Johnson ~ Hotspot Letter from Kate, CYC
Things are changing rapidly and are evolving each day with COVID-19. It has been
an interesting few weeks, but I have been able to grow and learn from the
disruption. I appreciate everyone’s patience, grace, and understanding during this
time.
We are all experiencing new waters, some having more turbulence than others.
Each day I find that I am ever more grateful for this amazing 4-H community that I
get to be a part of. I want to thank YOU ALL for being you. For helping Johnson
County 4-H to stay strong and for being an amazing support system to one
another.
I have been getting a lot of questions about county fair. The office is moving ahead
with fair planning. I ask for patience and understanding as we navigate all of this.
As details are sorted out (pending guidance from the State Office/CDC/Governor
Reynolds) we will be in touch with families.
In a time of the unknown, there is a lot that we cannot control. But, we can control our attitude, our words, and our actions. I encourage families to reach out to each other and just check-in. Take a moment and thank a club or project leader for their help. Take this time to focus on your 4-H goals, finish a fair exhibit, or even begin your record book! I am looking forward to the day that I get to see so many of your smiling faces, give high fives and hugs AND that COVID-19 is in the past.
Take Care of yourselves: wash your hands, practice social distancing, and remember to check-in on one another.

JOHNSON COUNTY BRED RABBIT NOMINATIONS
DUE APRIL 20, 2020
We are continuing with having the Johnson County Bred Rabbit Class at the 2020 Johnson County Fair. The goal for this class is to encourage 4-H/FFA members to learn how to breed and raise their own rabbits. The rabbit for this class needs to be born between Jan. 23rd - April 14th– thus meeting the criteria for Jr. Class (under 6 months of age). The rabbit breeder is the owner of the rabbits at the time of breeding and birth of kits in Johnson County. 4-H/FFA members must certify by email or standard mail to Jeff Englert with the name of
buck and doe used in the breeding program, date bred, and the date and number of kits born in the litter to be eligible for the Johnson
County Jr. Bred Jr. Class Rabbit. All nominations must be turned in as soon as the litter is born. We will not be accepting late nominations after April 20, 2020.

we navigated premiums this year. The

opportunities for discussion and
collaboration with the Johnson County
Agriculture Association. Now that a
process is in place, our goal is to have
fair 2020 premiums out much sooner.
Please cash your check promptly. It
will be invalid in 6months. Checks will
not be re-issued.

STATE CONFERENCE
CANCELED
We regret to share that the Iowa
4-H Youth Conference scheduled
for June 30-July 2 is CANCELLED.
Both the State 4-H team and the
Extension Administration team
consulted on this topic and feel
that it is the appropriate
decision to make in light of
COVID-19.
This annual event that gathers
over 700 youth from across the
state must respect the health
and safety of all.

JUNIOR CAMP 2020
Jr Camp, as it has been in past years for Region 15, will not happen this year due to COVID-19 safety measures. The directive has been
sent from ISU/Extension/4-H that we cannot host any overnight camps this summer. Please know,
however, our Region 15 4-H staff LOVES this event, LOVES this connection with our 4-Hers, LOVES the outcomes of learning and growth that happen at 4-H Jr Camp and so we are NOT giving up hope. The team met and we are working out visions of what this might look like instead if/when the restraints and limits are lifted. Safety and health of our 4-Hers, families, volunteers, staff and community are always going to be at the forefront of decisions but please know we have a hope that a day camp format might be an option later in June.
ANIMAL TAG PICKUP
Due to COVID-19, all spring weigh-
ins and face to face events have
been canceled until
May 31st. The
animal ID deadline
of May 15th has
been pushed back
to June 1st by the
State 4-H office.
Due to the rapidly changing
circumstances surrounding social
distancing and travel, we are
currently working on a finalized plan
for animal tag pickup. A separate
email to all families will be sent by
the end of the week detailing pickup.
We appreciate your patience and
understanding during this
unprecedented time.
