THE BAND PLAYED ON Congratulations to the Band & Chorus students on many fantastic performances last Saturday. The Jazz Band & Chorus both received 1st Superiors and all the solos and ensembles earned a superior or a 1st for their performance. I was VERY proud of all of our students. They not only performed well, but they also represented Germantown very well with their behavior and musicality. Thank you to those parents that helped in the gym and to Jen & John Arentsen who saw to it that the Jazz instruments were returned to our school when the bus returned. The uniform fitting for ALL band students in 4th through 8th grade is next Tuesday, March 7th. It is important that everyone gets fitted on that day, so we are ready for band pictures and the organization contest at the end of March. The information with times, etc. went home on Tuesday. It is also on my web page. Note: The 4th, 5th, and possibly 6th grade students WILL be after school. I will make sure the volleyball players are finished in time for their game. Thank you to all who are working their shifts at the volleyball concessions. Uniform fitting day is March 7th after school. “PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT”

5th grade will finish with DARE classes on Tuesday. Thank you to Chief

Wuebbles for doing a great job.

All classes are now finished with health for the 3rd quarter. The 4th

quarter classes will be Game Plan for the 8th graders, please look for

information regarding a parent information night soon.

All classes will also complete First Aid/CPR training at the firehouse

    before the end of school.

    THE BAND PLAYED ON

Congratulations to the Band & Chorus students on many fantastic

performances last Saturday. The Jazz Band & Chorus both received 1st

Superiors and all the solos and ensembles earned a superior or a 1st for

their performance. I was VERY proud of all of our students. They not only

performed well, but they also represented Germantown very well with

their behavior and musicality. Thank you to those parents that helped in

the gym and to Jen & John Arentsen who saw to it that the Jazz

instruments were returned to our school when the bus returned.

    “PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT”

  • 7th Language Arts: We will continue preparing to attack the PARCC test. We have

learned some wonderful strategies that can help us do our best in future assessments

in the classroom and out of the classroom. We will continue to apply the strategies we

have learned for drafting thorough written responses.

7th Literature: We will continue to read and discuss To Kill a Mockingbird by

Harper Lee in class. Over the course of the year, the entire class has made great

strides in meeting the standards set before them. One area that I will continue to

challenge them on, however, pertains to self-motivation and independence. This does

not mean that I will not be addressing student concerns about the content or nature of

a task, but that I will be promoting the students to be independent and confident in

the responses. It is my hope that by the end of the year, they will be as confident in

their abilities as I have been all year long.

8th Language Arts: We will continue preparing to attack the PARCC test. We have

learned some wonderful strategies that can help us do our best in future assessments

in the classroom and out of the classroom. We will continue to apply the strategies we

have learned for drafting thorough written responses.

8th Literature: We are continuing to read and discuss the novel The Outsiders by

    S. E. Hinton. There will be a quiz on Tuesday over Vocab2 (Ch 5-8). I am continually

impressed by their ability to lead a productive Socratic Seminar discussion. Great job

everyone! Next week, we will once again analyze how particular lines of dialogue

within the text propel the action, reveal aspects of a character, or provoke a decision

    (RL 8.3).

Keep in mind that the end of the quarter is quickly approaching, so it is

very important to complete your AR reading every night!

5th LA: We will start the period this week with Study Island. You will

receive your tracking sheet on Tuesday. Please bring it everyday. They will be

due on Friday. For the rest of the period, we will continue working with

constructive answers and narrative tasks using the PARCC rubrics for

    writing.

6th ELA: We will start our afternoon with DOL week 12. Tuesday we will

have our quiz over the PARCC vocabulary words. We will also head to the lab

on Tuesday for Study Island working with literary point of view. On

Wednesday, we will take a paper PARCC assessment for a test grade. As for

Thursday and Friday, I have taken some standards that I believe we need

the most work with and will make stations. The standards are: RI.6.5, RI.6.9,

L.6.5, RI.6.2, RL.6.2, and RI.6.3. These are the standards we will be

reviewing in the stations. AR countdown: 2 weeks

Remember, we are shooting for 100% of our goals in AR this

quarter, so please read every night!!

5th Grade Literature: Next week, the students will take the Unit 3 practice PARCC exam. After that, as a whole group, we will dissect their strategies in answering each question. 5th Grade Math: Next week, the students will begin the final two standards of the year focusing on geometry. Classifying 2-dimensional figures according to their attributes will be the main topic. Angles will also be discussed. After this week, the students will be reviewing all of the 5th grade standards to better prepare them not only for the PARCC, but for success in the upcoming grades as well.

Study Island: Multiply Fractions, Divide Fractions, Interpret Fractions as Division, Multiply and Divide Decimals, Represent and Interpret Data, Order of Operations, and 2-D Shapes

(Even 10-15 minutes each night would be greatly beneficial!)

  • MR. GLYNN’S SOCIAL STUDIES SCOOP

5th: This week we will be comparing the economy of the Northern states and

the Southern states in the mid to late 1800’s (RI.5.3). Students will begin to

that eventually led to the Civil War.

6th: We will be continuing our unit on the Middle Ages. Students will be

examining major events of the Middle Ages. They will connect how these events

    have influenced our life today(RI.6.1).

7th: We will be continuing on the Colonization of America. Students will be

learning the conditions the Pilgrims dealt with. Students will study the colonists

relationships with Native Americans and the positives and negatives that came

with moving to the New World (RI.7.3)

8th: We will continue our unit on World War II. This week we continue

focusing on The Holocaust. Students will be analyzing first hand accounts of

individuals in concentration camps and resistors( RI.8.3).

    Student Council

6th grade: Students will be beginning to learn about statistical questions and

how to describe data based on it’s center, spread and overall shape. There is a

    possible quiz/assessment this week. (6.SP.1, 2)

Study Island– Statistical Questions, Data Distribution, Coordinate Geometry,

Surface area, Area and Volume (Any concepts covered so far!)

Sampling Analysis, Comparing Statistics, and Compound Events (Any concepts

    covered so far!)

8th grade: Students will be using similar triangles to explain why the slope is

the same. If time, we will begin systems of linear equations. There is a possible

    quiz/assessment this week. (8.EE.6)

Study Island– Linear Relationships, Describe Functions, Understanding

Functions, and Compare Functions (Any concepts covered so far!)

Algebra: Students will be learning about the Pythagorean theorem and

operations with radicals in chapter 10.

    6th-8th grade math parents:

Pi Day is quickly approaching! If you would like to donate a pie for your

student’s class to enjoy on March 14th, I politely ask that you limit your donation

to one pie per student. Last year, we had an over abundance of pie and I would

like to minimize the waste this year. Thank you so much, and please do not feel

    obligated to provide a pie.
