Foundation & Pile locationWe specialize in foundation engineering, design and

developing the latest techniques in boring and

driven piling systems. The company has emerged as

one of the best in the business and continually

upgrading its services to meet the increasing

demands of the clients.

• Pile location setup

• Installation of temporary guide casing

• Reinforcement cage installation/sonic tubes

• Concreting of Pile

• Removing of temporary guide casing

• Cutting/breaking pile head

Other operations except drilling will be carried out

by using service cranes.

Prior to the rig setup at the pile location existing utili-

ties, obstacles or other underground services (tele-

phone lines, electric cables, drainage system, etc.)

are to be removed or relocated. The piling rig will

drill from the working platform level. The working

platform and access to pile location shall be made

with suitable hardcore material for the movement of

the equipment and ready mixed concrete trucks.

Page 27: Kashem & Co. Com profile RGB (NonEditable)€¦ · along with a group of talented, creative and trained personnel with a vision and mission to serve in the advancement and development

Reinforcement Cage Installation

After the completion of the drilling, the borehole depth will be checked

and verified versus the depth given to ensure the correct positioning of

the cage concerning cut off level. The reinforcement for the pile shall be

according to the requirements of the specification and the design of the

pile. The reinforcement shall conform to the mill certificate approved by

the consultant. The reinforcement cages will be fabricated up to the

designed length. The cage should be free from dirt. Durable spacers

shall be used at intervals to keep the reinforcement cage in position.

The pre-fabricated reinforcement cage will be lifted and placed in the

pile borehole using the service crane. The cage will then be lowered to

keep the top level at the designed level. Heavy steel cages will be lifted

with the help of a crane. The spacers shall be of PVC material or cement

concrete and as per approved sample for a clear concrete cover 75mm

to the reinforcement. The first layer of spacers will be placed at 20 cm

below cut off level. The spacing between spacers should be within 2 to

3 meters and should terminate only 30 cm above reinforcement toe (any

addition/ variation by the consultant will be considered).

Page 28: Kashem & Co. Com profile RGB (NonEditable)€¦ · along with a group of talented, creative and trained personnel with a vision and mission to serve in the advancement and development

The concrete is delivered employing truck mixers. The concrete

will be received on-site and delivery ticket will be checked for

correctness following the approved mix design. The concrete will

be checked for slump and temperature. The cube will be taken as

per specification. The concrete will access the site only after con-

crete quality has been found in compliance with the specifica-

tions. The concrete shall be poured by using tremie tube method

and placed without interruption to prevent hardening of the pre-

vious batch. The tremie pipe size will not be less than 100 mm and

is made up of sections with sufficient length to reach the toe of

the pile. The tremie pile will be inserted at the center of the pile to

reach up to the toe. The concrete shall be delivered directly from

the concrete truck to the tremie pipe hopper. The tremie pipe is

connected with the tremie pipe hopper which is attached to a

crane. The concrete is discharged into the pile borehole through

the tremie pipe hopper. The tremie pipe is lifted by using the

crane making sure that the bottom of the tremie is at least 2 m

inside the concrete. A sufficient quantity of concrete will be

poured until the concrete level in the pile reach the required level

above the cut off level to ensure good quality and contamina-

tion-free concrete at the pile cut off level. The concrete above cut

off level will be chipped by the following contractor.

Various methods are used to confirm the level of concrete in

Borehole. For confirming the level of the concrete inside the

borehole, we use bamboo. A bamboo is lowered inside temporary

casing up to concrete level and check to confirm the level of the

concrete. The polymer slurry displaced by the concrete will be

pumped back to the desander.

Concreting of Pile

Page 29: Kashem & Co. Com profile RGB (NonEditable)€¦ · along with a group of talented, creative and trained personnel with a vision and mission to serve in the advancement and development

After concreting, the temporary guide casing will be withdrawn by the crane/piling rig.

