According to Sugar Land police spokesman Doug Adolph, the credit cards were stolen earlier that evening from a van parked outside 24 Hour Fitness, just an exit away on the freeway. Adolph said a man who was at the fitness center told police that someone broke into his locker and took his keys, followed by a burglary of vehicle in the fitness center parking lot in which his wallet was stolen. As a vendor of services, professional and otherwise, any outstanding tax or fee indebtedness owed to the county in all likelihood will prohibit you from being awarded a bid or contract. In one of its latest actions, the Fort Bend County Commissioners approved a policy involving contracting with a person indebted to it. Fort Bend County currently has a policy similar to it, said a county official, and it has to do with using federal funds. At the county level, now that this policy is in place, road materials, fuel, office supplies, “whatever we buy before we award the contract, we check the status of that vendor’s tax payments to the county, (and) we make sure they are not indebted to the county before we award them,” said Gilbert Jalomo of the county’s purchasing department. Fort Bend County’s tax office is reported to have been working on the matter and it helped to develop a form. Dear Editor,

I understand that it is against the law to use cell phones in school zones in Ft Bend County especially in Sugar Land and Missouri City. My concern is that I have heard that there is no law or rule forbidding phone usage in the Q while children are being dropped off and picked up.

I feel that this is where phone usage must be curtailed. I have seen people in the Q who are so distracted that they run over the curb next to where children are walking.

Why is this law not enforced on FBISD school property as it is on city streets?

J. White *Editor's note: The "Q"

mentioned in Mr. White's letter is explained ..…the Q is the line of cars that drop off students in the morning in front of the schools and pick them up in the afternoon. It is typical that the Q is sometimes a quarter of a mile long during peak drop off and pick up times.

We have watched with amuse-ment as soon-to-be-former Chief Deputy Craig Brady spent over half a million dollars and four years in an attempt to get elected sheriff of Fort Bend County. This is seven times the amount of money ever spent on a politi-cal race in Fort Bend County.

He got 34.48% of the pri-mary vote.

His opponent, Pct. 4 Constable Troy Nehls, got 54.38% which isn’t shabby considering he couldn’t openly campaign until 4 1/2 months earlier, and then only if a November, 2011 con-stitutional amendment passed allowing him and other office-holders to announce in January.

Not only did Craig Brady spend 1/2 million dollars to get elected to a job that paid less than his current job, he solic-ited and took money from ques-tionable sources, although to be fair some rather loyal upstand-ing citizens also contributed big bucks in the waning days of the campaign. One wonders what they were thinking, when for example, in his last contribu-tions filing, we learn that Gary Aber gave him $500, former Precinct 3 commissioner can-didate Michael Baldwin con-tributed $2,100, and Marsha Bielstein, wife of Judge Sandy Bielstein, gave him $2,500.

His father, Dr. Kenneth Brady, gave him another $5,000, and Jamal Daniel, a Fulshear area developer, who offices in Houston, gave him $20,000.

Fall Creek Plaza 2, LP con-tributed $1,400, (that’s a busi-ness and it’s still illegal to accept contributions from those in Texas. I guess I’m going to have to complain to the Texas Ethic Commission about this one). Gutierrez Auto Parts threw in $3,000, (another business, another complaint to the TEC-ohh I just love to pour over campaign filings).

EA McCune gave $500, Jack Molho gave $500 (I wonder if Donna knows?), Todd Richey contributed $1,500, Reuben Stafford shelled out $1,000, and R.H. Stevens, Jr. gave $500. James Winne contributed $2,500, and David Vogelsang ponied up $5,000.

Brady’s big bucks didn’t translate into big votes and on Wednesday after the elec-tion, he announced that he was going to throw his support to the Democratic candidate. Brady has previously been a Republican precinct chair but didn’t run again. Maybe he was afraid he would lose that race also. Wags have said “Big deal. He’s taking 10 votes to the

Democratic candidate.”It’s not fair to make fun of him

for losing but so many people have come forward and told of how he had bullied them for the past four years. Those chickens have come home to roost as someone said he was joining the POO party, as in Political Opportunist Organization.

There were many mistakes his campaign made, not the least of which was the fact that he had no experienced and reliable cam-paign manager. Some of his vol-unteers got on Facebook on an almost daily basis and although the sheriff’s department has rules against that sort of thing, they aired their dirty laundry in pub-lic, calling each other disloyal and snakes.

In addition, Brady’s fam-ily may have helped him with money but some of their cam-paign efforts had the opposite effect. One citizen called me and said she had Nehls’ signs in her yard when a Craig Brady rela-tive knocked on her door and demanded she take them down as “this is my son’s territory!” the homeowner was told.

