June 6, 2018 In a tremendous team effort, the Lady Raiders girls soccer team defeated the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers 4-0, in their state quarter final match last night in Lynchburg. The girls will finish off their 2018 season this weekend at the state tournament in Roanoke, VA. Their first match will be on Friday afternoon against Blacksburg HS. There will be a field hockey interest meeting on Wednesday, June 6 th after school in room 156. We will discuss summer opportunities and next years tryout schedule. See you there! Ryan Thomas placed 5 th in the high jump and 6 th in the 110m hurdles. The 4x400m team of Jerod Pope, Luke Kendrat, Jack Huddleston and Ryan Thomas placed 5 th . Derek McCandless was 4 th in the high jump. These guys were the #2 team in the state. • In a tremendous team effort, the Lady Raiders girls soccer team defeated the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers 4-0, in their state

quarter final match last night in Lynchburg. The girls will finish off their 2018 season this weekend at the state tournament

• Crossed Sabres, LCHS’s literary magazine, is now available. Contributors: see Mrs. Egger for your copy. Limited copies are

available for purchase for $5 each. See Mrs. Egger in room 102 to purchase a copy. The magazine is also available online –

check the LCHS website for the literary magazine link.

• All guys and girls on the track team who competed in the District meet need to get a uniform from Coach Campbell for a

picture after school on Tuesday. After the picture, ALL uniforms will be collected. Anyone else who still has a uniform needs

to get it in immediately.

• During a rain-soaked three days, the boys track team captured the State Runner-Up trophy with some incredible races. Evan

Briscoe was 2nd in long jump, 3rd in the 200m, 4th in the 100m, and was on the 2nd place 4x100m team with Ryan Thomas,

Dom Baah and Jack Huddleston. Dom Baah placed 3rd in the triple jump. Ryan Thomas placed 5th in the high jump and 6th in

the 110m hurdles. The 4x400m team of Jerod Pope, Luke Kendrat, Jack Huddleston and Ryan Thomas placed 5th. Derek

McCandless was 4th in the high jump. These guys were the #2 team in the state.

• The ladies team placed 7th in the state with Molly Chapman placing 2nd in high and long jumps and 4th in triple jump. Erin

• The girls soccer team defeated Kettle Run last night in the region semi-final with a score of 5-2. The girls will play

Woodgrove on Thursday in the Regional Championship.

• Do you love to read? Anyone interested in joining the 2018-19 Battle of the Books team, there is an interest meeting on

Friday, June 1st at 8:45 am in room 214.

• Congratulations to the Girls Track team – they won the Region 4C Championships on Friday. School records were broken by

Natalie Villaflor, Molly Chapman and Evan Briscoe during the meet. Both the boys and girls track teams will compete in the

state meet this Friday/Saturday in Harrisonburg.

• Congratulations to Logan Quinn, Smith Drupa, Kya Carrington and Thomas Aquilina who were chosen to serve on the 2018-

19 Raider Outreach Executive Board.

• LCHS will hold a Volleyball Program meeting on Wednesday, May 30th from 7 pm to 9 pm in the LCHS library. Anyone

interested in learning about the Raiders Volleyball Program, meet the coaching staff and hearing from returning players is

invited to attend.

• Friday! Friday! Friday! The last day of the week before the beloved Memorial Day long weekend. Come on out for a good

laugh at 7 pm in the auditorium for $5. You won’t regret it. It’s the last show of the year and it’ll be a hoot!

• The girls varsity soccer team defeated LV last night 9-3 in the district semi-final game. They will play Riverside HS tomorrow

night at home for the District Championship.

• Interested in travelling to Germany, France and Switzerland? If so, please stop by room 108 and talk to Frau Gibson. This

will be the experience of a lifetime.

• We will not have announcements the remainder of the week due to AP testing. We can make announcements at the end of

the day if all testing is completed.

meeting for new and current officers is on Friday, May 11 at 8:30 in room 230.

