Today’s Anthem
Today is a special day in so many ways!
Dedicated to the people of Hilltop United Methodist Church, Sandy, Utah, saints all, by Reverend Dennis Shaw and Marilyn White in cele-bration of seven fruitful years in ministry.
The above is the dedication that was given to composer Mark A. Miller from Pastor Dennis and Marilyn to place at the top of the commissioned piece “Wait for the Lord!” Yes, commissioned! Today’s anthem is a gift from Pastor Dennis and Marilyn to all the saints of Hilltop, and the Chancel Choir is singing on behalf of the entire congregation as a gift back to them for this extraor-dinary privilege.
Chancel Choir received the piece a bit later than anticipated, but our work has been brought into focus by an awareness of what a complete honor it is to have the opportunity to premiere a new piece of music. The style in which the piece is written has provid-ed interesting challenges, and also much fun.
Thank you, Pastor Dennis and Marilyn, for a gift that will bring you and your time at Hilltop back to mind every time we, and choirs across the world, sing this hopeful and promising mes-sage!

In the summer of 2018, after Marilyn and I had made the deci-sion to retire in 2019, we approached composer Mark Miller about doing a commissioned piece. We were thinking a piece to remember (in gratitude) the musical life at Hilltop from the time we were here until our departure. We were honored when he said “yes.”
Two of Mark Miller’s compositions, Draw the Circle Wide, and I Believe, were important pieces that framed our time here.

First Time at Hilltop? We are so glad you decided to worship with us today and extend you a very special welcome. Please stop by the Welcome Center outside the sanctuary following worship so we can get to know you. Also please sign the friendship pads as they come down the pew. We won’t bombard you with mail and calls, but we do want to follow up and thank you for coming.
One Worship Service There will be only one worship service at 10:00 am today through July 28. Mark your calendars!
The scripture we gave Mark to help him understand Hilltop was Joshua 24:15b: “but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” We felt that God isn’t finished with Hilltop yet, and be-cause of who Hilltop is, she will continue to serve the Lord. Hilltop knows Wilderness. In fact, I consistently hear in her story Exodus, Wilderness, and the Oasis in Exodus 15:27.
Her history may have at times been rocky but, at her core, she understands how to be “church.” In her rocky times, she has cho-sen the Lord.
We hope this musical gift back to Hilltop will, over time, be shared here and with other congregations around the world as they hear the joy and inspiration of Mark’s brilliant artistic touch.

Saying Farewell The Staff Parish Relations Committee will hold an open house today from 12:00-3:00 pm on with refreshments and we’ll have some formal words of gratitude for Pastor Dennis and Marilyn in Fellowship Hall at 1:30 pm, along with other surprises.

Welcome Pastor Lynn There will be a welcome potluck for our new Pastor Lynn
Miller-Jackson on Sunday, July 7, following her first service at 10:00 am. Donations are welcome to help defray the costs of this event. Any donations received above the cost will be left in the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, which is used for emergency support requests received by Pastor. If you’d like to make a donation, enter “Pastor welcome," on check or envelope. Questions about donations or details can be sent to [email protected].
Ada Room Renovations Good news...a member of the congregation has recently pledged $3,000 toward the ultimate goal of $6,000 for the Ada Room wall and door renovation project, which has now reached the half way point. Recently, another section of the present folding parti-tion had to be removed for safety reasons. We need your help to reach our goal and hopefully complete this work in the very near future. Please consider this project when giving. Mark your checks “Ada Room”; or when using Square, use the custom field and mark “Ada Room”.

Vacationing This Summer? Don't forget Family Promise as you leave your hotel. We give out shampoo/conditioner/lotion samples to our families when the stay at the Hilltop House. Please help us and collect those un-used items from your hotel. You can give them to Kris Garrison ([email protected] ) or Carol Ann Langford ([email protected])...or just leave them in our boxes in the Fellowship Hall. Thank you and have a great trip!
Abundant Life Ministries The Abundant Life Center serves villages in an impoverished area of Malawi, helping people improve their lives by provid-ing/promoting food and clean water, education, life and voca-tional skills, and spiritual nurturing. Hilltop has a goal of donat-ing $5000 to Abundant Life Malawi for the purchase of blankets and mosquito nets. Donations may be made at the information display in the narthex, in the worship offering plates or via credit card on the HUMC website. *Cash - place in a donation envelope from the pew and write "Abundant Life" on the envelope *Check - make payable to Hilltop UMC and note "Abundant Life" on the memo line *Credit card - use the "Donate" feature on the HUMC website for the Custom Donation and note "Abundant Life" as the recipient
Music News Summer Singers is underway! Join us this Thursday at 7:00 pm. Summer Singers is an inter-generational ensemble that leads worship during the summer months. Participation is flexible, and all are welcome! Contact Roberta Shimensky (801.571.5777 x3 or <[email protected]>)
Voice Class is held each Friday at 7:30 pm for anyone who would like to learn more about singing and improve vocal skills. For all levels - beginner to advanced. Class is led most Fridays by Dr. Daniel Tuutau. Contact Roberta (see above) for more infor-mation. $15/class.

United Methodist Men’s Monthly Breakfast There will be no men’s breakfast for the months of June, July, and August.
Youth Corner Summer Break ~ June 16 – July 7. Sunday school will resume on July 14. Watch your bulletin, e-mails, texts, and our Face Book page for summer activities. Mark your calendars for July 16, 17, & 18, 10 am – 2 pm ~ we will meet to help craft the set designs and decorations for Vacation Bible School. Lunch will be provided, so please let Jen know in advance in you plan on attending.
Children’s Ministries Summer Schedule Sunday School is on Summer break through July 28 and will re-sume August 4 when we return to two worship services. Children’s Church will continue through the summer. Volun-teers are needed to teach and coordinate crafts. Lesson plans and craft ideas provided. Vacation Bible School To Mars and…Beyond July 28 – August 2, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm Registration is now open at www.hilltopumchurch.org. Voyagers will discover a new realm of possibilities as they reach for the stars and encounter the limitless power and love of God.

Mission U Ogden First UMC is hosting Mission u on Saturday, August 10. We'd love to have you spend the day with us! Attached you will find the descriptions of the two courses that will be offered, a registration form, and information about how to order the course books. Please help us advertise this event in your church, so we can have a good turn-out and a great event!
The Life You Save May Be Your Own Hilltop has recently created a Safety & Security Committee to ensure that our building is safe and we know what to do in case of an emergency. They would like to purchase a defibrillator and first aid kit and would appreciate your donations in Fellowship Hall.
Planter Parents Three forlorn planters need parents to take care of them by keep-ing the weeds out. Sign up for one of the planters on the bulletin board in the hall with the planter schematic.
Weeds Taking Over If you don’t believe me, look at the area behind the paper recy-cling bin. AWFUL!! Mayday, mayday, the gardeners need rein-forcements; we can’t keep up. We meet as a group every Thurs-day 8-10:00 am and can share our tools. Or come another time and whack a weed or fifty.