A sufficient head of concrete will be maintained to prevent the reduction in diameter of

pile shaft by earth pressure, polymer slurry or soil and to prevent extraneous material

from mixing with fresh concrete. The quantity of poured concrete volume will be mea-

sured and it will be compared with the theoretical volume. Spoil from the drilling of

boreholes shall be removed from the site to designated disposal areas. When a pile has

been driven to the required set of depth and afterload test has been carried out, the

head of the pile shall be cut off 30 cm above the cut off level. The length of the reinforc-

ing bars projecting above this level shall be as shown or specified in the Drawings.

The Following Main Equipment and apparatus shall be used to perform the axial

compression test (as Sample): Main Test Beam (I), Cross Beams (I), Hydraulic

Jack, Dial Gauges, Pressure Gauges, and Steel Test Plate.

Calibration certificate of the dial gauges and hydraulic jack shall be submitted

to the consultant 3 days before commencement the test.

METHOD OF COMPRESSION TEST The principle system for axial

compression load test is to apply a vertical load to the test pile

using hydraulic jacks acting against a platform carrying the Kent

ledge.

Concrete blocks shall be placed at 2 sides of the test pile. Main

test beam and cross beams shall be placed across the concrete

blocks.

Main test beam is a steel beam section with specified dimen-

sions. They shall be centered over the test plate.

Static load tests on foundation piles are generally carried out in order to determine

load-displacement characteristics.

The test encompasses the direct measurement of pile head displacement in the

response to a physically applied test load. It is the most fundamental form of pile load

test and is considered as the benchmark of pile performance.

A load test is performed by applying pressure to a specific pile in predetermined direc-

tions; either by compression (push), tension (pull), or laterally. The load is generally

applied via a hydraulic jack to make sure the pressure is equal to the final load require-

ment. A reaction frame is then applied against the hydraulic jack. Once activated, any

movement of the pile or the test apparatus is monitored and logged, and the results are

used to determine the capacity of the pile being tested.

Page 31: Kashem & Co. Com profile RGB (NonEditable)€¦ · along with a group of talented, creative and trained personnel with a vision and mission to serve in the advancement and development

Dynamic load testing (or dynamic loading) is a method to assess a pile's bear-

ing capacity by applying a dynamic load to the pile head (a falling mass) while record-

ing acceleration and strain on the pile head. Dynamic load testing is a high strain

dynamic test which can be applied after pile installation for concrete piles. For steel or

timber piles, dynamic load testing can be done during installation or after installation.

The procedure is standardized by ASTM D4945-00 Standard Test Method for High Strain

Dynamic Testing of Piles. It may be performed on all piles, regardless of their installa-

tion method. In addition to bearing capacity, Dynamic Load Testing gives information on

resistance distribution (shaft resistance and end bearing) and evaluates the shape and

integrity of the foundation element.

• The Static Loading Test (SLT) is the most defini-

tive method of determining load capacity of a pile.

• Testing a pile to failure provides valuable infor-

mation to the design engineer for recommenda-

tion prior to foundation design.

• The test permits the selection of both the

optimum pile foundation and the design load.

Static Axial Uplift Test, This test method covers procedures for testing vertical and

batter piles either individually or in groups to determine  the load‐deflection relation-

ship  when  subjected  to  lateral  loading.  It  is  applicable  to  all  deep  foundation  units

regardless of their size or method

The actual lateral load capacity of the pile‐soil system can best be determined by later-

al testing. Such testing  measures the response of the pile‐soil system to lateral loads

and may provide data for research and development,  engineering design, quality con-

trol,  and  acceptance  or  rejection  under  specifications.  Under  the  iterative  elastic

method of analysis  that considers  the   nonlinear  response of  the soil,  lateral  testing

combined with proper  instrumentation can be used to determine soil properties nec-

essary for the structural design of the pile to resist the  lateral load to be applied

(Lateral Load Test)

Lateral Load Test on Piles is per-

formed on a completed single

cast-in-situ pile in order to evaluate its

performance relative to the lateral

load / displacement criteria for the

design of the working piles.