• For two weeks, beginning next week, we will not have morning announcements, the pledge or minute of silence over the

PA system due to AP testing. Teachers, please conduct the pledge and MOS at 9:15 am with your students. We will read

announcements in the afternoon if testing is complete.

• AP testing will begin Monday, May 7th. Please check the school counseling webpage for additional information. Reminder:

morning tests atart at 7:45 am.

• Reminder: Students who have enrolled in a NOVA Dual Enrollment Course for the next school year, especially English 12 DE

and US History DE, must complete an “Intent to Pursue Dual Enrollment Course(s)” form. Turn this form into Mrs. Mitchum

in School Counseling Office by May 15th. Students who do not turn in their form by the deadline will be taken out of the

Dual Enrollment class and placed in an academic class for the next school year.

halftime of the boys varsity lacrosse game on May 8th. Five students from each school will be selected to participate. To be

entered, you must tweet a picture of yourself at Moe’s or eating Moe’s to the hastag #LeesburgMoes. Can’t make it to the

Burrito Contest but love Moe’s? Visit Moe’s between May 9th-10th and put your receipt in the bowl marked LCHS. The

winning school will get 25% of sales and the losing school will get 15%. Let’s go Raiders!

• Are you in need of a prom dress, shoes or jewelry? Irene’s Prom Closet will be here today. Please visit room 109 during your

study halls or lunch. See Mrs. Pelegrino with any questions.

• Big congrats to LCHS Jazz for earning straight Superior rating Saturday at District Jazz Fest. Best Solos went to Eric Bowers,

• The track team competed in the Apple Blossom Invitational on Saturday, with both teams winning the Invite. This is the

third straight invite win for the girls team. Molly Chapman and Evan Briscoe were named Meet MVPs. Girls individual

winners were Molly Chapman, Natalie Villaflor and the 4x400m team. Guys winners included Evan Briscoe, Jack Huddleston

and the 4x400m team. Lastly, the 4x100m team of Ryan Thomas, Evan Briscoe, Dom Baah and Jack Huddleston broke the

meet record and shattered the school record with a sub-43 time.

• Congratulations to the girls lacrosse team on their win over LVHS last night. A huge shout out goes to senior defender and

captain Kylie Dunne who has stepped up for her team to play in the goal. She had an unbelievable game with multiple

critical saves. The girls take on Riverside on Friday.

200m. Molly Chapman and Dom Baah both won the triple jump. Grace Allen won the discus. Molly Chapman and Erin

Messner went 1 & 2 in the high jump. The boys 4x400m qualified for regions. The team competes this Saturday at the Apple

Blossom Invitational at James Wood HS.

• Congratulations to the LCHS Model UN team who competed at Thomas Jefferson HS last weekend. Maggie Manson and

Charles Coleman won Honorable Delegation for representing the Dominican Republic in the UNCTAD and Sofia Fagan won a

Verbal Commendation for representing Kentucky senator Rand Paul in the U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services.

• The track team competed last night against the other six district teams with some outstanding results: Derek McCandless, in

his second meet ever, won the high jump and qualified for the state meet. The girls 4x400m got a region qualifier. Dom

Baah qualified for states in the triple jump. The boys 4x800m got a region qualifier. Molly Chapman qualified for states in

the long jump. The team has had a fantastic early start to the season.

• The LCHS Science Department would like to congratulate Corwin Warner and Will Peterson for their recent successful

participation in the Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair. Both projects won prestigious awards while competing

against the best science in the state. Corwin’s project, “Using Arduino Microcontrollers for Dual-Fuel Injection” won the

International Counceil on Systems Engineering award. Will’s project, “Development of a Computer Aided System for the

Classification of Breast Legions from Mammogram Scans”, won second place in the systems software category.

Improvasaurus for this special, one time event.

