The material is well-organized and accompanied by uncomplicated line drawings. Learning objectives are provided at the beginning of each of the nine chapters on anatomy and the one chapter on embryology. Clinical Dysmorphology of Oral-Facial Structures. Mel- nick M. Shields ED, Burzinski NJ, eds.. with 23 contrib- utors. John Wright-P% Inc., 1982, 543 pages. 289 illus- trations, $54.50 The information needed to understand the complex problems associated with malformations of the oral-facial complex is presented. A discussion of human genetic principles is followed by extensive contributions on the clinical approach to dysmorphogenesis. This is accom- panied by discussion of the diagnosis and treatment of the various oral-facial malformations. A chapter on ge- netic counseling is also included. Iontophoresis in Dental Practice. Gangarosa LP, Chicago, Quintessence Publishing Co., Chicago, 1983, 142 pages, illustrated. This monograph deals with the technique of delivering certain medications to surface tissues in therapeutically effective levels that ordinarily would not penetrate or would penetrate too slowly to be of value. The principles of iontophoresis are discussed, as well as their applica- tion in anesthetizing oral mucosa and in treating aphthous ulcers, lichen planus, and the oral lesions of herpes sim- plex. Psychological Approaches to the Management of Pain. Barber J, Adrian C, eds., with 11 contributors. New York, Brunner/Mazel Publishers, 1983,230 pages, $20.00. This book presents ways in which the principles of be- havioral science can be used to better understand and treat patients who have acute and chronic pain. In addi- tion to providing behavioral treatment strategies, it shows how psychological and medical management can be suc- cessfully integrated for total care of these patients. Osteochondral Allografts: Biology, Banking, and Clin- ical Applications. Friedlaender GE, Manskin HJ, and Sell TW, eds., with 60 contributors. Boston. Little. Brown and Co., 1983, 403 pages, illustrated, $58.50 The chapters in this book provide information re- garding the current state of the art and science of osteo- chondral allograft transplantation. Various sections deal with the basic biology and immunobiology of bone and cartilage, technical aspects of tissue procurement and storage, methods of reducing immunogenicity, and anal- ysis of complications. There is also an extensive section on the clinical applications and surgical approaches used with these allografts. Juxtaoral Organ: Morphological and Clinical Aspects. Zenker W. Baltimore, Urban and Schwarzenberg, 1982, 109 pages, illustrated, paperback, $22.50 This small monograph is devoted to a detailed discus- sion of a little-known anatomical structure located in the buccotemporal fascia close to the site where the parotid duct penetrates the buccinator muscle. Its clinical signif- icance lies in the fact that the normal polymorphism of the structure can lead to its being interpreted as invasive squamous cell carcinoma when included in a biopsy or surgical specimen.
