Det er noko heilt spesielt å få ein pakke med gamlehardingfeleopptak frå arkivet. Det kriblar i magen nåreg legg opptaka i spelaren. Kva er det for slåttar? Kvaer det for spelemenn? Kva har dei å fortelje? Så byrjareg å lytte: Eg høyrer kraft og humør, sanning og løgn,sorg og ettertanke. Eg sluttar aldri bli overvelda overmangfaldet. Repertoaret på denne cden er mi tolkingav dei gamle slåttane. Eg har henta dei fram frå notarog opptak, eller lært dei direkte frå andre spelemenn.Tolkingane er bygde på tradisjon, men også inspirasjonfrå samtida og dei menneska eg har møtt. Hovudsakleger musikken henta frå Sunnfjord og Jølster, der eg

Getting a package ofHardanger fiddlerecordings from thearchives is a specialexperience. Butterflies inmy stomach, I put a CDin the player: Which tunesare there? Which fiddlers?What stories do they tell?I press «play» and beginto listen. I hear powerfulexpression and humor,truth and lies, sorrow andreflection – and amcontinually amazed at thediversity I find. The oldHardanger fiddle tunes onthis CD are ones I havelearned fromtranscriptions andrecordings, and directlyfrom other fiddlers. Myinterpretations are firmlygrounded in tradition butare also influenced by thetimes in which I live and

people I have met. Mostof the tunes are fromSunnfjord and Jølster inwestern Norway, where Igrew up. It has beennatural for me to includealso some tunes fromother areas. Jens Amundsen (1921-1987), Bø i Telemark var einstorspelemann i Bø-tradisjonen i Telemark.Mange flotte plasseringarpå kappleikar. OddBakkerud (1931-1989), Nesi Hallingdal, Odd Bakkerudhar delteke på over 100kappleikar, Han var einsærs markert spelemann på70- og 80-talet.

Lars Skjervheim (1915-2003)frå Voss hadde ein rikslåttetradisjon frå dei ulikeVossabygdene og pelteofte til bryllaup og andrefestlege lag Har mange 1.premiar frå storekappleikar. Torleiv Bolstad(1915-1979), Øystre Slidrevar den mest markerteValdresspelemannen på 60-og 70-talet.

Vol 4 i den unikefolkemusikkserien «Norskfolkemusikk» (19 CD + 1DVD) originalt gitt ut frå1954 til 1974 på EP og LP.

Opptakene med GlåmosSpellmannslag viser dens p e n n e n d esamspilltradisjonen påRøros, leda an avfelenestorene Sven ogPeder Nyhus.

Draumkvedet er sentrale ogviktig middelalderballade.Dette visjons diktet fasinerer,utfordrar og provoserer.Berit Opheim Versto hararbeida med middelalder-balladen i mange år ogleverar ei fantastiskframføring: sunge inn i Vosskyrkje. Solo. Karl Seglemvart så inspirert at han måttesvara - ved hjelp avbukkehornet sitt ogelektronikk.

I 22årsalderen la TorkjellHaugerud ut på si førstekonsertferd, og i åra somfylgde reiste han kring heilesør-Noreg.

Balkansemblet fikk Spellemannprisen i 1985 foralbumet «Balkan Samlet». Etter to aktive tiår og toalbum tok bandet en lenger pause fra midt på 90-tallet. I 2005 gjenoppsto gruppa, og i dag består denav to medlemmer fra gamle «Balkansemblet» og trenye, kreative og talentfulle musikere. Balkansembletslipper et nytt album på EMCD i februar 2009.Balkansemblets første etappe var en slagsoppdagelsesreise til Balkan der musikk og kultur vari fokus. Det musikalske resultatet kan karakteriseressom «balkancoverlåter» og manifesterte seg i to album,«Balkan Samlet» og «Kvikk Sand», begge utgitt på«Hot Club Records». Bandet spilte konserter i Norgeog Skandinavia og deltok i en rekke TV- og radio-program. Etter den nye starten i 2005 harBalkansemblet vært på reise igjen - denne gangen hjem.Etter perioden med oppdagelser og læring, harmusikken blitt mer fri og åpen, og inneholder myemer improvisasjon. På det siste albumet er mestepartenav musikken skrevet av bandet selv. BECAYE AW (acoustic guitars and vocals) is aguitarist, singer and songwriter of the African Fulani(Haal Pulaar) People. Becaye spent his childhood inDakar, Senegal, and it was here he first laid his handson a guitar. Becaye is largely self-taught. After learningelementary guitar-technique from a Serere musician,he went on to develop his own style, listening torecordings and to the radio. His African approach toguitar tuning and his way of playing the instrumentresult in a quiet caracteristic sound. Becaye began hismusical career in Senegal, playing with musicians suchas Baaba Maal and Mansuur Seck. He has since thenparticipated in many groups and projects, incollaboration with a variety of musicians. This projectis Becaye’s debut as a soloist. The album’s repertoireincludes his compositions as well as traditional songs.He is joined by guest artists:

This album is the result ofan encounter between theNorwegian folk music artistSvein Westad, and musicteachers at the Nepal MusicCentre in Kathmandu. In1997, Svein was invited bythe folk dance group AnamDharan, whom he had metin North Korea some yearsearlier, to give a concert inKathmandu. Before leavingNorway, he wasrecommended by Riks-konsertene to do a work shopwith musicians at the NMC,sponsored by NORAD. Thismeeting turned out to be sosuccessful, that Svein invitedhis Nepali music colleges tojoin him in the concert at theGurukul music theatre inKathmandu. The NorwegianMunnharpe and Seljefløyteare both natural scaleinstruments, thus seeminglydifferent in character fromthe Nepali Bansuri and theSarangi. Nevertheless, theinstruments harmonizedperfectly when broughttogether, thanks to theplayers’ skill in adapting theirinstruments to the mood ofthe music. Thus, Nepali andNorwegian tunes are mixedinto new musical expressions.

Den lekne musikeren ogkomponisten har alltid søktetter å krysse musikalskegrenser og er i følgekritikere og presse en avNorges mest originale ogrespekterte jazztrompetister.Førde spiller selv bådetrompet, flügelhorn, piano,percussion og programm-ering – i tillegg til at hanogså denne gang harkomponert all musikkenselv.

Bodil Niska er intet mindreenn en institusjon i norskjazz. Hennes intime, sjelfulletenorsaksofon fører arvenvidere fra giganter som Getz,Webster og Hawkins. MedNight Time tar Bodil etmusikalsk skritt videre. Dethar blitt et stemningsfulltalbum hvor Bodil vet åvelge sine fraseringer medomhu. Her er hennes vakreballader.

Balkansemblet fikk Spellemannprisen i 1985 foralbumet «Balkan Samlet». Etter to aktive tiår og toalbum tok bandet en lenger pause fra midt på 90-tallet. I 2005 gjenoppsto gruppa, og i dag består denav to medlemmer fra gamle «Balkansemblet» og trenye, kreative og talentfulle musikere. Balkansembletslipper et nytt album på EMCD i februar 2009.Balkansemblets første etappe var en slagsoppdagelsesreise til Balkan der musikk og kultur vari fokus. Det musikalske resultatet kan karakteriseressom «balkancoverlåter» og manifesterte seg i to album,«Balkan Samlet» og «Kvikk Sand», begge utgitt på«Hot Club Records». Bandet spilte konserter i Norgeog Skandinavia og deltok i en rekke TV- og radio-program. The Finlay MacDonald Band brings together thetightest of jazz and funk grooves, with blisteringtraditional and contemporary tunes.
