Keds X Kate Spade

A pair of Keds is as much of a closet necessity as the little black dress that can be worn anywhere, is unceasingly charming, and always elicits an “ooh. chic.” from friends. we’re almost always wearing a pair (when we’re not in our party heels, of course), whether sporting Keds with skinny jeans on the weekends or pairing them with a lady-like sun dress. and we’re not the only ones—the classic champion sneaker has been winning hearts since 1916.

To celebrate Kate Spade’s 20th anni-versary, as you saw in Wednesday’s the style spy, together we’ve embarked on a playful collaboration just in time for spring that merges the brand’s iconic canvas lace-ups with a few of our favor-ite prints and colors.

The swoon-worthy styles include gingham and polka dot versions of the champion, and pointers (a sleeker sneaker) in our favorite pink hue and in classic stripes. all come in special-ly-designed KSNY packaging for a finishing touch.

Each design embodies Kate Spade’s signature style which mixes bright colors with urban glamour. From the kitschy elegance of the “About Town”, featuring colorful sketches of quintessential NYC, to the gor-geous “West 4th Street” tableware with its bright hues and sentimental gold accents, we couldn’t agree more than these are definitely “Things WE Love” too!

Kate Spade has done it again! The brand, known for their brilliant marketing campaigns, has teamed up with Craig Redman, the artist behind the cartoon “Darcel Dissapoints”, to create a capsule collec-tion that combines the aesthetic of the two designers. It is is also a part of their ‘20th Anniversary Things we love!

‘Darcel’ is an egg-shaped, one-eyed, long-limbed black-and-white little guy living in a world of color. His blog chronicles his ‘highs and lows of life in a big city, for better or worse (usually worse)’. The graphic drawings are laugh-out-loud funny and each picture is worth a thousand words, as the illustrations really tell a story and are only enhanced the short caption underneath them.

The collection includes a bracelet bangle that looks like a donut; hot dog earrings; a fun, colorful printed top and dress, 90’s-inspired iron on patches, and a quirky charm bracelet, in addition to other appar-el, accessories, and fun little extras like stickers and nail decals.

Shanghai

37

In order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of kate spade, an exhibition was opened on april 29, 2013 at China, Shanghai’s prestigious Grand Gateway 66. Held for two weeks, the exhibition was inspired from all the things kate spade new york loves including the pop of color and the energy of Manhattan. Pink and gold were the two main colors that filled up the exhibition venue. The back ground also featured two timeline walls set against New York City’s skyline. Within the exhibition hall, an enlarged green shopping bag with the “things we love” bursting into the sky - including old school records, musical instruments and yellow taxi cabs. On the timeline wall, photo frames showcasing all the important milestones of the brand were featured – from the first nylon handbag, to live colorfully perfume, to accessories and tableware. “ 38

In New York itself, Kate Spade that are inspired on Big Apple, hotdogs and doughnats for the brand’s Fall 2013 collection, not-so coinciden-tally falling on its 20th anniversary. To celebrate the two events together, which took place in Center 548 in New York City. Andy Warhol’s Factory sex appeal and Studio 54’s “undone” glamour informed the collection’s mix of metallics and leopard prints, all with Kate Spade New York’s signature wit and whimsy. Complete with yellow taxi cabs in the backdrop, creative director Deborah Lloyd showcased slim trousers, flirty full skirts, and dresses doused in cheeky prints and cheery hues. Smart short suits; ladylike, jeweled-collar blouses; tweed jackets; and chic colorblocked coats tempered Lloyd’s vivacious mood, supplying her fans with fun workwear options. For the party crowd, Llyod’s glitter top and pleated flounce skirt are sure to turn heads at the next fashion soirée.

FOR OUR FALL 2013 COLLECTION

we turned to our hometown-new york city-for inspiration. In this crazy town, anything goes!

first, there’s the architecture of the city itself:the soaring skyscrapers and halls of academia that

make up the magnificent skyline; the chaos of the taxi cabs

The energy of Manhattan is equally as important. And for me nothing speaks to that more than Andy

Warhol’s factory and studio 54 in the ‘70s. I loveits leopard-print banquettes, and the thoughtof all the foxy glamorati dancing on its tables

into the early hours of the morning dressed in theirwispiest dresses, fur coats and well-placed sparkle.

it encapsulates the eternal appeal of party glamour.

this mix inspired our fall color palette of NYC citron, empire beige, asphalt, maraschino, shocking pink

and disco purple.

and to tell our story, we collaborated with thewitty artist Craig Redman, who loves NYC just as much

as we do. he’s created a girly version of hisquirky-cool one-eyed character, Darcel disappoints, perfectly capture the electricity of this wonderland

in which we live.

i can’t think of a better way of continuing the partyfor our twentieth year.

CHEERS!
