Photonics in life sciences

At the joint exhibition stand “Photonics in Life Sciences,” projects funded by the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) presented their current research activities and product developments.

Main topics: Chip-based point-of-care (POC) diagnostics to determine infectious pathogens and their resistances

High-resolution microscopy for cancer diagnosis Photonic-supported on-site analysis in food production Organized by the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technologies in Jena on behalf of the BMBF (project sponsor: VDI Technology Center)

The supporting program of LASER World of PHOTONICS distinguishes itself through its consistent application orientation and received 96% positive visitor ratings. New photonics applications in medical engineering and life sciences are the expert presentations’ focus area. In 2019, approximately 2,042 audience members attended to learn about current industrial applications, challenges and solution approaches in photonics.

Application Panels

In 2019, approximately 530 audience members attended the series of lectures on the latest research and development results in biophotonics.

Congress focal point Biophotonics and Medical Engineering: ECBO(European Conferences on Biomedical Optics)

This application-oriented conference as part of the World of Photonics Congress is organized by SPIE and OSA—The Optical Society. The ECBO is currently considered the largest European event for scientists, researchers, engineers and clinicians who specialize in photonics applications in medicine and the life sciences. Everything from basic research and the development of medical equipment to concrete application examples is discussed here.

Almost 600 conference participants attended the ECBO lectures in 2019.

As the industry’s leading scientific platform, the World of Photonics Congress offers extensive insights into the world of photonics while acting as an interfacebetween theory and practice. For 63% of all exhibitors at the fair, congress participants are an important target group, and 58% stated that they mainly want to address visitors from science and research with their exhibit.
