VETERAN TRIBUTE

Each year, it is the Buffalo ChipCampground’s honor to pay tributeto the men and women who protectour freedom. The concept of freedomis not lost on us nor on the bikers, tourists and locals who are our annu-al guests. Freedom is our most pre-cious American treasure. Those whosacrifice to protect that treasure areheld in our highest esteem.

To honor them, The United States Army Golden Knights precision parachute team will per-form a falling sky-dance into the Buffalo Chip’s future sports arena on Monday, August 9th. Atthe conclusion of the awesome performance, jumpers, veterans and tandem diving celebrities willmove to the Wolfman Jack stage where more Golden Knights will cascade into the amphitheater.

“God Bless America” will be proudly sung, followed by a demonstration of true Americanhorsepower as two United States Air Force B1-B Lancer Bombers will roar over the crowd. Wehave seen this before and are confident in guaranteeing goose bumps.

The honor guard from the United States Air Force will present a flag to Michael JohnFitzmaurice, who earned the United States Medal of Honor for his courage in the Vietnam War.

The family of people who make up the Buffalo Chip’s ownership, management and staff wishto sincerely thank The United States Army Golden Knights, The United States Air Force, and Lt.Col. Rory Adams in helping us honor those who have proudly served in our Armed Forces.

ENTERTAINMENT

STYX If you're sitting around thinking you've got "Too Much Time on My Hands" become a

"Renegade" and "Come Sail Away" to a vacation at the Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground, on

Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004. There's no question that you would be "Fooling Yourself" if you didn't understand

that such a trip would be the "Best Thing."

"Why Me?" you may be asking. Well, a "Blue Collar Man" like yourself must know that anyone but

"Mr. Roboto," would want to go to the Best Party Anywhere at the Chip and will, by the end of the night,

be begging your friends, "Don't Let It End."

There is little question that anyone who isn't living on "Borrowed Time," is likely to meet a "Babe" at

the Chip, perhaps named "Lorelei," who will be more than happy to oblige when you ask her to "Show

Me the Way." Now, she may not be "Miss America," but she's bound to be a "Lady."

Montgomery Gentry – “Hell Yeah” This band first took the stage

at the Legendary Buffalo Chip opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1998. They returned the following year once again in a

supporting role for Skynyrd. Now, with the release of their third album, My Town, the duo will headline at the Buffalo

Chip on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004.

Montgomery Gentry music is a reflection of American simple life. They have no illusions about who they - or their

fans - are. It's split-rail basic music made for people working 60 hour weeks, needing that 10-20 hours of overtime to

make ends meet. They're people who work hard, love hard, party hard and if life is hard, refuse to buckle under.

“There's heavy stuff in this world, man," said Gentry. "Me and Eddie, we're lucky. You think about what other people

have gone through and maybe what some record we've made has meant to them, and it makes you realize what this

music is really all about. It's not Eddie's and my music, it's theirs - and that's the way it should be."

ZZ Top known for its fierce energy, long beards and Texas_sized showmanship, will bring its Rock

'n' Roll Hall of Fame boogie to the Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground¨ on Monday, Aug. 9. ZZ Top has had

huge hits in each of three decades from the signature song, "La Grange" to "Tush," "Jesus Just Left Chicago,"

and "Cheap Sunglasses from the '70s, to "Tube Snake Boogie," "Pearl Necklace," Sharped Dressed Man,"

Gimme All Your Lovin', Got Me Under Pressure," "Legs," "Sleeping Bag," "Velcro Fly," and "Rough Boy"

from the '80s, to "Concrete & Steel," "Give It Up," "Tell It," "Fuzzbox VooDoo," "Cherry Red" and "PCH"

from the '90s. The band's recent release of “Mescalero”, shows there's no slowing down.

Beach Boys to surf into bikerland for Buffalo Chip Campground. America's

greatest party band, the Beach Boys, will finally play for the Best Party Anywhere, at the

Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground, Tuesday, Aug. 11. "The Beach Boys just put on one of

the best shows in rock. Their music is timeless and their execution is flawless," Rod Woodruff,

campground owner, said. "They truly are American legends. Rolling Stone praised 'the band's

unerring ability to surf the waves of commercial success and artistic development during the

'60s made them America's first, best rock band.'"

