The theme of the exhibition was on Natural Resource Management for Sustainable Agricultural Development. Technologies on Soil and Water Conservation, Rain Water Harvesting, Organic Farming and Alternate Land Use System were displayed in the Exhibition. Value added products of amla, tamarind, foxtail millet and wheat were also displayed Shri Sharad Pawar, Honorable Union Minister for Agriculture and Food Processing, Government of India, Shri Ajit Pawar, Honorable Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Maharashatra, Smt Supriya Sule, Member of Parliament, Dr. S. Ayyappan, Director General, ICAR, New Delhi, Dr. K.D. Kokate, Deputy Director General, (Agri Extension), ICAR, New Delhi, Dr. Sreenath Dixit, Zonal Project Director, Zone-VIII, Bangalore and other Dignitories and Scientists visited the Stall. About 5000 farmers and students visited the Stall during the two days event. With the support of ICAR, New Delhi and it’s Host Organization, KVK has been addressing the issues through need based On-Farm Testing, Front Line Demonstrations, Trainings of Farmers & Farm women, Vocational Trainings for youths and production & supply of technological products. Dissemination of technologies and knowledge through organization of various extension activities is one of the important programme of KVK. To speed up the technology transfer process, every year KVK organizes “Technology Week” and showcases it’s technologies on relevant thematic areas suitable to Gadag district. KVK celebrated technology week for the year 2014 during Jan 24-28 in collaboration with ATMA, Department of Agriculture, Gadag district, Gadag. The event was inaugurated by Shri C.B. Balaraddi, Joint Director of Agriculture, State Department of Agriculture, Gadag. AGRICULTURAL EXHIBITIONOn the eve of Technology Week Celebration, KVK showcased its

technologies by putting Exhibition Stalls in the Kailash Ashram premises at Hulkoti on 28.01.2014. Technologies on soil and water conservation, dryland technologies, dry land horticulture, recharging techniques for open well and borewell, organic farming, value added products from agriculture produce and drudgery reduction equipments were exhibited in the Stalls. Live samples of improved genotypes of rabi jowar, wheat and bengalgram crops were kept in the Exhibition. One of the important theme of the exhibition was display of farm implements and equipments. Mini tractor, rotavator, rotoweeder, bund former, twin wheel hoe weedeer, cycle weeder, cotton picker, milking machine, grain storage drum and sickles were displayed in the Exhibition. Publications of KVK were kept for the benefit of the farmers. Display of Farmers’ Innovations on farm equipments was the major attraction.

Agricultural Exhibition was inaugurated by Shri H.K. Patil, Honorable Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Government of Karnataka under the auspicious presence of His Holiness Shri Jayendrepuri Swameeji, Tiruchimath, Bangalore. Shri D.R. Patil, Chairman, APMC, Gadag, Shri C.B. Balaraddi, JDA, Gadag and Shri C.G. Koravanavar, Chairman, ASF, Hulkoti and host of dignitories were present on the occasion. More than 8000 farmers and farmwomen visited the Exhibition

Dr. Kashinath Bhadrannavar, Deputy Director of Horticulture, State Department of Horticulture participated as Chief Guest. He requested the farmers to utilize the benefits of National Horticulture Mission for promotion of Horticulture Development in the district.

Shri C.G. Koravanavar, Chairman of Agriculture Science Foundation, presided over the function. Dr. L. G. Hiregoudar, Programme Coordinator welcomed the guests and briefed about the importance of Technology Week Celebration. On this occasion 4 publications of KVK in Kannada were released.

Technical Sessions on Natural Resource Management, Nutritional Security, Alternate Land Use Systems, Innovative Technologies on Horticultural crops were organized during the Technology Week. Exposure visits to KVK Demonstration Units and KVK Instructional Farm were also organized. More than 400 farmers and farmwomen participated in the technical sessions.

Ashwagandha crop can be profitably cultivated in the deep black soils under rainfed condition, opined the farmers of Jakkali village in Ron block who have participated under FLD programme on introduction of Ashwagandha crop (medicinal herb). Farmers expressed their opinion during field day event organized on 01.02.2014. Further, farmers say that the crop can come up very well under moisture stress situation and net profits are more than conventional crops of bengalgram, rabi sorghum and sunflower. Buyback arrangement of Ashwagandha has been made with Ashwagandha Growers Forum of Gadag district which has tied up with Natural Remedies (A company dealing with medicinal herbs).

