Club Fitting at WindykeJimmy Rainwater, PGA

Assistant Golf Professional

Club fitting at Windyke Country club has always been a key component of our player development and game enjoyment efforts. A custom club fitting with one of Windyke’s golf professionals can help a player reach the next level, learn more about their game and their equipment, and enjoy the game with more confidence. With the latest equipment and more than 30 years combined club fitting experience and knowledge, we are able to help any player of any skill level to create and play a set that is built for them. If you are looking to gain yardage off the tee, improve your shot shape, or tighten your shot dispersion, we can help. Give us a call in the golf shop for more information or to schedule a session with one of our PGA Professionals.

Father’s Day presents a great opportunity to let your father know how much you appreciate him. More than any gift you could buy, a simple “thanks” or “I Love You” could make his day, week or even year. Why is it so hard to find the time to do that? Another hard thing to do is select the appropriate gift; one that he will like and use. Our Pro Shop has unlimited merchandise that your fathers love! We know this because not only do we know them but we like the same types of things that many of them like. Please take a moment to visit your golf shop, look at the new merchandise and let our golf professional’s help you find the perfect gift for your father. If you cannot make up your mind, buy him a gift certificate that he can use at his leisure. Remember, at Windyke there are no long lines, no horrible mall traffic and no parking problem. We have a friendly, courteous and knowledgeable sales staff. In fact, this is a great place not only to find a Father’s Day present, but to spend Father’s Day as well. For this reason, on June 21 you may bring your father, grand-father, son, grandson, daughter or granddaughter for a complimentary round of golf. The normal age restriction will be in effect for the regulation courses; must be at least 12 years old and accompanied by an adult on weekends. However, our Executive Par Three course is open to all players.

We look forward to seeing you on Father’s Day.

MEMBER – MEMBER 2-MAN Best ball The warm season is upon us and golf is becoming more available, creating inspiration to get out and play golf. The Member-Member 2-Man is a perfect opportunity to hook up with a pal and play in a friendly golf competition. The best ball format allows you to test your skills while playing your own ball.

The Member-Member will be held on June 20Saturday (West Course) format is Best Ball. Seniors, 60 and over, play white tees. Seniors, 75 and over, play red tees. The Championship flight will play the blue tees except those 60 and over which will play gold tees and those 75 and over will play white tees. All other players play gold tees. Ladies will play the red tees except those who have an index of 7.5 and below and they will play the white tees. Senior Ladies with a 20.0 index or higher may play the red/silver combo tees. Tee time start from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Eligibility: Event open to Full, Intermediate, Junior, and Weekday Membership Classifications. All other memberships may sign up two weeks prior pending availability.

Handicaps: Players must comply with Windyke Handicap Committee requirements. Entry fee is $125 per player and includes cart.

**Weekday and Executive members pay an additional $55 fee for the weekend**

Teams will be pre-flighted based on their course handicap from the June 17 revision. We handicap using the following format because this format negates any lopsided advantage of a very low handicapper playing with a very high handicapper. If you think there is a special combination that provides an advantage then USE IT! Our goal in flighting is to bring parity. We want to try to offer every team an even chance of winning. Most flights will consist of 10-12 teams, depending on the range of handicaps and total signups.

Team handicaps will be the total of both players’ handicap minus 1/2 the difference.***Handicaps are only used for flighting***

Listed below is a prize estimate based on 100 players:Prizes per Flight:1st ………… $500 team2nd..…….… $400 team3rd ………… $300 team4th ……… $200 team

I was just working with a student and said a few things that are worth reiterating. Probably the one thing a student doesn’t want to hear is “you need to get worse before you can get better.” I like to use another phrase that communicates that message with a bit of humor. “I know these swing concepts may be strange and difficult, but what have you got to lose!” Humor definitely has a place in golf swing improvement. Look, improvement is difficult, but the status quo isn’t good enough to not seek out help. Besides, good coaching can help the transition become enjoyable. You may not play great, but you probably won’t play worse. The possibility of playing your best can only come from swing changes, and Luke and I are after that highest goal.

The key to reaching your best golf is weekly application of the drills. If you follow the training regimen, your skill set will enlarge and the new motion will become your own. Small lessons packages allow us to get the main concepts across to the student. If he/she is diligent in training properly from there, good things can happen. Larger packages allow us to guide students through common pitfalls that slow development down. Large packages also allow us to diversify swing changes in all four aspects of the game: putting, short game, irons, and driver.

Come give us a try this spring and let us point you in the right direction. Because of the difficulty of the game of golf, it always best to have a coach on your side.

Score Posting ReminderWith the tournament season upon us and life starting to become more and more normal everyday, now is a good time to remind everyone about posting scores. According to the USGA each and every round played should be posted. This is the only way that an accurate handicap can be established. The system needs to see both your high and low scores even when you are not playing in ideal conditions such as lift, clean and place. When you sign up for an event that uses your handicap you will be subjected to a review of your rounds played vs rounds posted. This is to ensure that everyone is playing on a level playing field and to create fair conditions for all. If you have any questions regarding posting your scores or how it all works feel free to contact me or any one of the golf professional staff. ~ Brent Ratliff

It’s been a challenging few months. But in our continued efforts to get back to normal you’ll start to see some of the club favorites reappear. Daily Specials will slowly work their way back into the bar and grill start-ing with the return of the Catfish Plate on Fridays. Beginning in June there are important changes taking place for a trial run. If they become popular we will look at continuing them,Saturday a la carte Brunch has been such a hit we will be offering it on Sunday’s from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. in addition to our lunch menu.

For the dinner crowd, we will be offering the full Bar and Grill Menu in the bar, dining room and on the patio until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday nights in June.