Installation of temporary guide casting

A temporary guide casing of an internal diameter slightly more than the diame-

ter of the pile will be installed. The temporary casing shall be installed into the

ground with the help of piling rig or with a Vibro hammer. The center of the

temporary guide casing is the previously installed steel pin. The casing shall be

uniform in cross-section throughout the length and free from distortion.

Three reference steel pins will be temporary installed equidistant to the sur-

veyed center of pile point. The distance to the steel casing is measured from

the reference pins and adjustments are made so that the reference pins are

(Equidistant to the steel casing. The position of the casing center shall be

reconfirmed before starting drilling and after completion of drilling.

Page 34: Kashem & Co. Com profile RGB (NonEditable)€¦ · along with a group of talented, creative and trained personnel with a vision and mission to serve in the advancement and development

The rotary rigs are utilized in this process. The hole will be drilled utilizing a bucket equal to the

diameter of the pile form the working platform using a temporary casing. After fixing the guide

casing the borehole will be drilled down to its final level. The buckets grab. the soil inside the

hole deepens the bore. The bucket when filled up with soil is lifted from the hole and spoil is

dumped outside. This process continues until the final stratum is reached. The verticality of the

drilled borehole shall be ensured to its full depth. The drilled borehole will be filled with poly-

mer slurry and shall keep a minimum of 1.50 m above the groundwater level to have enough

hydrostatic pressure in the borehole to avoid any collapse. The slurry level will be maintained

at the working platform at all times. The verticality of the borehole will be checked during drill-

ing appropriate intervals. A handheld spirit of 1.0-meter length shall be used to check the verti-

cality of the mast and thereby that of the Kelly bar and borehole in two opposite directions at

frequent intervals. To keep the quality of polymer during the drilling within the allowable limits

executed during the installation of the pile. The polymer quality will from the polymer supplied

to the borehole. If the properties specified limits fresh polymer shall be added into the system.

The polymer slurry and the soil that is carried out by the displaced polymer from boring or con-

creting operations is sent to a settling tank before being passed through the descending plant

to removed any sand and silt particles that have not settled in the tank. After being cleaned in

the plant, the polymer will be pumped to the polymer tank for further use.

Foundation

The polymer solution shall rest in the tank for at

least 6 hours to allow proper hydration. The

following tests shall be done on the polymer

suspension supplied "to pile borehole to obtain

the present properties with these specification

limits:

Density: As same as the water.

Viscosity: greater than 40 seconds (Marsh cone

method)

pH value: 7.5 to 9.5 ( pH indicator paper or electri-

cal ph meter)

To achieve workable concentration, 1 kg to 2.5kg

of the polymer will be added to approximately

1000 liters of water. Mixing will take place in a

mixing plant designed for this purpose. The sche-

matic layout of the polymer mixing arrangement

is attached.

The polymer slurry shall be checked for specifica-

tion compliance at suitable intervals as agreed

with the Engineer. The test shall be carried out

until a consistent working pattern has established.

When the results show consistent behavior, the

test for ph value may be discontinued and test to

determined density and viscosity shall be carried

out as agreed with the Engineer, In the event of a

change in the established working pattern, tests

for PH value shall be reintroduced for a period if

required, The density of the mixed polymer

suspension shall be measured daily as a check on

the quality of the suspension is formed

• Our business is concerned with the services in connection with the construction, operation,

and maintenance of the built environment and the protection, enhancement, and maintenance

of the natural environment. Our quality policy is implemented through integrated procedures

that specifically target these services.

• We have established and maintained an economic and effective framework for the manage-

ment of processes to ensure that the services provided by Kashem N Company Ltd. Construc-

tion Company (BD) Ltd. remains transparent and meets the requirements of clients of interna-

tional standards, legislation, and management.

