Memorial Day Weekend

Twelve Ainahau awesome members started at the shed to load the Hubbard‟s Truck & Trailer and the trunk of our cars/SUV with equip-ment and items. We headed to the freeway (22 to 57 to 60 to 10 or to 405 to 55 to 91 to 60 to 10). It took us approximately 1 ½ hours, bumper to bumper to get to Hampton Inn to check in then off to Noble Creek Park to set up our Food Booth. Had sunny weather on Saturday however, early Sunday morning surprised us with rain, a little cooler and eventually the sun came out.

A Big Mahalo To: Maile & Lou Hubbard the use of their truck & trailer Joan Burgeson coming from Fairoaks to drive the truck/trailer, wrap the eating utensils Charlene Kazner & Maile Hubbard in charge of organizing/setting up the food service area. Eric Kakihara cooking the rice, “go for”, picking up the Laulau & Friday lunch, help make decisions Agnes Kakihara, cashier and in charge of Spam Musubi and assembly line makers: Maile, Charlene, Maggie and Edye Edye Hill, cashier, and photo menu Geoff Hill, “go for” to the refer & Smart & Final, cook spam & burgers Lani Ryan, cook spam & burgers, wash Maggie Perry, took off from work, served, and washed utensils & pans, Gil Kveen, steam Laulau, KAHA ice & Water Joseph Rodrigues, steam Laulau, hot water Me, trying to be Luna and being ignored be-cause everyone knew what needed to be done Lou Hubbard & Tom Kakihara were also at the shed on Friday to help load.

We all were multi-tasking and helping one anoth-

er at the same time. It was great working together, lots of fun, so tired, had no time to go shopping or go to the casino, but headed back to Hampton Inn for a nice bath and to bed! It was worth the sacri-fice dedicating the holiday weekend for this event. (Pictures Taken by Maggie on Photo Page)

Hawaiian Word of the Day Published with the permission of

Liana Iaea Honda he momi e lei ai--a pearl to wear as a lei

Today’s Hawaiian Pearl is: MANA’OPA’A -- (mah-nah-’oh-pah’-ah)

--Conviction, determination, firm intention, convinced, determined, resolute. WE are familiar with the word Mana’o which refers to thoughts or feelings, ideas. Pa’a is the word for firm or hard. Therefore a firm thought is, indeed, a conviction. It is with a firm thought that we move forward with deter-mination. IN light of events that have affected all of us worldwide we must remain steadfast in our Mana’opa’a that peace is our ultimate goal, that humankind is of one species and in order to survive as a species we must be united. HE mana’opa’a kona ua pono kane hana. He is convinced his conduct is righteous. HE mana’opa’a ko kakou, ’o ia no ka maluhia o ke ao nei. We have a conviction and that is peace for our world. Presently, the Award(s) Nomination Forms are

not available on-line for this year's convention. In speaking to the AOHCC Award Chairperson, it is

most likely that the format may be updated from the original body of the text. However, the ques-

tionnaire is to remain unchanged. When notifica-tion is received that the Award Nomination Forms, (changed or unchanged), are available,

copies will be made and distributed as soon as possible.

When nominating your candidate, please reflect on the qualifications of the person(s) who is mostly likely to meet the prerequisites of the

Award. Even though the Nomination Forms are delayed at this time, we need to have an election

to vote for our nominees. How about holding the Nominations at the July General Meeting for both

the AOHCC Awards and `Ainahau Member of the Year Award? Due dates have not been estab-lished as yet, but should be forth coming shortly

KOLOHE LUNCH

REPORT AND UPCOMING DATE

INFORMATION

BY JACKIE JUDD

Kim Su Restaurant was host to just the five of us this time, however, you know those of us who do go enjoy every moment (in between making goo goo eyes at the lady pushing the cart to stop so we can latch on to some of that delicious dim sum) We ordered dishes such as, har gow (a shrimp dish with a pepeiau type cov-ering), seu mai (A pork hash one-ton type dish), taro cakes (yum), house chow mein (always have to have the noodles), sweet/sour ribs (we weren't impressed with this dish) gai lon (Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce); honey walnut shrimp, and for dessert (gotta have that) rice cakes with lots of hot tea and that's about what satisfied Jay, Gil, Lori, Colonel and me. The next Kolohe lunch as indicated

below, we are looking for-ward to going to the New Ruby Palace. William, the new owner, is hoping to have his grand opening by then. If it doesn't happen, we will quickly let you all

know where the substitute place will be. Give it a thought. Alternate location will be Lazy Dog, 16310 Beach Blvd. if New Ruby Palace not open. Please give Gil Kveen a call at (714) 544-1093 . Aloha Jackie!
