State law requires that a student between the ages of 6 and 19 attend school, as well as any applicable accelerated instruction program, extended year program, or tutorial session, unless the student is otherwise excused from attendance or legally exempt.Must attend at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered.Make up hours will be required in order to receive credit for days missed over THE REQUIRED 10%
Excused Absences
State law allows exemptions to the compulsory attendance requirements for several types of absences if the student makes up all work. HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT
● Students can request a high school transcript through Naviance. They will either be sent electronically or through the mail depending on how the college accepts them.
● It is usually recommended to wait until you have submitted your application for admission before requesting your transcript.

● Essay A: Tell us your story. What unique opportunities or challenges have you experienced throughout your high school career that have shaped who you are today?
● Essay B: Most students have an identity, an interest, or a talent that defines them in an essential way. Tell us about yourself.

TSI
● The TSI or Texas Success Initiative is used to determine if a student is ready for college-level coursework in the areas of reading, math and writing.

WHAT IS FINANCIAL AID?
Federal, state, institutional, and private fund(s) used to assist eligible students in funding their education. Financial aid can be a combination of scholarships, grants, loans, waivers, and student employment.
APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID

HOW IS AID DETERMINED
The EFC (expected family contribution) is determined by looking at your family’s income, assets, and benefits and how many people you have in the household and how many will attend college during the year.
COA (cost of attendance) - EFC = financial need

JUNIOR/SENIOR TIMELINE
● Fall 2019: Take the PSAT and start a list of colleges/careers of interest in Naviance.
● Winter 2019: Stay involved, log volunteer hours, organize college/career lists on Naviance, and prepare for standardized tests (ACT, SAT, AP, TSI).
● Spring 2020: Search and apply for scholarships on Naviance, visit colleges, register for senior year, gather letters of recommendation, and begin application essays.
● Summer 2020: Visit colleges, apply for scholarships, and work on applications and essays.
● Fall/Winter 2020: Visit the schools, complete/follow up on applications submit financial aid (FAFSA) forms.
● Spring 2021: Compare financial aid packages, make your final decision, and GRADUATE!
NCAA AND NAIA● Students interested in playing Division I or II
sports in college MUST register online for the clearinghouse BEFORE recruiters can talk to students or coaches regarding students.
