Just Us Two By Nicholas
Minnesota has always been a fun place to visit, anytime
during the year, but I especially love the cold winters there. I was fortunate enough to go last December with my Dad, just the two of us. He is not always around and this was going to be some serious father / son action. Minnesota has the coldest recorded winter temperature in America. It is so cold, the kind where you lose your dog in a snow bank, or lose your boot when you pull your foot out of the snow.
Anyway, back to the point, my dad and I did a lot of things together. We went sledding in St. Paul, and to a history and science museum where we learned about volcanos. I found out that when volcanoes erupt they deposit bacteria that helps life form and because of them; we might not be here now. At the same museum we learned about dinosaurs and that a dinosaur’s stomach is about ten times bigger than Mr. Murphy (I have pictures of me in a replica stomach).
My dad and I bought a portable hockey set and played many games and he beat me every time. He said when he was young he played a lot with his brothers. My dad bought me lots of things. My favorite toy was called “Hex Bugs”. They are battery-‐powered bugs and, if you put them on your hand, it would vibrate and feel goooood. My dad also took me to my favorite restaurant called Snuffy’s, which has the best burgers and malts. Cheeseburgers are my favorite food and that is one reason I love Snuffy’s so much.
Every time we crossed a bridge in the car we played a game where I tried to hold my breath until we crossed the other side, even on the longest bridges. I also got to spend
time with my Grammy and Grandpy; my Grandpy was crazy about his heat tapes, which are used to melt snow on the roof and his were not working very well. My Grammy would always talk whenever she could, but I liked it.
All in all I loved Minnesota and it is my favorite state in
the U.S. I had jet lag the whole two weeks I was there but it was still a lot of fun. Just with the two of us. Nothing serious, except serious fun. That is the way life should be.
