ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE
JUNIOR SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY FACILITATOR 2011
Role Description
The technology facilitator works in a collaborative role with classroom andspecialist teachers to authentically embed technology into the classroomexperience for all students and teachers. Together, they bring new andinnovative ideas into the classroom, learning new ways to meet the needsof all students, and exploring the possibilities to connect, communicateand create on a global scale. This collaborative partnership is a powerfultool to increase student learning by combining the expertise of multipleeducators. Opening the doors to individual classrooms is the first steptowards transformative use of technology and embracing the changesthat technology is bringing to our world. Collaboration allows thefacilitator to interact with students and teachers across grade levels,whilst also developing a deeper understanding of the PYP curriculum andthe needs of all teachers and students. It is critical that the facilitator is aneducator who is focused on guiding the use of technology to improvepedagogy and learning.
The facilitator:
is an idea generator, developing creative ways to meet thearticulated learning goals through the use of technology
understands the needs of todays learner
is an educational technology expert and can articulate the schoolstechnology goals and standards
is knowledgeable about technology tools and how they work mosteffectively in a classroom environment
models the effective use of technology in the classroom designs virtual learning spaces is the technology leader for the Junior School and tirelessly
promotes technology in all areas
The responsibilities of the Technology Facilitator are:
Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and understanding of conceptsrelated to technology (as described in the ISTE InternationalEducational Technology Standards for Teachers)
Be familiar with the PYP curriculum framework and its conceptualunderstandings and learning intentions
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the NationalEducation Technology Standards (NETS) and performance indicatorsfor students
Develop IT specific goals and standards for the P-2 years and beable to articulate these
Recommend ways that IT specific standards can be embedded intospecific UoIs and Stand Alone Units

Ensure horizontal and vertical alignment of technology standardsacross the P-2 years
Design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities thatapply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support thediverse needs of learners
Develop instructional material and resources to infuse authentictechnology and information literacy tools and experiences to meetthe needs of the core PYP curriculum framework
Provide teachers with a variety of strategies to use to managestudent learning in a technology-enhanced environment andsupport them as they implement the strategies
Model and assist teachers in the use of technology tools to assessstudent learning of subject matter using a variety of assessmenttechniques
Guide teachers as they use technology resources to collect and
analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings toimprove instructional practice and maximize student learning Develop a flexible model of support that involves whole class, small
group, individual, classroom or lab-based, and cross-grade levelexperiences in both curricular and co-curricular areas of the JuniorSchool
Recommend policies and implement school/classroom strategies forachieving equitable access to technology resources for all studentsand teachers in the Junior School
Use major research findings and trends related to the use oftechnology in education to support integration throughout the
curriculum Assist in the design and development of Web pages (including blogs
and wikis) and sites that support student and staff learning, andenhance communication between the school and community
Provide differentiated staff professional development to ensure thatteachers are able to develop and deliver authentic learningexperiences and are familiar with the use of the technology
Attend year-level and P-2 curriculum planning sessions to supportthe implementation of technology in planning documents
Demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to
stay abreast of current and emerging technologies Model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use
Promote safe and healthy use of technology resources Identify instructional technology and resources to support and
enhance the school curriculum and develop recommendations forpurchase
Provide leadership and collaborate with the Director of ICT todevelop, implement, and update a school instructional technologyplan aligned with the system-level technology plan
