Please drive cautiously at all times when traveling through our community. Please abide by our posted stop signs and the speed limit within Islesworth, which is 20 mph. Here are a few eye-opening facts associated with driving speed. At 20 mph, a vehicle is traveling at roughly 29 feet per second. A driver's actual response time, the time it takes to respond to a hazard, is an average of 1.6 seconds before a driver's reaction takes place or when brakes are actually applied. So, a vehicle would travel approximately 46 feet after a hazard is perceived by a driver before evasive action is actually taken. Then, there is also the added distance needed for the vehicle to stop. The faster the speed of travel, the stopping distances always increase, so please keep that in mind. Board of Directors Islesworth at Martin Downs HOA

(From the President’s Desk, Cont’d)

Vehicles speeding in our community have been a continuous ongoing problem. I'm pleased to report that our Board is working on a speed countermeasures project to decrease the number of vehicles traveling at high speeds through our community. The countermeasures will also deter and discourage cut-through traffic by non-residents. Here’s a parking reminder. Vehicles that park repeatedly in violation of our overnight parking rules will be stickered by security for tow at the vehicle owner’s expense. Islesworth has a new towing vendor, Kauff’s Towing. Please park or have guests park in compliance with our parking rules. Have a wonderful summer and safe travels wherever your vacation destinations may be. Joseph R. Diliberto

Architectural Review Committee

An online ARC submittal form is now available on the new website.

Select “For Residents” then “Online Forms.”

As we head into hurricane season, be aware of potential schemes and scams. Insurance work is a hefty source of revenue for some roofing companies; it’s also fertile ground for scammers. Be cautious of roofing companies that offer to replace your roof through your insurance and even waive the deductible. A great question to ask yourself is, “If your contractor is willing to defraud an insurance company, how likely are they to defraud you?”

THE NEXT ARC Meeting is Monday, June 17th, at Panera’s

The Islesworth.org is Complete !!

The Islesworth.org update is complete! Please take the time to follow the instructions in your welcome e-mail to log in and access the new site. If you did not get a welcome e-mail, please let Carol Paprotna know via e-mail at [email protected]. She will update your e-mail address and send a new welcome e-mail to you. The new website also has an app. This app will allow you to view our calendar and get notices right on your phone! The new site allows you to upload ARC forms directly to the ARC Committee. Under “For Residents,” look for “Online Forms,” then click on “ARC Form.” When submitting your ARC form, pay attention to the dates of the ARC Committee meetings. Meet Your Neighbor: The Florida River Otter

By Mark & Diane Tomasik

The recent sightings of a river otter near Islesworth pond prompted us to learn more about

these creatures.

Here are 10 facts about the river otter based on information from the Florida Fish

and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Department of the Interior:

_ Found throughout Florida, except the Keys.

_ Live in burrows, often under tree roots, on the banks of rivers, creeks, lakes, ponds and swamps.

_ Usually are nocturnal.

_ Feed primarily on crawfish and fish. Also eat crustaceans, amphibians, reptiles, birds, insects and small mammals.

_ Weigh 15 to 30 pounds.

_ Typically eat 15 percent of their body weight each day.

_ Communicate with a variety of bird-like chirps and calls.

_ Their whiskers aid them in locating prey.

_ Can swim underwater up to 6 mph and for 2 to 3 minutes at a time.

_ Appear cuddly but have strong teeth and a powerful bite. Can be aggressive, so keep

a safe distance of at least 50 yards and never feed an otter.
