Danila DilBa

malak Community garden overhaul

The annual Karama Biggest Morning Tea was a huge success this year. I look forward to hosting the morning tea at the Karama Tavern each year. Thanks to Karama and Malak residents our morning tea was in the Territory Top 10. We raised $3480 - making us the 2nd highest fundraiser in the Territory. A huge thank you to the LaPira family, Karama Tavern staff and patrons and generous local residents. Rachael’s Designacake supplied the delicious and beautifully-designed cake.

malak - Youth Drop in Centre

a new malak Youth Drop in Centre has now opened at the malak Shopping Centre, at the rear of Danila Dilba Social and Wellbeing Service.

The drop in centre is open to local youth on Tuesday and Wednesday 3pm to 6pm, and Friday 3pm to 8pm. If its popularity continues, Fridays will be extended from 6pm to midnight soon. It is staffed by qualified youth workers.

The drop in centre is designed to meet the needs of local youth with referrals made from the centre to Danila Dilba’s in-house counsellors; the age range is 10 – 20 year olds.

The latest project run from the centre is a small lawn mowing and yard cleaning business which has been started by some local young Indigenous boys. That’s initiative!

Delia joins with local refugees and volunteers from Darwin Community Arts to celebrate National Tree Planting day on the 2nd of August. Delia donated plants to improve the Malak Community Garden at the shopping centre which was in need of some TLC. They planted Emperor Mandarins, Nagami Kumquat, West Indian lime, assorted chillies and herbs. Everyone who helped out had fun on the day and we hope to see the garden grow well.

Manunda Terrace Primary School to celebrate its 25th Birthday!Manunda Terrace Primary School (formerly Sanderson Primary School) is celebrating its 25th birthday on Friday, 4 September with festivities starting at 3pm and finishing at 7pm.

All previous staff, students and friends are invited to see the displays, buy a souvenir and meet up with old friends and students. An auction will be held throughout the festivities as part of the school’s annual fundraising efforts.

Any previous students who have a story to tell, please contact Shelley at the Front Office or phone 8927 7666. They'd love to hear from you.
