Community Liaison News Applications open for Christmas Holiday Chook Monitor positions! It’s nearly holiday time again and our lovely chooks are looking for kind KPS families to look after them over the school holidays. If you can take on Chook Care for one week of the holidays, please contact Cate on 0487 899 469. You’ll get free eggs, time with our lovely chookies and a warm glow for helping the school! You might even get to enjoy some of our garden produce like these keen Garden Club kids feasting on strawberries.

Bush Classroom update #4 Greening Australia will be coming to school tomorrow and bringing 500 plants to plant with our kids in our new Bush Classroom, so if your young folk come home a little dirtier than usual it’s because the planting has started! Very exciting! This project is jointly funded through Katoomba Public School P&C and the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.

Youth Shoebox Project

Thank you so much to all the families who

donated goods and shoeboxes to the Youth

Shoebox Project.

KPS Band 2019

A note was sent home recently to students in Years 2 to 5 about School Band opportunities in 2019. Our band is

open to all stage 2 and 3 students, but students do need to be learning an instrument outside of band so they

have a basic understanding of music.

The School Band will rehearse every Thursday from 2pm until 2.55pm. Providing there is sufficient interest, our

new Band Director Jade Tinkler will be offering group tuition lessons for our students in Flute, Clarinet and

Saxophone. Flute will be 1.30pm - 2pm on Thursdays and Clarinet & Saxophone will be after school from 3 to

3.30pm. There will be a maximum of 6 in each group and students will need their own instrument to join these

lessons. Cost of general band tuition will be $5 per week, but group tuition and band tuition combined will be $20

per week.

If you would like to find out more information, Jade will be holding an information session on

MONDAY 10th DECEMBER at 9am in the Music Room here at KPS. She will also have a list of suppliers and

preferred brands for those who want to buy second hand.

Lost Property

Once again our lost property area is overflowing with clothing of all kinds. Some may be left over from swim school or camp,

as well as the usual jackets, jumpers, hats and lunchboxes. Please make sure you go through this area to claim anything that

is yours, as all goods will go to the clothing pool

or charity in the last week of school.

Thank you.

BMMF Update Firstly I wanted to say thank you to all the people who came along to the after-assembly meeting last Friday. We had a good turn out of people wanting to get more involved in the 2019 festival. In the meeting we went through how the festival works, how the KPS organising committee is involved, what volunteers do, vacancies and changes for 2019.

As most of you will know, the major change centres on the RSL site not being available due to ongoing construction work. Therefore we are moving things around to accommodate. The food and market stalls will now all be on the oval, there will be a new stage in the kitchen garden and additional venues have been confirmed (the Carrington, Palais Royale and the Baroque Room).

Other major questions at the meeting were about when you can sign up to be a volunteer (to secure your spot). Official applications start on the 1st January 2019 but rest assured, KPS parents, carers and friends get prioritised - just make sure that when you sign up on the online form: www.bmff.org.au you say you are connected to KPS. I’ll have more info about that next week.

If anyone would like to get more involved with the organising committee please email me on [email protected] and tell me what you’d like to do. We are always keen to have more KPS parents and carers involved and encourage people to nominate where their skills would be best used.

See you at pick up, Matt Leach (Edie & Frankie’s Dad)

2/3G and 4H had a wonderful excursion on Tuesday. We caught the train to Mount

Victoria to see the new Storm Boy film at Mount Vic Flicks. Both our classes had read the

book this year, and we all cried during this beautiful new adaptation of a classic book.

Thanks to Mt Vic Flicks for putting on this special pre-release screening for us!
