• KHAKO began sheltering the homeless in 1986 utilizing an old church KHAKO began sheltering the homeless in 1986 utilizing an old church building in Pu’unene. Emergency ProgramEmergency Program• Clients have two options during their Emergency residency:

1. Plan on entering our long-term transitional program.2. Work on an Exit Plan with their case manager prior to

their 6 weeks.

• The client qualifies for the long-term transitional program by completing tasks set by the Emergency Case Manager; including weekly case management meetings, attendance at Life Skill and Adult Education classes, completing assigned chores (3 hours per week), and bringing in/working on such documents as TB clearance, I.D., & verification of income. An appropriate income stream allows the clients to pay program fees as they enter the long-term transitional program. In the final weeks of the Emergency program, participants will review their Action Plans (AP’s) and create a Budget. If the participant has completed all the requirements, then an interview will be scheduled with the Chief Operations Officer to determine if they qualify for the transitional program. .