• The varsity girls soccer team came out on top last night in a tough battle against Loudoun Valley HS with a 3-1 win. Last

• Loudoun County Raiders Varsity softball team cruised to an easy victory over Dominion 16-1 in 5 innings on Tuesday.

Loudoun County took the lead for good with seven runs in the second inning. In the second Tess Mitchell singled, scoring

one run, Kiley Turner singled, scoring one run, Kaly Garcia grounded out, scoring one run, and Taylor Yokum homered on a

1-0 count, scoring three runs. Alyssa Taylor was the winning pitcher for Loudoun County. She allowed two hits and one run

while striking out eight and walking one in the complete game victory. Natalia Gordon led the Raiders with two hits in three

at bats. The Raiders are home Friday @6:30 against Loudoun Valley in a rematch of last years Conference Championship.

• The girls soccer teams started conference play off strong with a win from both JV and varsity last night against Dominion

HS. JV won 2-1, with goals scored by freshmen Julia Allen and Fiona Flaharty. The varsity team defeated the Titans 4-0.

Goals were scored by junior Taylor Kibble and sophomore Brooke Kirstein, each netting two goals. The Raiders return home

on Thursday to face Loudoun Valley.

• The LC Raiders varsity softball team topped Marshall 4-0 last night! Tess Mitchell didn’t allow a single run against Marshall,

throwing a complete game shutout. The victory runs the Raiders record to 3-1. Mitchell only allowed two hits and no runs

while striking out nine and only walking one. The Raiders scattered 11 hits in the game. Haley Dillenseger, Logan Gibson,

Kiley Turner, Jenna Woljcik and Tess Mitchell all had multiple hits for the Raiders.

• The girls varsity soccer team defeated Osbourn Park HS last night, with a score of 8-0. Our back line and goalkeeper

displayed an outstanding effort, shutting out the Yellow Jackets on the night. Goals were scored by junior Taylor Kibble (4),

Sophomore Brooke Kirstein (2), senior, Jillian Bowers (1) and junior Jenelle Manni (1).

the Hanover/Lee-Davis Festival of Choirs. They also won Best Choreography, Best Show Design and Best Vocal Quality.

on Thursday night at home against the state runner-up Freedom Eagles. First pitch is at 6:30.

• The girls varsity soccer team won their first regular season game last night, defeating Freedom HS 5-1. Goals were scored by

• The Girls Soccer program started off their season strong this past Thursday in Alexandria. The JV team defeated West

Potomac 2-1 with goals scored by freshman Julia Allen and Sarah Noel. The varsity team displayed an all-around team

effort, defeating WP 6-4, with two goals scored by junior Taylor Kibble, two goals scored by sophomore Devon Balac, and

sophomores Sydney Snell and Brooke Kirstein each netted one. The girls soccer team will return to action this Tuesday

against Broad Run.

• In the first season of Indoor Winter Track, LCHS had three athletes compete in the state meet. Molly Chapman qualified in

three events and medalled in all. Jack Huddleston placed 2nd in the 500m, while Ryan Thomas placed 3rd in the high jump.

earn a certification as a personal trainer through the National Academy of Sport Medicine. This course typically costs

between $700-$900 and is FREE to you! This course will teach you the comprehensive knowledge of human movement

science (biomechanics), functional anatomy, physiology and kinesiology. This content will provide the fundamental

• This past weekend, the Orienteering Team competed at the National NJROTC Championships in Orlando, FL. Overall, the

Raiders placed 7th against 29 other schools with the Varsity team placing 5th, JV 14th and the All Freshman team placing 3rd.

Individually, the following cadets earned medals: Turner Leigh – 4th place out of 97 varsity runners, Caleb Rexroad - 9th place

out of 57 freshman runners, and Adin Freese - 1st place out of 57 freshman runners. The team was captained by cadet Nic

Schaefer.

qualified for finals, as well as the relays teams including Colby Koenig and Michael Seck. Hats off to these awesome

and 7 rebounds. Joe Alexander had 7 rebounds and 8 assists. The boys play at Woodgrove tomorrow night at 7 pm.

