• These classes are all Career & Technical Education classes and students need to earn a grade of at least a 3.0 (85%)in the class.

• Classes are at Kamiakin as well as at Tri-Tech. Examples of these are; Computer Applications, Sports & Entertainment Marketing, Nursing, Radio Broadcasting, Web Page Design, Child Psychology.

US News & World Report ranks Kamiakin as one of the top 1300

schools in the United States• This last spring we were

honored for the fifth consecutive year to be listed by as one of the top 1300 schools in the entire nation.

• They look for schools that push a rigorous curriculum as determined by either Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate programs.

• They look at the number of graduates compared to the number of students choosing the most rigorous classes.

PSAT/NMSQT• We want to provide all students with an opportunity to

participate in the PSAT/NMSQT so we removed 2 barriers.

• First barrier was the test was associated with a fee– this year Kamiakin will cover the cost of the test for all Juniors students taking it. Sophomores will have to pay the $14 to register.

• Second barrier was the test has traditionally been on a weekend, this year Kamiakin is administering the test on Wednesday October 12th.– Freshmen will stay home during testing time, if they ride the bus

to school their will be a place for them to read and work on homework.

– Sophomores & Juniors will be taking the PSAT– Seniors have an opportunity to work on collecting community

service hours and career awareness hours independently.

Student-Led Conference Nuts and Bolts

• In order to meet the needs of our students and parents for the last four years we have had Student Led Conferences.

• Parents appreciated the opportunity to form a true partnership with teachers working together to help their children rather than just receiving a “report” on how they were doing.

• Students presented their plans for their future and discussed with their parents and advisors how they were going to get their with the choices they were making at this time.

• Dates: April 24th Afternoon & Evening, April 25th afternoon

For Tonight…• Should have your child’s schedule– if you don’t and need

one the office is open. If you have an “open period”, please take the time to look around campus (library, gyms, counseling office.)

• You should have a map to show you where you are going– if you don’t know where you are going ask one of our guides around campus and they can take you to where you are going.

• Please remember our purpose for tonight is not parent/teacher conferences, let the teacher know if you want a conference and one can be scheduled at a later date.
