Congratulations, Saint James School Graduates!

Last Friday afternoon and evening there was a sense of excitement on Main Street in the vicinity of Saint James Church as 38 young members of our communi-ty marked an important milestone in their lives. I am sure that their parents and guardians, brothers and sisters, grandparents and godparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, were as happy for them as I was! How the years have flown, and how moving it was to see these young people looking and acting so grown up! As moved as I was, I can only imagine the pride of our graduates’ families as they watched their chil-dren take this first big step toward adulthood. Our 2020 graduates are an impressive group – a trib-ute to their families, to Mrs. Zorger, Mrs. Anderson and their teachers, and to the many other caring adults who have influenced, inspired, nurtured and guided them along the way and who have been an integral part of their lives. To our graduates of the Saint James School Class of 2020, I say congratulations! You have worked hard, you have learned much, you have made friends many of whom, I hope you will keep throughout your lives, you have become good citizens of your community and your country, and you have grown in your love for God and His people. Unlike any class before you, you have navigated through uncharted waters. You have mastered remote learning and learned resilience and determination. You have used your imagination to tackle familiar problems in new ways. You un-doubtedly have unique memories that you will con-tinue to reflect on for many years. Never forget how much God loves you, and stay close to Him – for He will always be your best friend. God bless you!

JUST A REMINDER…. The majority of the office staff is currently working from home in response to the COVID-19 restrictions. If you need something or require assistance, you may email [email protected]. Emails are read regularly. You may also call the rectory, 860-643-4129. If you get the answering machine, please be sure to leave a message. Someone will return your call as soon as possible.

CELEBRATION OF MASS FROM SAINT JAMES CHURCH

BROADCAST ON SUNDAYS ON YOUTUBE.COM Mass will be broadcast Sundays on youtube.com. To view the Mass, go to the Saint James Parish website, www.stjamesmanchester.org, and click on the link found on the home page. This will take you directly to the site where you will be able to view the Sunday Mass. Additionally, previous Mass broadcasts will re-main on the site for you to watch if you wish. You may access them by going to youtube.com and typing St. James Parish Manchester CT in the search bar. This practice will continue as long as the COVID-19 crisis continues. The YouTube link will change weekly and will be posted to the Saint James Parish website. (To view the videos in HD, click on the setting button, which looks like a gear, and select 1080P under the qual-ity tab.) Father Cavanaugh is pleased to be able to bring Sunday Mass to you from Saint James Church in this way. Hopefully you will take advantage of the opportunity to stay connected to our parish by attending the online Mass each week.

RESUMPTION OF WEEKDAY MASS

Last week the Archdiocese of Hartford announced that effec-tive Monday, June 8th, churches within the Archdiocese may reopen for weekday Mass provided that a parish is in compli-ance with the requirements established by the Archdiocese and the State of Connecticut. These requirements include the following:

Parishioners who do not feel well should not attend Mass.

Church attendance is limited to a maximum of 100 people.

Individuals must sanitize their hands as they enter and wear a face mask at all times except when receiving Holy Communion. (The procedure for this will be explained during Mass.)

Social distancing must be observed at all times (You will notice that some pews are blocked off to facilitate this.)

There will be no congregational singing.

The entrance procession and the recessional processions will be eliminated.

Parishioners are asked not to congregate outside before or after Mass.

Parishioners should not arrive earlier than 15 minutes prior to the scheduled Mass. This will allow for the daily sanitization of the Church.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Archbishop Blair has dispensed all Catholics in the Archdio-cese from the obligation to participate in Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. If you are at greater risk due to your age or because of other medical issues, I encourage you to stay home and participate in Mass via the television or by watching Mass online. Saint James celebrates Sunday Mass weekly on YouTube. Our YouTube channel is Saint James Parish Manchester. You can also access the link directly via our website www.stjamesmanchester.org Father Janusz and I have been celebrating Mass daily without a congregation. We look forward to having you join us again in celebrating the Eucharist. You will notice that things will be different – no singing, no missalettes or holy water, etc. What is most important is that Our Lord is there, and we will do our best to carry out His command, “Do this in Memory of Me”. Your patience and understanding are appreciated as we all struggle through this together. May God bless us all.

P. S. The Archdiocesan policy on reopening churches can be found online at www.archdioceseofhartford.org We are not able to invite you to celebrate Sunday Mass with us at this time. When the Archdiocese finalizes the plan for Sunday Mass, we will post it in our bulletin and on our website.