Brady fired a couple of popu-lar bailiffs on flimsy reasons not long before the vote. In fact, it was just enough time for the ex-employees to mount opposition among their neighbors, relatives, and friends.

Nine years ago after I revealed a lot of embarrassing things about the sheriff’s department and its chief deputy, Craig Brady accused us of lying. He had extricated his own sons from some legal concerns and we chastised him for interfering and using his police power. He had his then 17-year-old son sue us as the burden of proof was easier for the son, Brady being a public figure and all.

We eventually lost that suit although no one ever proved that we lied. The case is under appeal. We didn’t lie then and we haven’t lied since.

When you are running for sheriff, you don’t have the largest circulated newspaper sued, par-ticularly if you have questionable actions that can be written about.

Particularly if you have bul-lied your way through life.

It was offered to me to have the suit dropped if I fired LeaAnne Klentzman. You see, LeaAnne had worked at the sheriff’s department for many years. She even had run for sheriff. Milton Wright’s first official act (after hiring Craig Brady to really run the sheriff’s department) was to fire LeaAnne Klentzman. After that, few women were hired or promoted. To say the Fort Bend

County Sheriff’s department had a war on women was an under-statement.

Those old boys haven’t learned that hiring women means you won’t have to do even half the work.

Sheriff Wright even took to the street to campaign for his chief deputy. He worked at the polls at the main Fort Bend County Library in Richmond. Of course to say he worked was an under-statement. He spent the entire day sitting under a shade tree and as far as we can tell, didn’t con-tact one voter. But it was just as well. He couldn’t find anyone to play dominos with him anyway. To see his day, go here. www.juanitajean.com/2012/05/29/election-night-giggles/

Every thing that could be done wrong in this political race was done.

Of course, the old boys over at the sheriff’s department aren’t through jerking Fort Bend County around. And now that Brady has lost, he, like Hitler flooding the subway tunnels in the closing days of WWII and killing his own people, is trying to do that to the taxpayers of Fort Bend County.

Brady and bunch are trying to figure out a way to put everyone on civil service, including him-self, so he can’t be “fired.” Can you imagine Nehls having to run a sheriff’s department with Craig Brady still around?

So Craig et al is trying to figure a way to promote every detective to sergeant, meaning they will have to promote every lieutenant to what? General?

What it really means is a sub-stantial raise for all his buddies and a kick in the rear for Fort Bend taxpayers.

The only ones standing in the way of all this are the com-missioners and County Attorney Roy Cordes. Since I don’t think they know what they are doing about civil service and are not very knowledgeable about the subject, they’ll probably get away with it. Much like they got away with the $200,000 “anony-mous” donation to the sheriff’s department.

Jugheads!Yep, they need some women.

They may have to put up with a lot of yapping, but things will run smoother, faster, more legal, and cheaper. Ever tried to feed a family of four on $15 per week?

Is there any help for ringing in the ears?

The Better Hearing Institute has joined the American Tinnitus Association in increasing awareness in using

hearing aids as a treatment to reduce tinnitus or ringing in the ears. Tinnitus is described as the perception of sound that has no external source. Tinnitus can be intermittent or constant. It can be in both ears or only one ear. Tinnitus sufferers describe the sounds as ringing, buzzing, humming, or cricket like sounds. Exposure to loud noise is the most common cause of tinnitus. Tinnitus is usually associated with hearing loss. There is no know cure for tinnitus but by wearing hearing aids amplification of background sounds reduce the prominence of the tinnitus. Taking the focus off of the tinnitus seems to give most tinnitus sufferers some relief.

Can a repair facility save me from paying my deductible?

An honest repair shop will always say “no” to saving deductibles. Your insurance policy is a con-

tract between you and your insur-ance carrier. It basically says that if you have a collision loss, you are responsible for the first portion of repairs (your deductible) and the insurance company will pay the rest. If the final repair cost is less, you’re still responsible for the predetermined deductible amount. Any reduction should correctly go back to the insurance company. There are legitimate ways to reduce your cost. An appearance allowance (credit towards your deductible usually for minor cosmetic repairs not completed) is one way but must be consulted with your insurance company. Be wary of the repair shop that offers to save you your deductible. Are they complet-ing all repairs or is your safety being jeopardized with an inadequate repair?

I’m thinking about using a DIY kit to refinish my tub. What results should I expect?

