P&C Meeting Our next P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday 17th March from 3:15pm in the staffroom. This meeting will go no later than 5:45pm. Students who will be at the meeting with their parents and are on school grounds after hours are under the supervision of their parents at all times. It is most appropriate for parents to provide quiet activities that can be completed within eyesight of the staffroom. For student safety, students must not be running around the school or playing on school equipment. Thank you for your understanding. Primarily Rock Our school rock band ‘Primarily Rock’ has begun rehearsals in the hall every Thursday morning before school. If you would like to hear some great music and watch the amazing talent of our students, feel free to pop your head in and listen. We can’t wait to get our band out and about on community gigs later in the year! Parent Teacher Interviews From March 23rd – April 3rd, our staff will be making themselves available for Parent Teacher interviews. Please watch out for this important letter in your child’s school bag in the coming days. Time slots are given on a first come, first served basis so please return your letter to school as soon as possible so we can best accommodate your availability. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your classroom teacher. P&C Colour Fun Run Our P&C are coordinating an exciting Colour Fun Run for our students to have fun while gaining fitness for our annual Cross Country Carnival in Term 2. It will be held on the last day of the term – Friday 3rd April. Please read the P&C news for further information and support this exciting day. Local Government Election Our school will be a polling booth for the local government election on Saturday 28th March. NAPLAN Online From Tuesday 12th May – Monday 18th May, our Year 3 and 5’s will complete NAPLAN online. Our students will complete 1 test a day from Tuesday – Friday with Monday used as make up opportunities if your child is absent. Including set up time, each test will go for approx. 60 minutes and they will complete their normal classroom routine for the remainder of the day. I have emailed home an information document for parents including privacy information. Paper copies can be found in the front office too. I support parent’s decision to withdraw their child from NAPLAN for personal and learning reasons and the withdrawal form is available from the office. Withdrawal from NAPLAN also includes withdrawal from the practice test. Our school will conduct a practice test on Tuesday 31st March where our Year 3 and 5’s will complete the writing test and an omnibus test (a mixture of reading, conventions of language and numeracy) for approx. 60 minutes each. These tests familiarise our students with the test format, ensures student IT competencies are appropriate and confirms our schools internet capabil-ities for the official test day. Our staff, along with every state teacher in Queensland, will participate in the Queensland Teacher Union’s ballot to boycott NAPLAN this year and we will find out further information towards the end of this term on the implications of this ballot for our school. If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please do not hesitate to call me on 5469 933 or speak to your class teacher.

Visit by Registered Nurse for Free Prep Vision Screening Good vision is important for a child’s educational, physical and social development. Vision screening is therefore vital in early childhood, particularly for conditions such as ‘lazy eye’, which if not detected early can lead to blindness. A Registered Nurse will be visiting the school on 14th May 2020 to commence vision screening for all Prep Year children. If you wish to have your child participate in this free vision screening program, please complete and sign the consent form sent home with your child and return this to your child’s class teacher as soon as possible. These will be sent home by the 20th April and are due back to the school by the 24th April. You will be advised in writing of the outcome of your child’s screening. Please note that if your child has had a vision assessment in the past 12 months it is not necessary for him/her to participate in this screening program. If this is the case, please complete the consent form and indicate that you do not wish for your child to participate, and ensure that you follow the schedule of reviews recommended by your eye health professional. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask your classroom teacher. Guten Tag! Good Day! During this term the students have been learning how to talk about their families in German. We discussed their family heritage, where their names came from as well as all the different types of families from (die kleinfamilie, die Großfamile und Patchwork-familie) small, big, or blended families. The 5/6 classes are about to do their first digital assessment about their family. It would be ideal if they could include an image of their immediate family which could be added to their Power Point Report. If you have a photo that is not digital we can copy it at school. Alternatively, students can draw an image for their report. I have made contact with a Primary School in Berlin, Germany called (Rosa Parks Grund Schule) Rosa Parks Primary School that is keen to make contact with us regarding our students sharing their work to practise their German as well as the German students practising their English. Their website is www.rosa-parks-grundschule.de Any work provided by our students to be shared will be transferred between the relevant teachers only and always adhering to protecting the privacy of our students which means that students must have current media perm ission. Permission forms will be sent home regarding this.

I look forward to seeing some of their final work. Bis spater ( See you later) Frau Kuiper (Mrs Kuiper)

RI Book Payments It has come to my attention that there is concern over the RI book fee not being invoiced. As the Connect book fee only applies to the children participating in RI, it would be very time consuming and possibly inaccurate to invoice only those children. RI participation forms are still trickling in. For this year, please send $3.50 in cash to the office or come in and use Eftpos.

It was my pleasure 2 weeks ago to attend the camp for all Year 6 students in our cluster held at MOEC. It was great to see friendships starting to develop between students from different schools in preparation for the transition to High School next year. I would like to say a HUGE THANKYOU to the students, parents, grandparents and staff who contributed in any way to the Chappy Challenge on Saturday 7th March. We were blessed with perfect weather, as well as a safely run event without any mishap or injuries. All who participated had a great time and helped raise much needed funds for Chaplaincy in our district. Thank you. I am at school on Tuesday morning and Friday each week. Please come and have a chat when you see me. Kind Regards, Karen Turner Thought - ‘Each day is another opportunity for a fresh start.’

SCHOOL RUN4FUN COLOUR EXPLOSION We’re turning our events from bland to GRAND this year by adding an explosion of colour. A School Run4Fun Colour Explosion™ will be held on Friday 3rd April, as a pre-event/training run for the Cross Country to be held in Term 2. Students have now received a Sponsorship Form with instructions on how to raise money and order prizes, as well as information on exactly what a Colour Explosion is. Students who raise as little as $10 or more will receive an incentive prize for their efforts. But why not aim higher? You have the option to choose up to five (5) prizes and this will set your fundraising goal. Family and friends are your greatest supporters, so ask them first for your support. You will reach your fundraising goal in no time. Remember, the more we raise the more we can provide for the students through vital school projects.