• Good quality control is required to ensure high standards of workmanship and a commitment

to delivering a project that is safe for users and has an appropriate maintenance liability. A

well-developed quality management plan also benefits the Client through the integration of

quality with safety and environmental management. This ultimately offers the client a better

value.

• We take an integrated approach to Quality Assurance and combines quality, safety, and envi-

ronmental elements into a single system. We take into account the fact that each commission

is unique and so requires an individually planned approach to project management.

• As work progresses the plan will be reviewed and revised as appropriate to ensure that it

meets the project demands. This process relies on good communication and the free flow of

information between all parties.

• Lower the probes from the top, effectively measuring the access tube lengths. Pull the probes

simultaneously, taking CSL measurements at intervals of 50mm or less from the bottom to the

top of the drilled shaft.

• As the sensors are being lowered, the C HA records, at regular depth interval, the time that the

signal takes to travel from the transmitter to the receiver (arrival Time), as well as the signal am-

plitude/energy. These two quantities are indicative for concrete quality the pair of tubes at a

particular depth as shown later.

• Defects indicated by late arrival times and significantly lower amplitude/energy signals shall

be immediately reported to the Engineer. Additional tests such as the offset elevation CSL test-

ing may be required by the Engineer to further evaluate the extent of such defects.

• The entire shaft is scanned in this fashion. The test is then repeated for each pair of tubes,

allowing for the investigation of defects both along the length and by quadrant.

• The information related to arrival time and to signal energy is shown on the CHA screen in

real-time mode during the logging to allow problem areas to be located immediately and

checked (if required).

• Optional after all the CSL testing has been completed, and after acceptance of drilled shaft by

the Engineer, we shall remove the water in the tubes, place grout tubes extending to the

bottom of the access tube, and fill all-access tubes in the drilled shafts with grout.

Test Procedure• CSL testing can be performed any time after

concrete installation although 2 days is usual-

ly the minimum acceptable wait. Because the

concrete strength and quality generally

increases as the concrete cures, longer wait

times are usually desirable, particularly if

minimum pulse wave speeds are specified or

to reduce result variability between drilled

shafts. However, if PVC tubes are used, long

wait times increase the tube de-bonding

which is detrimental to the tests.

• Prior to running the sonic logs, the caps of

the tubes shall be removed. Don not apply

excessive torque, hammering or other stress-

es which could break the bond between the

tube and concrete when removing caps from

the tubes.

• The transmitter and the receiver shall be fixed on

a PVC cable in length of 60 meters.

• The CSL testing shall performed with the trans-

mitter and receiver probes in the same horizontal

plane in parallel tubes unless test results indicate

potential defect, in which case the questionable

zone may be further evaluated with angled tests.

• Using the labeling established for the tubes,

perform CSL testing between all adjacent perime-

ter access tube pairs and across at least two

major diagonals with the drilled shaft.

Test Pile Requirements

• Access tubes made of steel are to be placed in the drilled shafts before concrete placement.

The actual number of tubes shall be one duct for every 0.25 to 0.35 m of the pile diameter

attached at a constant spacing to the reinforcement cage of the pile. Such tubes shall be

placed around the perimeter of the shaft and shall be tied (or welded) to the inside (or outside)

of the cage of the shaft before it is installed into the piles. These tubes usually are 38 to 50 mm

inside diameter and are round tubes that have a regular internal diameter free of defects and

obstructions, including any tube joints, to permit the free, unobstructed passage of the; probes.

These tubes shall be watertight and free from corrosion with clean internal and external faces

to ensure a good bond between the concrete and the tubes. Tubes may be extended with me-

chanical coupling. Such tubes shall be installed by us in such a way that the CS L probes will

pass the entire length of the tube without binding.

• During installation, access tubes shall befit with a watertight shoe on the bottom and a remov-

able cap on the top.