• The girls basketball team defeated Dominion 78-31 and will play Heritage at home tomorrow night at 7 pm.

• Congratulations to the NJROTC Cyber Raiders on their 3rd place win in the Cyber Patriot Youth Cyber Education Program

State round competition. This is the first year that LC has fielded Cyber Patriot teams. Our third place team consisted of

Zach Almy, Jaidon Doyle, Lance Larson, Sinai Martinez and Nico Mercorelli.

• This past Friday night, the Raider Swim team performed outstandlingly at the Regional meet. The girls’ team finished 5th

overall, and the boys team fought hard and only lost first place by one point! Next week is the state meet in Richmond.

• Congratulations to the wrestling team on a strong showing this weekend. After winning only two matches at regionals a

year ago, the Raiders had four individuals place in the top 6 of the region. Freshman Andrew Judd scored a big upset over

the district runner up en route to his 6th place finish. Senior Ian Stanley also finished 6th in a very difficult weight class.

Brandon Cicalese finished in 5th place and is an alternate for the state wrestling tournament. Finally, Duncan Baldwin

qualified for the state wrestling tournament at Churchland HS this Friday and Saturday. Congrats to all of these young men

on a great season!

Flewellyn and Nate Brown. The following wrestlers qualified for the Div. 4 Region C Tournament at Sherando this weekend:

Andrew Judd, Josh Pettiford, David Valle, Congratulations to Brandon Cicalese and Ian Stanley for both making district

finals. Finally, congratulations to Duncan Baldwin on winning his second district championship. Duncan had to battle

through some illness the past few weeks but showed some real character and came out a champion. Congrats to him and

• Congratulations to the gymnastics team last night at the Dulles District meet. Kristin Gettier made it to Regionals thanks to

her outstanding routine. Henna Patel beat her personal best score on vault and Melanie Vieyra beat her personal best score

• The Loudoun County Wrestling Team had a busy weekend. The varsity wrestling team travelled to JCHS for the Wrestle for a

Cure Tournament. Placing for the Raiders were Ian Stanley (3rd), Duncan Baldwin (4th), and Brandon Cicalese (5th). Also

wrestling well for the Raiders were Dylan Pfeffer who went 3-2 and Andrew Judd who went 2-1 on the weekend. On Friday

and Saturday our JV team wrestled at the largest JV Tournament in the state of VA. Our grapplers competed in a 32 man

bracket and came out with two individual place winners. Christian Hernandez finished in 6th place and William Ward

finished 2nd. Congratulations to both of these young men as well as the many others who competed and won matches at

this very tough tournament. Finally, a special congratulations to Lilou Bosse and Leila Tevlin as they competed in the VA

Women’s State Championship this weekend. County’s two lady wrestlers showed what they were made of, as Lilou Bosse

finished 2nd in the women’s state championship and Leila Tevlin was crowned a VA Women’s State Champion. This is quite

an accomplishment for a first year freshman. We are very proud of both these ladies. The varsity wrestling team will be

back in action this Saturday at Rock Ridge for the Dulles District Championships.

• This past Saturday the Raiders Varsity Swim Team competed in the Dulles District Championships and became runner-up

District champs. In Lady Raider swim news, Lexie Vanderloo broke the school record in the 200 Free and 100 Back. The girls

also broke school records with Spencer Davis, Nerissa Wagner, Lexie Vanderloo and Julia Calvert in the 200 Free and 400

Free relays. The boys were able to break two school records with Kyle Backus breaking the 100 Breaststroke and Colin

Hughes, Jack Ramberg, Shane Hunter and Kyle Bacchus breaking the 400 Freestyle relay record. Many Raiders will be

representing LCHS at the Regional Meet on February 9th.