Do-it-yourself bathtub refinishing kits are marketed at home improvement centers as an easy way to fix a worn or damaged bathtub. Unfortunately, these kits more often than not lead to

disappointing results and eventual professional refinishing. We at Miracle Method know, as nearly 20% of the bathtubs we are re-doing are an amateur attempt at tub refinishing.

DIY kits use a hydrofluoric acid wash to etch the porcelain tub surface to help the new epoxy stick. Hydrofluoric acid etching is not only old technology, but can be dangerous. While epoxy is durable, it chips easily and eventually turns yellow. This method also often leads to eventual peeling of the new surface.

Miracle Method will professionally repair and refinish your tub to a glossy like-new look and feel. Our process includes removing the existing caulk, a thorough two step cleaning of the tub, and repairing any chips. Miracle Method’s non-acid MM-4 bonding agent will ensure the new coats of high tech acrylic urethane will adhere and provide an even surface, and a final buffing and polishing will make your tub shine like it did the day it was installed.

Miracle Method offers a five year warranty – that’s something you won’t find with a DIY kit!

At Classic Chevrolet we always get ask the question “What are the Benefits of Nitrogen in Tires”

Compressed nitrogen has long been used to inflate the tires of race cars and aircraft. Regular air is approximately 78 percent nitrogen, 21 percent oxygen and 1 percent water vapor. The oxygen and water vapor can degrade tires and wheels, shortening tire life. Nitrogen

inflation is now available from many commercial and passenger car dealers.

Slower Inflation Pressure Loss - A tire inflated with regular compressed air will lose about one and a half to two psi of pressure per month. Most of the pressure loss is due to oxygen molecules permeating through the tire rubber. Replacing the air with 95 to 98 percent nitrogen reduces the pressure loss to less than one-half psi per month. Since many drivers do not regularly check their air pressure, nitrogen inflation will allow their tires to maintain proper inflation levels longer. The major benefit of properly inflated tires is optimum

Oxygen can cause oxidation of tire rubber and corrosion of metal and alloy wheels. The water vapor in air can accelerate these processes, especially under pressure like the compressed air in a tire. The corrosive effects of both oxygen and water vapor are multiplied when a tire overheats due to under-inflation. Nitrogen is an inert gas and will not cause corrosion or rust. Nitrogen also will not degrade the seals in air valves, further preventing pressure loss.

Improved Tire Life - Using nitrogen to pressurize tires has benefits over regular air for tire longevity. The greatest threats to tire life are heat and uneven tread wear. Both of these result from improper tire pressure; using nitrogen will maintain a more even tire pressure over the life of a tire. Also, the rubber inner lining of a tire will degrade over time in an air environment. As the rubber lining degrades, air pressure will be lost faster, accelerating the effects of under-pressurization. Nitrogen will not cause the inner lining of a tire to degrade, extending its useful life. According to the Innovative Balancing website, inflating tires with nitrogen can extend tire life up to 25 percent.

Classic Chevrolet Nitrogen for Life - Classic Chevrolet will install Nitrogen in your tires for $39.95 for life. That means when you purchase Nitrogen for your Vehicle, all of your tires that you purchase from Classic Chevrolet Sugar Land for the life of that vehicle we will put nitrogen in them for free.

I’ve heard that video on my website will improve my search engine rankings. Is this true? How do I start?

It is true. Google especially loves video and for other search engines, it’s an element that positively impacts website exposure.

So, let’s get started. The first step for any video project is to determine your target audience and the effect you want when someone sees the video. Do you want to be called for more information or do you want the audience to feel more comfortable about your product or service? Want the viewer to visit your business? Your trade show? Invest money in your business, or order products from your web site?

The video needs to speak directly to particular interests and needs with a tailor made message. And for that, you’ll need a script. “If it ain’t on the page, it ain’t on the stage,” goes the old saying.

We can write a script for your approval that reflects what you want to say about your business, reaches your target audience and creates the effect you desire. Then, we’ll schedule a video shoot, edit the footage, and do voice-over narration with music and titles to create a custom produced project that shows off your business to potential customers and clients.

At Star Digital Studios, we handle all aspects of production from script writing to post-production editing and we do compression for website upload. Call us at 281 690-4280 for a free consultation.

is your Small Business Solution!

Sara Lynn Evans, age 49, of Sugar Land TX passed away unexpectedly at home on May 26, 2012.

