Kappa is my home away from home without a doubt. But beyond that, I love Kappa because it provides a safe place to grow and mature, while still allowing you to be a kid at heart :). I’ve found that being a big sister in Kappa has definitely caused me to mature more than I ever thought it would, and constantly being surrounded by my sisters and friends allows me to be completely silly and ridiculous while never having to worrying about being judged. What was your favorite Kappa event this semester? I had a super fun time at Turnabout! The pledges put together a really great event that was definitely a completely new and original take on one of our best traditional events :). I got to paint a picture blindfolded, break it down in the MTCC, and guide a teammate blindfolded through an obstacle course, and that wasn’t even everything! I had so much fun at all the activities, and I was really impressed by the creativity that went into all of them. What would you tell someone new to Kappa? I would say spend some time getting to know everyone. I’ve found that some of my best friends in Kappa are women who I might not have gotten so close with had it not been for this bond that we share. Sometimes I think people are quick to judge “sorority life” or force sororities into an all-inclusive box- Kappa isn’t like that. We don’t fit into a box, and we’re all so unique and passionate in our own ways that it’s worth it to get to know everyone on an individual basis. I know that in doing this myself, I’ve had to opportunity to be inspired by many more amazing women :).

Kappa has been a major part of my life and helped me grow as a person. I would not be as outgoing or confident without Kappa. In Kappa, you grow to love each and every one of your sisters and you know that no matter what they will always be there for you.

I was afraid to talk to the Kappa sisters, but I was invited to attend the tie-dye recruitment event. At first I was a little uneasy about being at the event and felt very out of place until Jaya urged me to tie-dye a shirt with her. Once my shirt was finished, I left for a little while to attend an ASA recruitment event ... I decided to return to the Kappa event where I found a massive group of guys and girls dancing to some awesome music. I danced for a long while with several Kappa sisters. That day I fell in love with Kappa.

I thought that this event was great! I enjoyed it last year as well. I feel like everyone was excited about it and dressed up which made everyone even more excited. Everyone’s costumes were great!

-Hannah Barnes

I loved seeing all the Kappas so festive while dressing up in amazing costumes, being creative while carving awesome costumes, or just socializing while crafting caramelized apples! It was a really fun and memorable evening!

-Carolyn Schumer

I loved seeing all my beautiful sisters looking scary and/or all decked out. Pumpkin carving has always been one of my favorite things about fall, and the event with the Delts was on my birthday so that was super fun :)

-Cara Cummings

This event is so traditional and such a fun part of October. Seeing everyone’s pumpkins all lined up on the porch is really fun!

-Anna Spaete

First pumpkin carving ever!! Loved it!

-Zineb El Orch

My team The Calculators ( Joanna, Cara, Liz, Kristen, Amrie, and Zineb) won fi rst place in the Labrinyth!! We broke a record for fi nishing the maze with a time of an hour and 52 minutes!!!!!!

-Medha Parulekar

Sisterhood retreat was so awesome this semester! It’s always a great experience, and the labyrinth was so much fun, my adrenaline was pumping the whole time! I loved that I got to talk to some kappas that I don’t always get to see, and the event was just so much fun :)

I found my secret talent: Blindfolded obstacle courses!-Joanna Klimczak

My favorite part of turnabout was watching my “group” dance in front of the commons. Since the lunch rush was about to start, there was a good number of people watching the girls dance, and someone even joined in dancing too.

“I was more then a little apprehensive when Sydney and Marie asked to come home with me for Thanksgiving. Again and miraculously Nicky P. decided to return to my house for her second Thanksgiving even though last year she survived my family on her own while I was watching a baby being delivered. To my great joy not only did my wonderful sisters survive my family’s nonstop talking and Duck Dynasty but they thrived as well. Sydney submitted two grad school application through the onslaught of questions about every aspect of her life from my parents and grandpa. Marie found an elusive diet coke and ate her first piece of pumpkin pie. Nicky P. did the most impressive post-Thanksgiving pass out the world has ever seen and even stayed up late.So finally I would just like to thank you for coming to my home to celebrate with my family. You have absolutely charmed yourselves into my families hearts. Thank you for being such a great representation of a Kappa. My father never understood why I would join a sorority but when you all left he took me aside and said, “”You have the most wonderful friends. If these women are representative of the rest of your sisters then you have made one of the best decisions of your college career.”

-Mariah Kuitse

I sat at a table with some alumnae from PC ‘74-’76, those women were hilarious!

-Liz Zielinski

Seeing the kappa alumni lovely ladies get their awards was heartwarming and helped me realize how dedication alone can help kappa run so beautifully!

-Liang Hou

I spent all of alumnae reunion talking to the Barbara’s about all the things that they did as pledges in the late 70’s! Some of the things that they said that they did included having a hell night, which is kind of like walk about that we have in the spring! They also had their pink book, which is similar to our pledge books now and they assigned their big sisters and little sisters based on majors because they wanted their pledges to have a big sister that was not only your big in the house but also a mentor around campus :)

-Neilina Vierra

This is by far my favorite Kappa event. You really get to see how amazing it is to be a part of such a great sisterhood. All the stories and announcements are so inspiring and just makes me love kappa so much more!!

-Amy Carrera

I loved being the one to open all of Kappa’s gifts! I really felt important and a part of something so wonderful as our sorority.

-Emma Zachocki

“Before the event started, Carolyn, Marisa and I were telling Clay that he should intentionally skip senior farewell next semester because it’s going to be days long and a big cry fest... and the next minute the three of us were crying.I loved all the thoughtful gifts this year. The best present was Clay’s rose cuff links from Angela.”