• Congratulations to the wrestling team on a solid start to district competition. The County Grapplers have started off district

competition 2-2 with big wins over both Riverside and Dominion. Excelling for Raiders in district competition are Ian Stanley

4-0, Duncan Baldwin 3-0, Brandon Cicalese 3-1 and Josh Pettiford who is 3-1. The Raiders will take to the mats again this

Saturday as they are at the Valley Duals.

• Coach Jen would like to recognize the varsity gymnastics team for their great effort at the Woodgrove meet last night.

Though they did not place, the girls displayed exemplary team unity and comradery. They continue to impress on all fronts.

285-287. The boys team won by a score of 171-115 and won 10 of 11 events. Collin Hughes qualified for States in the 100

backstroke. Cole Eisner qualified for Regionals in the 200 Freestyle and Shane Hunter in the 50 Freestyle. Their next meet

will be on Saturday the 20th at 8 pm at Ida Lee and will be Senior Night!

The LCHS boys team defeated the Pride by a score of 170-116 and the girls took the win with a close score of 145-141. New

stroke qualifying times this meet were Jack Ramberg for Regionals in the 200 Free and the 100 Breaststroke and Shane

Hunter qualified in the 100 backstroke. Collin Hughes qualified for States in both the 50 and 100 Free and Kyle Backus in

Melanie Vieyra Vieyra placed 3rd All Around, and Rachel Chrisner took 5th place on Beam. Henna Patel's experience and leadership helped bring the team to Victory. • Congratulations to the Raider Wrestlers on another solid performance this weekend at the Warren County Invitational. The Raiders had 6 individuals place in the tournament, despite missing three starters. Congratulations to the following individuals for placing for the Raiders on the weekend... Christian Hernanez, Jaidon Doyle, Josh Pettiford, Brandon Cicalese, Ian Stanley, and David Valle all had outstanding weekends for the Raiders. • The boys basketball team defeated Heritage Friday night 55-45. The team was led by sophomore Matthew Anderson, who scored 28 points and had 10 rebounds. Seniors Pierce Brenner, Steven Bowers and Cameron Corbett all chipped in 7 points for the Raiders.

• Poetry Club meeting this Thursday at 8:27 am in Room 204.

• New NHS members and set-up volunteers: Please meet in the auditorium at 6:00 pm on Thursday, January 11. We will go through a brief run-through of the evening’s events.

• Attention all International Cooking Club members, our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 9th when we

celebrate India. If you plan to attend, please sign up in Room 131. We hope you come cook with us!

• Auditions for the Student Director Play Festival will be held Tuesday and Wednesday immediately after school in

the auditorium. See Mr. Wells if you have any questions.

• Girl’s basketball plays at home tonight against Loudoun Valley. Boys are away at LV.

• On Friday during Club Period, beginning at 9:30 am in the auditorium, there will be an assembly for seniors to

register to vote. Seniors are expected to attend the assembly, unless they are already registered to vote. You will

need your social security number to complete the registration process. Please help spread the word.

• Congratulations to the wrestling team on two outstanding performances over the holiday break. First, the Raider Wrestlers traveled to Rock Ridge for the Loudoun County Championships. The Raiders had six individual place winners at the tournament, the most in school history for that tournament. Placing for the Raiders were Brandon Cicalese (6th), Mavik Flewellyn (6th), David Valle (6th), Josh Pettiford (4th), Ian Stanley (4th) and Duncan Baldwin (2nd). Also congratulations to Jaidon Doyle who won the J.V. County Championship held on the same day.

• On December 21st the Raiders traveled to Broadway High School for the Lou Nagy Memorial Tournament. The Raiders went 3-2 on the afternoon with wins over Broadway High School, East Rockingham, and Fluvanna. Congrats to all of the individuals that participated on an outstanding Holiday break.

• Come out and see the Raider Grapplers on Senior Night, this Thursday against Heritage. Wrestling will

begin at 6pm. Hope to see you then.
