The Wimbledon Club
Junior Tennis
Information Pack
The Wimbledon Club
The Wimbledon Club is a community amateur sports
club run by its members with separate sections for
tennis, squash, cricket, hockey and gym.
The club facilities include a first floor bar and restaurant
with balconies overlooking the tennis courts and cricket
field and extensive changing room and shower facilities.
The tennis section has 7 grass courts, 7 artificial clay (3
bubbled in the winter), 1 acrylic court, an indoor sports
hall (used by all sports) and a hitting wall area with a
mini-red court.
The club is committee led with the tennis programme
and coaches being managed by the Tennis Director.
There are 4 coaches working in the club: a head junior
coach; a head adult coach; a performance coach and a
club coach. All work within the junior programme.
Junior Programme Details
The Wimbledon Club has a junior development
programme that runs throughout the week during term
time for members of all ages and abilities. Players
attend ‘Hotshots’, ‘Academy’ or ‘Performance’ sessions
depending on their level.
Social Mix-ins are coach-led and run on Friday evenings
on a turn up and play basis. Junior team training is by
invitation and runs on Saturday mornings.
Junior Camps are run during school holidays and are
open to members and non-members.
Hotshots Squads
Mini Red (5-8yrs) Mon & Wed 3.45 - 4.30pm
Mini Orange (8-9yrs) Mon & Wed 4.30 - 5.15pm
Mini Green (9-10yrs) Mon & Wed 5.15 - 6pm
Junior (11-14yrs) Mon & Wed 5.15 - 6pm
These sessions are designed for players who are starting
out in the game of tennis and focus on developing a
player’s agility, balance, co-ordination, racket skills and
technique.
Players who reach the higher ends of the Hotshots
programme will be able to start to play points and score
their own matches.
The sessions are run in a fun and friendly environment,
using the LTA/ITF recommended equipment and court
sizes for the age of the child. We use the LTA mini tennis
rally awards to design the programme at the club.
Red Hotshots are run with a ratio of 8 children to 1 full
tennis court and 1 coach. Orange, green and junior
Hotshots are run with a ratio of 6 children to 1 full court
and 1 coach.
Academy Squads (by invitation)

Players wishing to join in the Academy programme must
be assessed by the coaching team to be of the
appropriate level to join the sessions. This is normally
done through playing in the junior programme on a
Monday or Wednesday night, or through an individual
lesson.
Players in the academy will be starting to play 2 or more
times in a week and have developed to a level to be able
to serve cross court, rally with a partner from the
baseline on the appropriate sized court, be able to score
points, have good focus and concentration and want to
be on the court developing. Players in these groups will
be able to play matches.
These sessions are aimed at developing the player’s
ability to compete and understand the fundamental
skills behind playing points, matches and tournaments.
Red Academy sessions are run on a ratio of 8 children to
1 coach. All other academy sessions are run with a
maximum of 6 players per court and a maximum of 8
children to 1 coach.

coach.