Sara was born August 4, 1962 in Roswell, NM to Ann and Clyde Roach. She is survived by immediate family, Keith (K.C) Evans; their daughters Alexis Evans, and Shelby Evans; sisters Cathy Burris, Linda Major, Brenda White, and Pamela Mackey; brother David Buchanan; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and her loving parents Clyde & Ann Roach of White Rock, NM. Sara is preceded in death by her sister Beverly Adams-Mattson.

Sara was born in Roswell, NM and moved to Los Alamos, NM with her parents and family when she was seven. She grew up in Los Alamos, building life-long friendships from elementary through high school. Sara attended New Mexico State University before moving to Dallas in the mid 80’s to pursue her dreams. In 1987 Sara broke her leg during a water ski run that had started out just like any of the hundreds she had ripped through before. Her accident led to a discovery of Ewings Sarcoma and a large tumor just above her knee. A year of intense chemotherapy, surgeries, and radiation treatments followed. While home in Los Alamos taking a break between treatments in Dallas, she went to lunch with Keith Evans, a sales rep at IBM and former middle school sweetheart. KC never went back to work that day and they were married the following year on July 22, 1989 at Holy Faith church in Santa Fe, NM. They had an incredible week with friends and family before the wedding followed by a romantic honey-moon cruise to the U.S. Virgin Islands. Sara gave birth to their first child, Alexis, on November 24, 1991 while on crutches and with a broken metal rod in her leg. After enduring 20-something surgeries on the sick leg over many years, Sara with KC and toddler Alexis at her side, decided it was time to remove the leg that had been trying to dominate her life. A team led by the Chief of Orthopedic Oncology at the National Cancer Institute in Washington D.C performed the surgery just a few weeks after Mother’s Day in 1993. Sara continued to have to fight through chronic nerve pain every single day of her life from then on. She delivered their second baby, Shelby, on November 23, 1994 after making it through the entire pregnancy on one leg. Sara continued to have the balance and grace from her early years of dance as she raised their two young girls and supported KC in the highs and lows of his sales career. Sara made a beautiful home, cooked, catered, transported, and sometimes may have teleported to handle family obligations all the while with a sparkle in her beautiful blue eyes and warmth from her smile that made you feel

important and loved. She used her crutches and prosthetics as an enabler rather than a disability. In August of 1996 the family moved to Houston, TX, settling in Sugar Land the following year to raise their children.

Sara dedicated her life to raising her children. While living in Santa Fe, she also worked in advertising and found time to volunteer on Pajarito Mountain, clearing and stacking wood to improve the ski terrain. She remained in contact with childhood friends Lori Poe-Hinojosa, Julie Montague-Therrien, and Kathryn Taylor-Lloyd whom she loved like her sisters. Sharon Kemmerer and Sara became friends in Sugar Land, seemingly being friends since birth. Sara & KC loved and enlisted help for spiritual and life-

long guidance of Alexis from her god-parents Donna Garcia and Gary Shelton; and for Shelby from her god-parents Sara’s sister Pam and her husband Jerome Mackey. Sara had a great love of softball, following her girls on adventures over hundreds of

miles looking for the toughest competition in Texas. Always the outdoor girl, she loved skiing and learned to use outriggers to keep that fire burning. She loved camping and fishing with her family throughout her life. Friend Lori Poe remembers a motor home vacation as teens through Canada as the trip of a lifetime. Alexis and Shelby learned to fish from their Grandpa Clyde and their mom, while Sara’s mother Ann kept the camp alive and provided much needed backup plans for the occasional time “they all got away”.

Sara volunteered at the girls’ schools helping from the class room to the choir room to the softball fields. Sara also volunteered to help patients and families at Houston’s world-renowned Amputee & Prosthetic center that were facing the life-changing event of an amputation. The look on her patient’s faces was indescribable as she gave them hope for what the future holds and offered herself to them for

emotional support. Although the meetings were emotionally draining, the lives she was helping kept her giving.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday June 5, 2012, 4:00 pm at Fishers of Men Church in Sugar Land. Another service to celebrate Sara’s life will take place in Los Alamos, New Mexico, the third week of July, 2012.

In keeping with Sara’s always unselfish and giving values, the family is donating Sara’s most recent and advanced prosthesis to help change the life of someone else who otherwise could not walk. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make donations to Limbs of Love at limbsoflove.com.

Fort Bend Community Calendar

Dear Editor,I read with interest the

letter from “Name withheld by request” in the May 16 issue and the articles in the May 23 issue, and feel that a response is in order. The Board of Directors of the Fort Bend Central Appraisal District (CAD) is committed to providing the best possible service to Fort Bend County property owners. Toward that goal, every visitor to the Fort Bend CAD office is asked to complete a Property

Owner’s Survey rating the service received in a wide range of categories. The results of these surveys are compiled and carefully reviewed at each monthly Board Meeting. This information is a matter of public record. These surveys consistently show favorable ratings of approximately 90% in all categories.

