy, not pocket/picks), 1 metal nail file or nail clipper, 1 bath size soap (3 oz. or larger), 1 toothbrush (adult size), 6 band-aids (3/4 x 1) and one gallon plastic bags with zip closures. IF YOU DON'T HAVE TIME TO SHOP BUT WANT TO HELP, WE WILL NEED CONTRIBUTIONS FOR TOOTHPASTE - $1.00 PER TUBE. Because of timing, storage and distance, we can't put toothpaste in our kits but rather have to leave that to UMCOR to purchase. Again, a big thank you to the men and women of the Hopewell Moose Lodge for their wonderful contribution of $600.00 to help purchase items for the kits. They are such wonderful partners helping with so many of our projects.

YARD SALE - By the time you read this newsletter we will have completed another successful yard sale and raised $1,550 for our many mission projects. Thank you to all of you who donated items, worked for two days to make the sale a success and those of you that came to purchase all the many "treasures". We appreciate your support very much. If you didn't get a chance to participate in this yard sale, our next one is already scheduled for September 30th - bring your items on Friday, the 29th and we open for business at 8AM on Saturday, September 30th. This time we will be looking for warm, fall/winter clothing. Start cleaning out the closets now.

NEXT MEETING - our next meeting will be June 19th at 7PM in the Grundy Parlor. Ditty Mooney will be presenting our program for the evening - "A Time To Hope: Communities Challenging Mass Incarceration". You will find this program very interesting and informative as you ponder what it must be like to live every day for years in a 6' x 9' cell. Come and learn more.

We were thrilled at our May meeting to raise $275.00 for our Candle Burning Ceremony where do nations were made "in honor of" or "in memory of" friends and loved ones. All of these funds will be used for mission work around the world. Added to all the funds from other Virginia UMW chapters, thousands of dollars will be sent around the world to make a difference in the lives of so many children, youth and women. Thank you all so much for your generosity.

There is always an open invitation to women of the church to join us at our meetings or come work on one of our mission projects. We would love to have you in our UMW group.

Thank you for all your support and we'll see you in church, Doris Morefield, UMW President

Missions

I would like to thank everyone who participated in the backpack program for the three elementary schools, Enon, Elizabeth Scott and Marguerite Christian. We finish on the third week in June and will resume the program in the beginning of the new school year. This program is not possible without your support!

Earn. Save. Give. May 2017 – Continued Stewardship Success

BHUMC,

Great News for May again – we have been able to fully fund our apportionments for the month and we remain 100% current towards our goal for a 5th consecutive year. Thank you for all your giving! It is hard to believe, but the summer months are here and it’s time to ask each of us to reconnect with our goal of consistency to commitment. As we are busy with schedules, travel and the ups and downs of summer – it is so very important that we remain consistent in our giving in order to stay the course of another fully funded year. Please do all you can to give of all God has blessed you with – not just with monetary sharing, but also of your time and talents – each week, each month, with regular consistency.

Again, thank you for all the contributions in the past and for your future sharing.

The Regular Reminder – WE NEED YOU – if anyone is interested is joining the stewardship com-mittee, please jump in – we would love to expand the team in 2017 (see/contact Dave Steinbraker to inquire about becoming part of the Stewardship committee).

Thank you to all and In God’s Grace,

Your stewardship committee Dave Steinbraker, Dorothy Mooney, Ann McNinch, Charles Woodard and Bill Talley V