Shri Rajendra Shirol, Progressive Farmer and President of Ashwagandha Growers’ Association of Gadag district participated as the guest.

More than 100 farmers of Jakkali and surrounding villages participated in the field day.

F r o n t L i n e Demonstrations on I n t e g r a t e d C r o p Management practice i n R a b i / S u m m e r groundnut was laid out in 4 hectare of area in Shirunja and Kadakol

village. TAG-24 variety was introduced with Integrated Nutrient Management and Management of collor rot and leaf minor. Ten farmers participated in the programme.

Front Line Demonstrations on Terrace Gardening were conducted in Gadag city. The objective of the demonstrations was to provide nu t r i t i on secur i t y through cultivation of vegetables on terrace u s i n g l o w c o s t materials. About 5 demonstrations were laid out.

FRONT LINE DEMONSTRATIONS

Dr. N. Nagaraj, Director of Extension, University of Agri-cultural Sciences, Bangalore led the team of 35 KVK faculty members to KVK for cross learning

of activities. The team comprised of Programme Coordinators and Subject Matter Specialist of KVKs under the jurisdiction of UAS, Bangalore

The team was briefed about the various activities of KVK and were exposed to demonstration units of artifical borewell recharging technologies, food p r o c e s s i n g , polyhouse, mixed orchard and KVK marketing outlet.

VISIT OF KVK FACULTY MEMBERS OF UAS, BANGALORE

TRAINING PROGRAMMESTraining on nutritional garden was organized on 25.01.2014 for 31

farmwomen of Shirunja village. About 36 women from Hulkoti village participated in a training on terrace garden on 30.01.2014. Training on post harvest technology and grain storge technology was held on 26.01.2014 for 49 farmwomen. Off-campus trainings on multiple income generation programme and improved dairy technology was held on 09.01.2014 in Shirunja village. Training programme on production technology of banana was held on 27.01.2014. Training on animal husbandry technologies was held for 50 livestock inspectors of Gadag district. Training on Bakery and Food Processing of 6 days duration was organized from 19-24 March for SHG members of Shagoti and Hulkoti villages and about 26 farmwomen participated in the training.

ACTION PLAN MEETING OF KVKKVK participated in pre-action plan meeting as

well as action plan meeting during 21-22 February

and 3-5 March, 2014 respectively. The meetings

were held at University of Agricultural Sciences,

Dharwad. All the technical programmes of KVK for

the year 2014-15 were presented and finalized with

necessary modifications as suggested by the Subject

Experts of UAS, Dharwad as well as the Principal

Scientists of Zonal Project Directorate, ICAR,

Bangalore.

SCIENTIFIC ADVIOSRY COMMITTEE MEETINGThe second Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting of KVK for the

year 2013-14 was held on 18.03.2014. Shri C.G. Koravanavar, Chairman

of KVK’s Host organization presided over the meeting.

Dr. L.G. Hiregoudar, Programme Coordinator, welcomed the members

and presented the technical programmes to be implemented during

2014-15. The members interacted over the proposed Action Plan

p r o g r a m m e s a n d p r o v i d e d n e c e s s a r y s u g g e s t i o n s .

Shri R.S. Ramamurthy, Chief Technical Officer, Zonal Project Directorate, Bangalore, Dr. P.S. Hugar, Professor,

University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, representatives of State Development Departments, Banks, Self

Management technologies involving balanced nutition, management of aphids and leaf spot were demonstrated.

FLD farmers expressed that Safflower is more remunerative crop and timely management of aphids would increase the profitability. KVK experts discussed with farmers on the adoption of technologies in the demonstration plots. Shri Shivanagappa Dodmeti, progressive farmer and convenor of Annadaneshwar Farmers’ Club of Jakkali village participated as the guest. More than 80 farmers participated in the event.

KVK success-fully conducted Front Line Demonstrations on Integrated Crop M a n a g e m e n t programme in JG -11 variety of bengalgram in Jakkali village of Ron block. A field day was organized to diffuse the successful technologies among the farming community.

Shri V.D. Vaikunthe, SMS (Agronomy) and Shri S.K. Mudlapur, SMS (Plant Protection) interacted with the FLD farmers as well as other farmers on the utility of technologies adopted in demonstration plots. FLD farmers provided feedback on successful management of wilt and pod borer which were the major problems in the crop. About 100 farmers of Jakkali and neighboring villages participated in the programme