Heart has the right combination of raw, hard-driving rock talent, a string of

outstanding hits spanning three decades and a stage show that is second to none,"

Woodruff said. "They're not just coming to play the party, they're going to BE the party.

This show is simply going to kick butt."

Heart is not just a major act, they're pivotal icons in rock history," said Rod

Woodruff, campground owner. "Ann and Nancy Wilson first showed the world that

women can rock when Heart's hits like "Crazy on You, "Magic Man" and "Barracuda"

KID ROCK – American Bad Ass - bawdy, genre-blurring rock and country

superstar, Kid Rock will be performing on the Legendary Buffalo Chip stage. “Kid

Rock and his band are a sonic powerhouse perfect for the Buffalo Chip and Sturgis Rally

crowd. Who else can be a country rocker and a redneck rapper all at the same time?

He’s just not your average cowboy,” said Rod Woodruff, campground owner.

Venturing into Iraq to sign autographs, Kid Rock became a hero in his own rights when

he put on an impromptu concert using musical instruments designated for the troops.

NICKELBACK - A success story built on the road, on the radio and on

one band’s commitment to above all things, great rock songs.

“I think we still feel like we’ve already captured the brass ring and accomplished more

than we could have ever hoped for when we were first starting out,” said Chad Kroegger.

“We know we’ve made a great rock record. Now we’re just waiting to see how people

are going to cast their votes.”

Mike Kroeger adds, “We’re just doing what we do the best way we know how. We

don’t concern ourselves with what everyone else is doing. We’re just interested in

making rock solid and honest Nickelback records.”

George Thorogood & The Destroyers have been

rcking audiences for 30 years. On Sat. Aug. 14, 2004, they'll do it for the first time at the

Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground. With trademark hits like "Bad to the Bone," "I

Drink Alone," "One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer," "Reelin' and Rockin'," "Who

Do You Love," "Madison Blues," and "Move It On Over" featuring his wailing slide

guitar work and profoundly gritty vocals, Thorogood has demonstrated he knows how to

have a good time.

Bruce Johnson - All Roads lead to the Buffalo Chip:Hwy 34 - Ride through the state capital Pierre, with a beautiful free campground

next to the River in the city park. There’s great restaurants and recreational activities. The Chamber of Commerce has extremely helpful people with info about the whole state.Continue on through Hayes, SD and West. (Like Lewis and Clark on motorcycles.) Agreat run with gas and refreshments available along the way. The most beautiful part ofthe trip is crossing the Cheyenne River. Along the way is West Plum Creek, a historiccattle area, and a short ways before reaching T-34. You have to stop and see Gordon,Trudy and family, who will always be on hand to fill those empty gas tanks and thoseempty stomachs. Over the past twenty years, this highway has been improved with the wicked anglesstraightened and grade improvements. This makes for a smooth cruising experienceto sturgis. Space and Schlock journalist standards prevent any discussions of storiesinvolving porking of the speed limit which can certainly be done on this road. As a side thought, it seems some interesting things sort of happen along this route. We met an 85 year old Annie Oakley biker from Minnesota and a friend of mine helpeddeliver a baby along side of the road. You can rest assured, you can find your owninteresting activity along this two lane beauty of a ride and at the end of the road, isthe Buffalo Chip Campground, talk about convenient. Well – we’ve got miles to ride and “the Best Party on Earth to get to!”Bruce JohnsonTravel Editor

BONNIE’S NOTE: The last few pages of the Buffalo Chip Gazette / Sturgis Rider Newswill be dedicated to the people serving you on your travels. Included will be some ‘wellrode rides and some roads less traveled.’ For example, take Hwy 34 through the statecapital of Pierre, half way to Sturgis, stop at T-34, the little county stop with a big love forbikers. This highway leads straight to the Buffalo Chip, without going through downtowntraffic. It’s especially nice when you’re ready to set up camp. This route offers a greatday ride – over a hundred miles without a stop sign. Check out Highway 83, the Badlands and the unique sights along the way. Thearticle that follows is a much more delightful rendition by the Chip’s travel editor, BruceJohnson, Pierre. His lengthier version will be published on the web at a later date.
