Defining the architecture of traditional Karelian Livvic in the Region of Karelia.The workshop provides the knowledge of the place by living in wooden architecture and customs of the traditional villages. Among the activities in the workshop will be prepared a survey of these architectures for the creation and elaboration of thematic maps for the develop tools for the knowledge useful for land management.

The design of the landscape, understood as a result of human activities that affect the area through the development of designs and environmental sections and as it proves useful to define cognitive maps of the area.

The development of models based on fast-survey for the representation of historical settlements.

The survey through technological equipment: stereophotogrammetry, the topography of the main historical monuments, land surveying to understand the context.

General information: we expecting to stay in a traditional wooden house with all the characteristic “comfort” of the area by developing an active relationship with the habits and customs of the local people.

The Programme of 2013 Preliminary Programme of the workshop

July 15: Arrival in Petrozavodsk, accommodation in the hostel and sightseeing.

July 16: Meeting at the Petrozavodsk State University, institutional greetings, presentation of the project and Lectio Magistralis by Professors participants. During the afternoon there will be the transport to the village chosen as the base for the workshop, accommodation of the students in the houses.

July 17: The participating students will be organized in small group. Professors explain the main things necessary for starting the practical operations each group will be assigned an area of study and will be followed in the practical phases of the golf tutor and responsible of the workshop.

July 18 to 31: Activities in the field. Students will be organized into groups and each one will be assigned an area of study. Activities in order to describe the different environmental systems will be of different types: qualitative analysis by understanding and redesigning, survey with metric meth odology through laser scanner integrated by direct survey, study of building systems and wooden technologies of the architectures. Analysis of the relationship between built and context, the study of landscape and territory, investigation of different spaces and relationships, public-private, closed-open.

August 1 to 7: Continuation of work and start to reorginise the materials made. In the second phase of the workshop each group will begin to rearrange the material produced and collected in anticipation of the closure and presentation of the activities. The phases of field activities will alternate with moments of lectures, final stages of verification and processing.

August 8: Return to Petrozavodsk

August 9: Presentation of the results for the professors of the outcome and the experience of the workshop. Official closing of the workshop.

10 to 12 August: optional excursion to the Island of Kizhi, panoramic visit to the city of Petrozavodsk, museums, monuments and places of interest.

Necessary tools for the workshop: each participant must be provided with drawing paper and material in general to draw, camera, video camera or other media deemed useful by the participant, meters and instru-ments for direct survey, laptop containing all software necessary or used to make digital redrawings and graphic elaborations.

EnrollmentRegistration for the workshop must be made no later than May 31. are provided for a maximum number of 25 places.

Costs of participationThe participation fee is € 800. The cost includes:Living in Petrozavodsk;Transportation to the area office of the workshop;Stay in the village chosen as the base point for the duration of the stay;Room and board;Transport car during the entire period of the workshop;Return to Petrozavodsk.

The cost of participation in the workshop does not include additional charges for visits to museums in Petrozavodsk and optional excursion to the island of Kizhi. The cost cannot change in relationship to the time that the partecipant can spend for the workshop.

To knowRemember that to visit the Russian Federation from foreign countries one needs a visa and that visa must be obtained from the Embassy or to the expertise of their country. Different kinds of pictures. The aerial photographs were a useful tool to define DEFINE THE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE TERRITORY, that is not easily perceptible at ground level. With that images has been possible draw, in a correct way, the plan of all the villages, and UNDERSTAND THE CORRECTRELATIONSHIP between the greatestelements of the landscape.

The panoramic photographs are useful tools to UNDERSTAND THE GENIUS LOCI OF EACH LAND-SCAPE, and with this view we can fell the power and the feature of all the villages. EACH VIEW IS A SPECIFIC LANDSCAPE.

The spherical photos are a tool for RECOSTRUCTION THE LANDSCAPES IN 3D MODEL, and for simulate the presence of the users inside the village. IT IS THE FORM OF REPRE-SENTATION OF THE ENVIRON-MENT CLOSER TO THE REALITY.

Utility of the Sphere: the intersection of three spheres allows to find points on the surface of the buildings. With the plan and the points found with the sphere, we can do a 3D model of each village, with all the architectures and the differ-ent levels of the ground.