As always reservations preferred but not required so we can provide the best service possible. Lastly, don’t forget the pool is up and running! It’s going to be a great summer. We look forward to seeing all of you out here at your club. Reach out to me with comments, questions or suggestions. Thanks [email protected]

This will be the 12th Annual Par 3 Open. We will host this fun and exciting event on Saturday, July 18. We will tee off of #1 and #10 at 2:00. The cost of this event will be $30. This event will be open to any type of member and all age groups. Everyone will play the ball from the same set of tee boxes to ensure that we find the very best Par 3 player. If you are that player, then you will be immortalized in Windyke lore with your name proudly engraved on our Par 3 Open trophy.

Many of our junior golfers who play this course every day during the summer are going to be hard to beat. To all of you guys out there who think that you have out grown the Par 3, think again. So make this event the motiva-tion for you to get out there and do a little practice on the Par 3. You never know, you just might find that a little short game practice will make all of the difference in your normal game. Plus, this is a Windyke Cup Points event with two flights.

Putting:Are You Practicing the Correct Way? Luke Reilly • Assistant Golf Professional

There is a reason that we drive for show, but putt for the dough. The strokes we make on the putting green are always the last strokes we make during the round and play a huge factor in our scoring. Too often, I hear golfers saying that they hit the ball great, but they couldn’t make any putts!

At this point I ask them a simple question: how do you practice your putting? Most people respond by saying they roll a few putts before they go play, or practice a few 3, 6 and 10 foot putts. As a teacher, I want to yell at them because that isn’t actually practicing. There is much more to putting than rolling a few putts on the practice green. With putting, we need to practice our: • Pre-shot Routine and Set-Up This will help you develop a smooth and calm rhythm over the ball. This is a great way to help you stay relaxed and confident over your putts out on the course.• Speed/ Distance Control Walk off your putts. Knowing the distance of your putts and factoring in the slope will give you a better idea of how hard you need to hit your putt. • Club Path Two tee gate drill: This drill will help you avoid pushing/pulling putts and help you develop a more consistent stroke!• Reading Greens Pick a hole on the practice green. Place two tees where you think the straightest uphill and downhill putt are and two tees where you think the most breaking putts are. Hint: The tees should be at 12, 3, 6, and 9 on a clock. This is a great way to improve your ability to read greens.

If we increase the amount of quality time we spend working on improving the consistency of our pre-shot routine and putting stroke, we should begin to avoid those nasty three putts and make more birdie putts! If you want to improve your putting on the course, you have to improve the way you practice first! If you are ready to improve your putting, come find me in the golf shop and we can get started!

If your outdoor experience is hindered by mosquitos, I have the solution for you. My family and I moved into our current home during the summer months and immediately noticed an over-whelming amount of mosquito activity. We literally could not let our young children outside at all. Something had to change.

I started using the same monthly treatments our competitors offer, but found that the treatments were short-lived, especially after rain. I was not satisfied with this for my family, and I knew I could never sell this form of treatment to any of my customers.

When a friend told me about misting systems for mosquito control, I was interested and began researching the chemistry, safety features and product manufacturers on the market. I finally found MistAway and installed the system at my home.

MistAway is a misting system that works on an automatic time schedule set to attack and deter mosquitoes, providing continual control. I mounted my system very discreetly under the eaves of my home and along the fence in my backyard. Within the first day of using MistAway, we noticed an immediate difference. My kids could play on our lawn, and I could get back to using the grill without being bothered at all! Surprisingly, we also do not have any ants, wasps, flies, or spiders in or around our home anymore. Since installing the system, we do not have any need for a pest or termite control company.

MistAway is the best answer to your mosquito problems. Over the last several years, I have in-stalled numerous systems, and every customer absolutely loves it. The average cost to improve your quality of life with MistAway is $4500. Find out more at MistAway.com and contact us to schedule a consultation and free quote for your home.

REDWHITE&BLUEJULY 4TH 2020 • WINDYKE WEST COURSE

PLAY STARTS AT 7 a.m. • ENTRY FEE: $125 • Food on course

This is always one of our most popular events of the year, as it almost always fills up with a waiting list to get in. Are you a new member of the club? Have you played with the same players for the last 20 years and are looking for a change? Have you been a member here, but do not know too many other members? Do you love the thrill of competition? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of those questions, then the annual Red, White and Blue Handicap Scramble is a great opportunity for you. If you have never played this would be a great year to start. There are many ways to enter this event. #1. You can sign up as a single player and we will computer pair you with other golfers. This pairing system allows players an opportunity to step outside their normal group and meet some new friends. #2. You can sign up with a friend and we will find a twosome to pair with you. This will allow each of you to feel comfortable and still have an opportunity to meet some new friends.#3. You can sign up with a pairing of your choosing. That’s the best part of this handicap scramble format. We can put together a highly competitive event based on the member’s preferences for playing. We will start tee times at 7:00 and will go through 2:00.

Guidelines are as follows:• Four person handicap scramble format • Members only.• Make your own team or sign up as an individual and we will pair you.• Each team’s handicap is based on the following formula using a players USGA index:

1 - 5 = 4 points 6 - 10 = 3 points Add up the total points and 11 - 15 = 2 points subtract from 10. That will 16.0 + = 1 point will be the team handicap.

• If you do not have a full team, we can help you find additional players.• Tee Box assignments: 0.9 index & below will play the BLUE tees 1.0- 14.9 index will play the GOLD tees 15.0-21.9 index will play the WHITE tees 22.0 index & above will play the RED tees • Tee Box assignments for Seniors(60+) and Jrs.