The Board takes seriously the 10% of surveys expressing unfavorable opinions. The reasons arevevaluated and improvements are sought where possible. Any property owner can request a telephone call to discuss concerns, and that call will be made. In

addition, any property owner can address the Board at the beginning of each Board Meeting (held the third Monday of each month at 5:15 P.M.).

The Board cannot, by law, be involved in setting appraisal values. That is the job of the Fort Bend CAD staff who derive property values based on actual sales, regardless of whether they are increasing or decreasing and following nationwide appraisal methods. The Texas Property Code specifies the steps available to all property owners in resolving appraisal value disagreements: starting with an Informal discussion with the Fort Bend CAD staff, formal Protest hearing before the Appraisal Review Board (an independent, impartial group of citizens appointed by the Administrative District Judge), an appeal to an independent arbitrator appointed by the Texas Comptroller, and finally an appeal to the State District Court.

The Fort Bend CAD does not set tax rates (this is done by the taxing entities governing body) nor does it collect taxes. This is done by a separate organization, the Fort Bend County Tax

Fort Bend CAD Taxpayer Liaison Officer responds to lettersAssessor/Collector’s office and others which are not involved in the appraisal process.

The Texas Comptroller’s office conducts audits of the Fort Bend CAD, comparing sales price to appraised value and verifying the districts procedures and processes. Poor performance

can result in penalties to the school districts. The Fort Bend CAD consistently receives high marks in these reviews.

With a pool comes responsibility: Don’t let fun in the sun turn to tragedyBy Jane Penan SpellmanAllstate Exclusive Agent

Approximately one-third of children who drown each year lose their life in a residential swimming pool while in the care of one or both parents. It’s jolting facts like these that have

led many cities to enact pool safety ordinances and many property insurance companies to require homeowners with pools to install basic safeguards to meet eligibility guidelines.

Before buying a pool, whether it’s in-ground or above-ground, it’s important to check out all the

facts: what are your liabilities, what kind of safeguards does your municipality require, how will it affect your homeowners insurance, and how much will these safeguards and additional insurance coverage cost?

Taking care of these issues may sound like a drag, but doing so will save money and heartache down the road.

First, it’s important to know that a pool is considered an “attractive nuisance.” In other words, swimming pools are thought to be too tempting to resist, especially to children. Your kids may sneak out the patio door when you’re not looking, or neighborhood kids may trespass to get to the pool when you’re out of town.

These are the types of scenarios that the safety requirements of towns and insurance companies typically address. Other factors like diving boards, visibility from the street and whether the pool is in-ground may affect the insurability of the swimming pool.

Most cities require all residential swimming pools to have a barrier around them . An example of an acceptable barrier would be a perimeter fence that is at least 6 feet tall. Most residential pools are required to have a gate with a latch at a certain height, and some must have pool alarms systems.

While most homeowners

policies include a minimum of $100,000 of liability protection, you may want to consider increasing the amount to $300,000 or $500,000. In addition, you may consider purchasing an umbrella liability policy which typically costs about $200-$400 annually for $1 million in liability protection above what you already have on your home.

Beyond the liability issues, there are some common sense safety measures that every responsible pool owner should follow to keep children and adults out of harm’s way.

• Create layers of protection. Set up as many barriers as possible to make it difficult for a child to get to the pool such as door alarms, fencing, safety covers and locks.

• Make sure everyone in the household knows how to swim, has a basic knowledge of pool safety and knows the pool rules. CPR training is also encouraged.

• Never leave toys or floats in the pool when it’s not in use.

• Keep life-saving gear such as a first aid kit, reaching poles and buoys readily available and in proper working condition

• Children should always be supervised while in the pool.

• Keep children away from filters and devices with suction force that may cause injury or drowning.

DiGeorge Syndrome Symptom TreatmentsThe genetic condition, DiGeorge syndrome, is caused by a chromo

some 22 abnormality which is characterized by inadequate development of different parts of the body. Individuals with this condition typically experience abnormalities of the heart, underdevelopment of the thymus, low calcium due to underdevelopment of the parathyroid gland, and behavioral conditions. The thymus normally works in the development of T cells, which are essential to the function of the immune system.

