Parking and Safety of Children

I must remind our community that the mornings and afternoons are an extremely busy time of the day for schools. Children are coming to and from school and we need to consider their safety as they aren’t always fully aware of the dangers.

I have recently had some complaints to the school about cars being double-parked, cars traveling too fast in the school zone and general unsafe practices around the school boundaries. I also need to ask all parents and carers not to park or drop off their children in the staff car park.

Please assist the school by enforcing safe practices during these times. The extra couple of minutes of inconvenience is a lot better than the alternative which it everyone’s worst nightmare.

School Times.

We have noticed an increase in the number of children coming to school late each day. It is vitally important that all children arrive at school on time as lessons start promptly.

Children late to school miss out on vital information and direction from the teacher and they start each morning behind their classmates. They then need to play catch up which isn’t ideal.

I thank everyone for your anticipated co-operation with this issue.

Thank you,

Paul Sweeney Principal

OPENS RUGBY LEAGUE STATE KNOCKOUT – CLASSIC SHIELD

Our Opens Rugby League team travelled to Bega last Thursday to play three rounds of the Classic Shield State Knockout. The boys had a comprehensive victory over Bega Valley PS in the first game followed by a bye in the second game which put Narooma PS straight through to the final.

The final was played in very windy conditions with Narooma PS narrowly defeated by Pambula PS after a shortened game. Although the boys didn’t come away with a victory, they can be very proud of their efforts and sportsmanship on the day.

Special thanks to Mr. Barry for his assistance in coaching and preparing the team and to all the parents for their support and transport .

Trevor Neville (Coordinator)

Notification of Student Absences using

Mobile Phone Text Messages

At Narooma Public School, student attendance is a high priority. We know that students who attend regularly are more likely to be successful at school.

From this week, parents/carers will be informed by mobile phone message – Short Message Service (SMS) when their child is away from school.

The school would appreciate parents/caregivers contacting the school in advance if they know their child is going to be absent or late.

An SMS text message will be automatically sent to the mobile phones of parents/caregivers explaining that our records show that your child is absent from school. The message will read similar to the following:

Narooma Public School: Your child______________ was marked absent from school (date). Please reply to this message with an acceptable reason in line with the DoE requirements within 7 days.

When you receive a message from the school, press the reply option on your mobile phone, add your child’s name, a brief reason explaining their absence and date of absence:

e.g. Sample Student, Year 5 was sick yesterday 15/02/18

Please notify the school of your updated mobile phone number if you have not already done so.

Thank you for your assistance, cooperation and understanding as we implement this new procedure.

Narooma Public School P & C The next meeting of the P & C will be held on Tuesday, 12th June, at 7.00pm in the school staff room.
