FROM MANAGEMENT
Sometimes a trip to the store means grab-bing a bottle of milk on your way home after work, and we are more than happy to get you in and out the door as quickly as possible. But other times, you go to the store in search of a new idea for supper or a delicious way to add healthier in-gredients to your diet. As the staff of JLF, we are there to answer your questions.
After all, those of us you see in the store every day selected the products we sell. We strive to provide you with the widest possible selection of local and organic products. We cook with the products we represent and are excited to share our culinary success stories with you. Our local farmers and suppliers are our friends, our customers, and the very reasons we exist. We have a more intimate relationship with the food we supply than any other grocer in the Chippewa Valley. You can trust us and everything in our store.
In short, our name is our mission: Justly produced and distributed; sourced Locally first; (Food) energy for enjoying and sustain-
ing life; (Co-op) owned by the community we serve. The “Triple Bottom Line” sets us apart from other businesses and grocers: we care about the profit of our Land, our Com-munity, and our Economy. When you shop at our store, you invest in all three, support-
ing a cause bigger than your stomach.
As the employees of Just Local Food, we are passion-ate about what we do and always eager to learn more.
We are personable, quirky, honest, knowl-edgeable, and authentic; we provide commu-nity at the front desk and on the sales floor. We genuinely want to know what products you like, how you cook them, and how they make you feel. There is a board by the checkout line for you to post feedback and suggestions so we can improve your shop-ping experience.
Thank you for your support in making the Chippewa Valley a better place.

A LETTER FROM THE BOARDBy Fred SklenarFellow owners, with some warming up here in mid-February, we hope your winter has been going well and look forward to a blos-soming spring. As you may know, our little co-op has been working through a very challenging time with the entrance of a big box on the hill and other com-petition in the marketplace.
As this period of change goes on in our community, our man-agement has been working hard to focus our purchasing on the goods you want while tightening up on those items that may not be selling so well. They have trimmed labor and re-targeted marketing tasks, as well as freshened up the produce section—all in an effort to continue to bring you, our community, what you have come to know and love of Just Local Food.
We are not going to sugarcoat the fact that grocery, co-op, and retail business in gen-eral is difficult right now across the whole country. Despite this, we are still here. As of this writing, our ownership has ris-en to 581 owners with a few dozen new owners since the beginning of the year. Tell a friend—let’s grow that number!
Your board of directors is working on the recruitment of a General Manager who can further lead our management group in the great work they do every day to bring you fresh, nutritious, and local products. Management and the board recently con-ducted a Visioning and Mission planning day-long session, and we will be framing that for presentation at the annual meeting
later this spring. Eau Claire and our co-op are looking forward to an optimistic future of success together and we certainly need your help to shop, shop, shop in the store
and bring on new owners to be part of our future. Get the word out!
If you have an inter-est in being part of our board, we are looking to fill three spots as some
of our board are retiring from service. Let the staff
know if you are interested and we can get you an application.
Applications are due by April 15th.
The board, management and staff are ded-icated to providing you with great service and are looking forward to plans to ex-pand in the next few years. We are excit-ed about all that is going on in Eau Claire and to be part of the city’s redevelopment. We are looking for professional grant writers to tap into some of the programs that are available. If you have success-ful experience with grant writing or know someone who does, please let us know.
Our shared future is just as much in your hands as it is in the hands of our board, man-agement, staff and suppliers of our prod-ucts, so come on in and shop. Tell us what you would like to see in the store. Tell us what we could do better. And when you are shopping please note that adding one more $5 item to your basket goes a long way to supporting your co-op and all that we can be.
Lastly, but most importantly, we thank you for being part of our wonderful story.
VENDOR PROFILEWater Street Deli
When you walk in the door to the Water Street Deli & Grocery, you will be greeted by enticing aromas and smiling faces. This is no surprise, be-cause this is the home of the most au-thentic, mouthwatering Middle East-ern and Mediterranean food in Eau Claire, if not the Chippewa Valley.
Sam, the head cook and manager, be-came interested in food from watch-ing his mother cook back home in Palestine. He has been sharing the foods he loves with our community since 2009, and continues to ex-pand the wholesale business while selling his products in more stores.
If you haven’t been, stop over at 628 Water Street for lunch or din-ner Tuesday through Saturday.
At Just Local Food, the Water Street Deli is most famous for:
HummusSmooth, rich, creamy. Flavors include regu-lar (garlic), garlic with pine nuts, and spicy.
Pita ChipsCrunchy and addictive. Excellent plain or as a vehicle for anything. The perfect party food.
FalafelPackaged to go with zingy tahini sauce. Energizing lunch or snack.
