Check Your Backpacks for Hurricane Season

As we prepare for the 2019Hurricane season, it is also agood time to check our CERTBackspacks. Besidesupdating the Backpack’sperishable contents (water, food, snacks, batteries, etc.),it is a good idea the wearrange their contents all inthe same manner. This way, when in the field and workingwith someone else’sBackpack, we have an ideawhere we can find the neededsupplies, without taking theBackpack apart searching.

We ask that you please follow guidelines in the picture at left when packing yourBack Packs.

July 4th Fund Raiser Being PlannedRandy Sleet has embarked on an ambitious fund raising event for our CERT thisyear. CERT will be working with Mark to host a community barbecue event aroundthe July 4th holiday. Randy with Mark are planning for entertainment, food andbeverages, and activities that will raise hurricane awareness with our residents, promote our CERT program, and recruit for our CERT. Another theme for this eventis to raise awareness to the pollution caused by disposable plastic containers andutensils. We are hoping for maximum attendance by CERT members so thecommunity can see us, and talk with us about our CERT program. CERT membersare asked to purchase tickets for the event as further support for the team. About$6 of each ticket price is a donation to CERT.

This Will Be our Major fund raising event of the year, and yourassistance is need in make this a successful event.

Please contact Randy Sleet at 760-450-4847, or by emailto [email protected] if you want to help or have any questions.

Neighborhood Grant Initiative Input NeededWe will have an opportunity to apply for a grant of up to $10,000 from SarasotaCounty later this year. Your input regarding what equipment or supplies should bepurchased, or what training should be paid for is requested. Keep in mind that this isa matching grant, so we will either need to raise half of the money asked for in thegrant, or we will need to perform some number of volunteer hours, valued at$15/hour, to qualify for the grant.

This two hour coursewill be followed by a short training session on the proper way to conduct a gridsearch as a further CERT skills builder.