Although there is currently no cure available for DiGeorge syndrome, treatments are available for associated abnormalities. Surgical procedures may be needed to correct heart defects. Signs of low calcium in infants may include muscle jerking. Infants with low levels of calcium may be treated with calcium gluconate. Routine vaccinations are important, as underdevelopment of the thymus gland can contribute to an increased risk for infections. If a behavioral condition such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) develops, treatments for the specific con dition may be prescribed. Methyphenidate (Concerta, Ritalin) is a stimu lant that works to increase the amounts of the neurotransmitters dopam ine and norepinephrine. Atomoxetine (Strattera) is nonstimulant that works to increase norepinephrine.

The City of Sugar Land is looking for citizen input as they craft a master plan for pedestrian and bicycle usage. Residents may visit www.sugarlandtx.gov/pedbike to take a survey, provide feedback, complete an online mapping activity, sign up for email updates and learn about future public meetings. The next meeting is scheduled on June 25, from 68 p.m., at City Hall, 2700 Town Center Blvd. North.

The updated plan will identify a network of pedestrian and bicycle routes throughout Sugar Land. The intent is to utilize existing and future routes for both recreational and mobilityrelated purposes.

Based on public feedback, the plan should identify origins and destinations; determine where better connections are needed; specify how connections should be made (i.e., onstreet, offstreet); identify preferred route types (i.e., trails, bike lanes, shared lanes); and improve challenging crossings such as U.S. Highway 59, State Highway 6, U.S. Highway 90A, the Brazos River, and the railroad.

ICE CAPADESIf your feet ache, applying ice to the area may help prevent an injury.

Strains, sprains, and other injuries will also benefit from icing. It is critical, however, to ice properly. Perform icing in a timely manner following the onset of the pain. Move the ice around the area. Elevate the foot while icing. Restrict the icing session to 20 minutes at the most to avoid damaging the tissues. Wait up to an hour or until the area has become warm to the touch prior to icing again. A plastic sandwich bag filled with ice cubes or crushed ice with some water works well. Place a barrier, like a thin washcloth, between the ice pack and the foot.

Today’s helpful column has been brought to you as a public service. At some point in their lives, most people suffer from some kind of foot disor-der—from foot odor and nail problems to bunions and disease. Heredity, neglect, injuries, and medical conditions are often the culprits. Whatever the state of your feet, we can treat your problem to restore your comfort and ease of movement. If you are new to the area and don’t have a podiatrist, why not call us at 281-980-3668 for an appointment at 3143 Hwy. 6 South. Make your next step a comfortable one - call us for an appointment.

HINT: A bag of frozen corn or peas can be used to ice a foot.

The suspect was described as

Reports indicate that while to crooks were loot’n cars, the owners were oblivious… inside the gun store….shop’n! Musta’ been one of those frenzies! A sale?, well, ya know…

So, this begs the question -

of Sheriff. The race moved along with Brady raising upwards to a half million dollars for a job that would actually require him to take a pay cut. It is interesting to note that all three of Brady’s opponents combined spent less than one quarter of the money raised or spent by Craig Brady.

are these crooks stupid or do they have a death wish? Well, based on what has happened so far… they could just be gutsy.

Because so far, the crooks are one up on the cops! During their little spree in the parking lot – where NO shots were fired! - the crooks got away with a flat of ammo, 2 shotguns and a briefcase from inside 3

different cars. Now mind you - that was all

under the watchful eye of 130 surveillance cameras.

You can bet the end to this story has yet to be written! But regardless, both sets of dummies are armed now, the crooks, and the frenzied shoppers, who left their firearms unattended, in the car!

a Black male between 5’ 9” to 6’l", he was believed to be 20 to 25 years of age, with a thin build and brown eyes. He was wearing a bandana over his mouth, a grey shirt and jeans, said Adolph. The suspect fled the scene in a bright red car, possibly a Dodge Neon, that was being driven by another black man.

Anyone with information should call the Sugar Land Police Department at (281) 275-2540 or Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at (281) 342-TIPS (8477).

In the ever evolving campaign strategies, social media was a platform for several of the candidates and their supporters in their effort to spread their message. In some cases it appeared to be beneficial, in other cases it may have backfired onto the candidate. It was an amazing race to watch unfold--complete with questionable characters,

massive amounts of money, bad behavior, and poor judgment.

On election night when the early voting numbers were released, Troy Nehls was way out front and never looked back. In early voting Nehls garnered 56.52% of the vote with 11,062 votes, Brady was at 33.20% with 6,497, Teague with 6.90% and Minchew with 3.39%.

