Cafes strive for an atmosphere that is more like a coffee house or neighborhood party than a clinical program. Typically, guests are not asked their diagnosis and activities are structured to support and engage individuals with a range of cognitive needs, including those with changes in their thinking or memory, mild cognitive impairment or dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease or other disorders. For care partners, the cafe is a muchneeded break and a chance to have fun together while making new friends who understand “what we are going through.” The goal is for everyone to enjoy socialization, support and respite from disease and disability. The Ipswich Council on Aging, in partnership with Senior Care, the Ipswich Public Library and the Coburn Charitable Society are pleased to offer a monthly “Ipswich Memory Café” beginning in July on the 2nd Monday of the month from 10AM to Noon.     Traveling Chef: Tuesday, June 19 at Noon

    $3.00/pp. Meal includes turkey with gravy, cranberry sauce, whipped potato, carrots, diced pears and ice cream sundae bar. Come early & stay late for two good programs before and after lunch.

    Katie Shannon, producer of the Cape Ann TV show “Taking Care of You with Mrs. Magoo,” will join us with some ideas on managing in the kitchen with vision loss. Katie has been legally blind since the age of 10 and currently lives in Ipswich with her husband and two dogs.     WINDRUSH FARM, BOXFORD - Tuesday, June

    26. Visit this special farm which offers therapeutic

    riding classes for children and adults with special

    needs. They have 25 gentle therapy horses to meet

    and wonderful trails to explore. Van leaves at 9:45am.

    Enjoy lunch at the Bradford Tavern after the visit.

    There is no cost for this trip.

    FRIDAY AFTERNOON VAN TRIPS

    The COA van will be taking passengers to various shopping areas every Friday afternoon at Noon and return around 4:00 pm. The charge is $2.00 for a round-trip ride. Call to reserve your space on the van. The ability to be left unattended is required.
