Welcome back to Term 2.
I want to start by saying “Thank you”. Thank you to our great community who have man-
aged to stay well over the last month and who have rallied around to support one another
through this difficult time of isolation.
It’s pretty safe to say the staff and myself are missing your children, we are missing the
routine that school brings to all of us. Our teachers are to be congratulated for their re-
markable dedication and commitment to the education, health and psychological wellbe-
ing of our KPS students under the most challenging circumstances since the outbreak of
the COVID-19 pandemic. The staff immediately adapted to remote learning through every
online, electronic and hard copy means available, ensuring that each student was able to
benefit from education continuity. This commitment continues now that term 2 has com-
menced.
Term 2 has started with two pupil free days. Giving our teachers time to plan for the term
ahead. For the first two weeks of term 2 schools will remain operational for students who
need to attend. Where practical, parents/carers are encouraged to continue learning from
home.
As many of you already know, to support the continuity of education for students and in-
crease face-to-face teaching, a staged return to school model will be rolled out starting in
Week 3 (Monday May 11th). Students learning either at home or in school will engage in a
single unit of work provided by their teachers. You will be contacted next week to let you
know which day your child will be allocated to come in to school.
Take care everyone... I am looking forward to the day we will all be back together again.

From the Principal
Going for walks (and noticing things I haven’t noticed before)
Spending time in the garden (and finding secret places)
Watching the leaves change colour (and collecting them and pressing them)
Reading books and drawing and playing and making art
Sleeping in (and staying up a little too late sometimes)

Things we’re loving right now……
“Our success as a
species has been
made possible by our
ability, particularly
when our vital
interests are
threatened, to
cooperate. At the
very heart of
cooperation is the
principle of taking
into account the
interests and welfare
of others. I am
therefore confident
that we humans will
once again find
ways, through
cooperation, to
overcome our
current challenges.”

Our Kitchen Garden mural is finished ... A huge thank you to MAN.De (Mandy Schöne-Salter) and the Katoomba RSL for our new Kitchen Garden
mural—it’s absolutely gorgeous!
Mandy designed and created the artwork that runs along the RSL wall that adjoins our Kitchen Garden
and has been working hard on it since mid-March. And now it’s all finished!
The Katoomba RSL generously paid for the mural—thank you, RSL for your lovely, neighbourly gesture! If
you’re walking past the school, have a peek through the fence and prepared to be amazed.

...And now we’re planning some more murals We were lucky enough to receive a Community Building Partnerships grant from the state
government to paint some more murals around the
school.
We will be inviting artists to submit Expressions of
Interest to paint a number of spaces around the
school very soon, but first we want to hear from
KPS Kids. What murals would you like to see
painted around the place … have a think about it
and let us know your ideas.
And so do the chooks
The chooks have been looking a little scruffy lately, what
with moulting season and all, but they’re being well
looked after by Ms Brown and Freya and Willow.
We’ll have to have make sure we give them some extra
special “chooky chocolate” when we all get back to school
to make up for all the snails they’ve missed. We’ll also
have to give them lots of extra hugs and attention too.
Teddy misses you all