According to the election

results posted by the Fort Bend County Elections Office at the end of the night on May 29, 2012 and total votes tallied, Troy Nehls handily won the Republican nomination for sheriff of Fort Bend County with 54.80% of the Republican vote with 18,906 votes.

Brady ended the night with 34.48% of the vote and 11,895 votes, Teague at 7.02% with 2,422 votes and Minchew at 3.70% with 1,276 votes. Interestingly if all the votes for Brady, Teague, and Minchew were added together, there would still not have been the much anticipated runoff.

Now that the candidates for the Republican and Democratic parties have been selected in the race for the next sheriff of Fort Bend County, Republican Troy Nehls and Democratic nominee Michael Ellison, who ran unopposed, will ready themselves and their parties for the November general election.

point which would have reduced the completion time dramatically.

Glenn declined to be interviewed, but he did issue this statement via email, “ I deny all of the allegations being made against me in the pending litigation.” Pack and Jassma say they are limited in the action they can take against Jones and the City of Pearland because of sovereign immunity--the idea that governments cannot be sued. A Pearland spokeswoman did issue the following statement,

“We did contract Big Statues LLC to produce a sculpture, but since it is the subject of litigation, we will not comment any further at this time.”

While hoping to collect damages and any profits Glenn made off of the Pearland statue, including new business he obtained by having pictures of the statue on his web site, Pack says it isn’t the money he is really after. It is the protection of his livelihood, his reputation and his artistic creativity that matter

most to him. “I am taking this very

personally and then some,” Pack said. “Not only did they infringe on my copyright but they copied my work intentionally and knowingly. Somehow it wouldn’t seem so personal if the copied statue were in another state. But it is right down the street, practically in our backyard.”

The complaint states that Matt Glenn and Big Statues have until June 8 to respond.

If you have economic loss or property damage because of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, you could get money from a class action settlement with BP Exploration & Production Inc. and BP America Production Company (“BP”). Go to DeepwaterHorizonSettlements.com for more information, including information on how to file a claim.

Who is included in the economic & ProPerty damages settlement?

The Economic and Property Damages (“E&PD”) Settlement Class includes people, businesses, and other entities in the states of Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi, and certain counties in Texas and Florida, that were harmed by the oil spill. The website DeepwaterHorizonSettlements.com has detailed descriptions and maps to help you determine whether a geographic location may be included in the E&PD Settlement. Additionally, you can call 1-866-992-6174 or e-mail [email protected] to find out if a geographic location is included.

What does the economic & ProPerty damages settlement Provide?

The E&PD Settlement makes payments for the following types of claims: (1) Seafood Compensation, (2) Economic Damage, (3) Loss of Subsistence, (4) Vessel Physical Damage, (5) Vessels of Opportunity Charter Payment, (6) Coastal Real Property Damage, (7) Wetlands Real Property Damage, and (8) Real Property Sales Damage. There is no limit on the total dollar amount of the E&PD Settlement; all qualified claims will be paid.

hoW to get Benefits from the economic & ProPerty damages settlement

You need to submit a Claim Form to request a payment. You can get a copy of the various Claim Forms by visiting the website or by calling 1-866-992-6174. Claims can be submitted online or by mail. If you have questions about how to file your claim, you should call the toll-free number for assistance.

The deadline to submit most E&PD claims will be

April 22, 2014 or six months after the E&PD Settlement becomes effective (that is, after the Court grants “final approval” and any appeals are resolved), whichever is later. There will be an earlier deadline to submit E&PD Seafood Compensation claims. The earlier deadline to submit Seafood Compensation claims will be 30 days after final approval of the Settlement by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana (regardless of appeals). Actual claim filing deadlines will be posted on the website as they become available. Valid claims will be paid as they are approved, beginning shortly after the Court-Supervised Settlement Program commences. It is highly recommended that E&PD Settlement Class Members complete and submit their claim forms promptly. Please read the Medical Benefits Settlement notice because you may also be eligible for benefits from that settlement.

your other oPtions

If you do not want to be legally bound by the E&PD Settlement, you must Opt Out or exclude yourself by October 1, 2012 or you won’t be able to sue BP over certain economic and property damage claims. If you stay in the E&PD Settlement, you may object to it by August 31, 2012. The Detailed Notice explains how to exclude yourself or object.