• These tubes shall be extended from the base of the pile to the surface and should be installed

uniformly and equidistantly around the circumference such that each tube is spaced in parallel

for the full length and at the maximum distance possible from each adjacent tube. Tubes

should be spaced as far as possible from the main axial reinforcing steel. The tubes should be

extended to within 150 mm of the drilled shaft bottom, and at least 1 meter above drilled shaft

tops, and at least 0.6 meters, but not more than that 1 .5 meters above the ground surface.

Page 39: Kashem & Co. Com profile RGB (NonEditable)€¦ · along with a group of talented, creative and trained personnel with a vision and mission to serve in the advancement and development

• Tubes should not be damaged during the installation of the reinforcement cage. After placement of the reinforcement cage, fill the access tubes with clean fresh water as soon as possible but within at the latest one hour of concrete placement. The tubes should preferably be filled with water before concrete placement but MUST be filled with water within at most 4 hours after placing concrete to prevent de-bonding of the access tubes due to differential temperatures. • All the access tubes shall be clearly labeled for identification by the CS L testing agency • Cap the tube tops to prevent debris from entering the access tubes.

The signal contains information about

changes in impedance. Impedance changes

can be caused by variations in cross-sec-

tions, holes, soil inclusion, cracks, and varia-

tion in the stiffness of the surrounding soil.

The signal is passed to the input of the instru-

ment, where it is amplified, converted to digi-

tal form, and processed in a digital computer.

For the operator's convenience, all functions

automatically adapt to the properties of the

signal. A velocity-time record is presented on

the screen; it can be stored on the built-in

hard disk and then plotted.

For Sonic Integrity Testing to be effective, the

pile head must be clean, accessible, sound

and free from standing water, and free from

the steel reinforcement of the pile caps, so

that a small accelerometer can be pressed

against it. Cast-in-situ piles should be at

least 5 days old. It is highly recommended

that integrity testing is performed for all

piles.

The cross-hole sonic test integrity testing is

one of the most advanced and economical

tools for testing the integrity of drilled shafts.

Currently, there is no better method for

non-destructively identifying and defect in

the drilled shafts. The test determines the

quality of concrete between pairs of tubes

pre-installed in bored pile cast-in-situ con-

crete piles, or other types of concrete foun-

dation using the Cross-Hole Analyzer (CHA).

The CHA measures the time it takes for an

ultrasonic pulse to travel from a signal

source in one access tube to a receiver in

another access tube. In uniform, good quality

concrete, the travel time between equidis-

tant tubes will be relatively constant. Longer

travel times indicate the presence of irregu-

larities such as poor quality concrete, voids,

honeycombs, and soil intrusions. The tech-

nique to be adopted shall be following ASTM

D 6760 standard specification.

Page 40: Kashem & Co. Com profile RGB (NonEditable)€¦ · along with a group of talented, creative and trained personnel with a vision and mission to serve in the advancement and development

Kent ledge load calculation Steel plate that shall be put on the smooth surface of the test pile

shall be of minimum 20 mm thick, to prevent it from bending under the loads involved.

Hydraulic jack sufficient to apply the test load shall be placed between the main test beam and

steel test plate, which is fixed on the test pile.

Four dial gauges sensible to 0.01 mm shall have amounted on two references beams.

The load shall be applied to employ a hydraulic power pack unit connected to the hydraulic

jacks using sealed hoses. Pressure values corresponding to the scheduled loads shall be

adjusted by the means of calibrated manometers tolerance for reading taken for the pressure

gauges shall not exceed 2 %, the latter shall be secured by calibrated suitable manometers

(calibration certificates shall be submitted to the consultant before each test). The test system

shall be established under the supervision of Kashem N Company Ltd. Site Engineer under the

Test System described in this procedure.

The Foundation Pile Diagnostic System will be used to test the integrity of the piles (By the third

party),

This involves striking a pile head with a hammer and picking up the response of the pile utiliz-

ing an accelerometer pressed onto the top of the pile.
