  • Artist Statement

The past 25 years of my life have been dedicated to pursuing my passion for the

visual arts. I have been able to transform my passion for painting, history, and

culture into a successful business. I personally find and feel that art is a universal

language. Art communicates and articulates at each individual level of

comprehension and understanding. A child or an adult can look at a work of art

and find value in it because of their ability to relate to it. Art advocates it says

nothing but says everything. It speaks politically, culturally, economically, and

educationally. We learn through art: it is a tremendous, tangible treasure that

    improves our quality of life.

I like to think of myself as a creative historian. My craft has afforded me the

opportunity to record history and all aspects of American culture and heritage. My

sole purpose has always been to educate and provide cultural enrichment through

    my art.

    --Ted Ellis

  • Ted EllisFueled by his passion for his family and his

heritage; enabled by his artistic skill and

commitment to excellence, Ted Ellis paints

subjects that are representative of the many

facets of American life, particularly, African-

American culture and history as he knows it.

Growing up in New Orleans, a city known for

its rich African American history, Ted was

exposed to artistic exuberance on a daily basis.

This backdrop inspired Ellis to capture the

essence of the subjects of his childhood in their

glorious, rich cultural heritage. Dedicated to

his craft, the artist exploits a stylistic synergy,

born in his childhood from impressions of his

beloved Crescent City. A self-taught artist who

boldly blends realism and impressionism in his

work, Ellis masterpieces evokes nostalgia and

    inspiration.

Currently residing right outside of Houston in

Friendswood, Texas, Ellis is an award-winning

and revered artist who has been commissioned

by well-known brands such as Walt Disney

Studios, The Minute Maid Company, Coca-

Cola, Phillip Morris, and Avon, Incorporated.

Houston Artist to Exhibit at US Senate Building in Honor of Juneteenth

Ted Ellis Juneteenth Freedom Series will be on display at the Russell Rotunda in June

HOUSTON, Texas, May 21, 2015Ted Ellis, art ambassador for the National Juneteenth Organization, has been

selected to exhibit ten of his original paintings at the Russell Senate Office Building from June 15 19. Senator

John Cornyn (R TX) and his staff from the State of Texas were instrumental in securing the exhibit.

June 19 marks the 150th Anniversary of Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when General Gordon Granger read General

Orders, No. 3 in Galveston, Texas proclaiming the official abolishment of slavery, almost two years after President

Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

The Juneteenth Freedom Series features ten iconic works of art that depicts the African American experience from

the start of slavery until the election of the United States first Black President.

We learn through art: it is a tremendous, tangible treasure that improves our quality of life, says Ellis, who was

also commissioned to paint the commemorative piece for the 50th Anniversary of Selma earlier this year. I like to

consider myself a creative historian. My perspective on historical occurrences and a purveyor of the human

experience in visual arts enables me to help others see the world through another persons eyes.

The Juneteenth Freedom Project is a stunning and historically inspired visual anthology depicting the

four hundred year journey from slavery through freedom to the election of the first African American

    President of the United States.

Ted Ellis compiled these works in honor of Galvestons sesquicentennial celebration of Juneteenth,

the day of General Gordon Grangers reading of General Orders, No. 3, which proclaimed the

abolishment of slavery on June 19, 1865 in Galveston, Texas.

This thought provoking, historical collection of paintings is available for $1.5 million. Ellis hopes a

potential buyer would make the works available for donation to the Smithsonian National Museum of

African-American History and Culture that is scheduled to open in Washington, DC in 2016.