The Court will hold a hearing on November 8, 2012 to consider whether to approve the E&PD Settlement. You or your own lawyer may ask to appear and speak at the hearing at your own cost. The Court will also consider Class Counsel fees, costs, and expenses including an interim payment of $75 million and additional awards equal to 6% of class claims and benefits paid. Class Counsel fees, costs and expenses under the Economic and Property Damages Settlement Agreement and the Medical Benefits Settlement Agreement jointly cannot exceed $600 million. Class members’ payments will not be reduced if the Court approves the payment of Class Counsel fees, costs, and expenses because BP will separately pay these attorney fees, costs, and expenses.

The useful tips below about gathering pertinent information will help enlighten and prepare you for unpredictable emergencies.

The National Hurricane Center advises everyone:

• Know if you live in an evacuation area (Fort Bend County is designated by the state as a pass-through

If a storm strikes … don’t be in the darkcounty for evacuees who live along the Gulf Coast. As a municipality in the county, Missouri City would not be under a mandatory evacuation if a hurricane were to hit the region – so it is imperative that residents be prepared to shelter in place.)

• Assess your risks and know your home’s vulnerability to storm surge, flooding and wind.

• Understand National Weather Service forecasts, and especially the meaning of hurricane and tornado watches and warnings. Hurricanes: For a storm watch in this category, forecasters would report a possibility of winds of 74 mph and higher within 36 hours. For a warning, forecasters would report a possibility of winds at the same speed

within 24 hours. Tornadoes: A watch is an alert to monitor the skies and a warning signals that a tornado has struck the ground and shelter must be sought immediately.

The national safety group also stresses the importance of keeping a list of informational resources for reference. A recommended list for Missouri City residents includes:

• Police and Fire Departments: 911 or 281.403.8700

Centerpoint Energy: 713.207.2222

• American Red Cross, Fort Bend County Branch: 281.342.9480

• Missouri City Television: Comcast—Channel 16 and AT&T U-verse-

• Channel 99

• WQMN – 1690 AM: • Missouri City’s emergency

advisory radio stationEnable Fort Bend (www.

enablefortbend.com): This County agency assists individuals with special needs during an emergency or natural disaster. Staff can be reached at 281-238-3514.

Every year, the Quail Valley Exchange Club awards multiple scholarships to area High School Seniors that are destined for college and are in need of assistance. The Exchange Club works with Counselors in five local High Schools to identify students who have overcome significant challenges and emerged as examples of outstanding Character and Citizenship.

This year The Club is proud to have identified and rewarded

twelve students who embody this spirit of personal responsibility and accomplishment with scholarships totaling $32,000.

In addition to providing these Scholarships, The Exchange Club makes annual donations and supports programs for CASA, the Escape Center, Fort Bend Human Needs, provides for economically disadvantaged students and families at Christmas time, and responds to other identified Community needs.

On May 24, 12 brave young men took the field with a 13 game winning streak on the line. When the dust settled, those same boys finished what they started by beating the A's 12-10. These Rangers had to battle back to win 3 of their last 4 games in "come from behind" fashion! Pictured from left to right are Coach Virgil Spies, Coach Karl Baron, Coach Darren Jones. Back row are Seth Spies, Brandon Lofton, Kade Baron, Mathew Montes, Jordan Franklin, Devin Baylor, Kaleb Ashworth and Spencer Jones. Front row are Jaydn Whitsit, Andre Graves, Derrick Burton and Austin Rodriguez. This was the second straight undefeated season for Coach Baron.Kade, Jaydn, and Spencer were a part of that team as well.

Winning the District 26 Texas State Representative primary election by 2,000 votes is both encouraging and humbling. Our team of volun-teers extended themselves beyond our fondest dreams.

Encouraging and thankful because - by faith and perseverance - we climbed high mountains, overcame many obstacles, in our “grassroots” journey to victory.

Humbling because you, by your vote and support, put your trust in me to be your strong voice in Austin.Your concerns are my concerns, and I pledge to voice those concerns often - and loudly - on such core values as family, faith, and freedom from excessive government regulations.

My background prepared me and has given me confidence I need to take this next step alongside you. I am an Annapolis graduate, a veteran and proven leader who reached the rank of Captain in a 30-year career.

In both the military and now in the business world, I proved it is possible to live within a budget. Government should also live within its means. As your representative, I will fight to require all state agencies to cut waste and spend your tax dollars wisely. There are many more concerns to deal with on the horizon. I promise, our voice will be heard.

To make it happen, I need your help: volunteer to walk, call friends and neighbors to join you, by contributing to our “grassroots” cause, and - most importantly - your vote.

The journey to Austin isn’t over until final votes are counted following the runoff election on July 31. That means more hard work ahead. With the Lord as our guide, together, we will win - again!

Showing up, Standing up & Speaking up,

Rick Miller
